Wow! What a Wonderful Tahoe Christmas!

Thank you for the best Christmas! The house was so comfortable, spacious and well-appointed. What a treat it was to bake and prepare home-cooked food (GREAT Jenn-Air!) in the most amazing holiday ambiance ever! The owner kindly contacted us periodically to ensure that we were happy. The views approaching the lovely neighborhood are breathtaking. At the house, the views of the gorgeous forest (particularly from the hot tub!) are so majestic and peaceful. The snow has been beautiful -- skiing/boarding in conditions that were pretty much perfect. Powder galore even in the middle of the main runs. We were happily mobile thanks to the diligent street and driveway plowing in the neighborhood.Wish we were still there . . .

A perfect family home!

Our family reunion in this home was a lot of fun -- the house itself suited our needs perfectly. My daughter and her husband and three boys had the downstairs which worked out great for them since the boys had their own room and spread out their toys in their room, which had a tv and lots of kids movies. We enjoyed having the kitchenette down there as we were able to keep extra sodas and snack foods in the downstairs fridge. My daughter appreciated the full bathroom and the entrance coming in from the garage where the laundry is so they could all clean up easily after a day's play. All the adults enjoyed using the hot tub in the back on its private deck. The whole extended family had plenty of room to gather and cook and play games in the upstairs great room and my husband and I enjoyed having our private master suite with a sliding door to the deck. The kitchen was very nice, roomy and well stocked with kitchen appliances and cooking gear. We used the Jennair griddle for pancakes several times. We did not barbecue but we enjoyed sitting on the front deck and letting our swimsuits dry there in the sun. The Wi-Fi and cable tv worked great although we had so much fun being together and enjoying Tahoe that they were secondary. We took many hikes on the beautiful trails just up the street. Oh and we took advantage of the private beach access several times -- a very cool place to hang out and enjoy the lake. The house was convenient to Tahoe City and all the West Shore activities. All in all, we have nothing but good memories - thank you!

Perfect for a family getaway

Our extended family was looking for a place for a long overdue reunion and this property was in a great location with plenty of space for everyone and the dogs. The trails out behind the property were easy to access from the end of the road for walks, the hot tub was perfect for après-skiing, and the kids even got to play in the previous reviewer's snow forts! Be aware that the road is steep so if you're visiting in the winter with the potential for bad weather, be sure to plan ahead; our rental car did not come with chains and we would have had a hard time had the roads been bad. That being said, the elevation makes for great lake views on the way up! Peter was very responsive; the check in process was simple and he addressed all our questions quickly. He even noticed one family member left their iPad behind and caught us before we all left town to arrange its return. We had a great time, thank you!

Great cabin, plenty of space

We had a wonderful vacation, felt like home. Tahoe got the biggest snow storm in 50 years and we spent a lot of time around the cabin. Great fun just by the cabin, sledding, playing with the icicles, even building snow forts in the back. Thanks for accommodating!!

Great host

Peter was very communicative and responsive during our stay. The house was comfortable and perfect for our family and dog. The best part was the hiking trail access right from the end of the street!

Great property at the top of the hill. Perfect for a family getaway

Brought 4 generations of my family to this cabin and it was a blast! Plenty of beds and lots of space. We loved the hot tub and living room area was great for puzzles and board games. The internet and cell service were very spotty which we found as a treat to be able to unplug and spend time together without too much technology!

Beautiful settings, close to nature, but...

I don't like to write reviews, especially bad ones. But I think it is my duty to inform you about what happened to us. We set out to Lake Tahoe very early, we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us. We were very happy to be able to go there. Upon our arrival, the location took our breath away. It is only fair to say that everything in the house was functional and instructions were clear but as we tried to cook dinner, we started to notice some disturbing signs of an ill-kept house. One of the cabinet doors was broken. The cook-top was thick with grease, the (cleaned) dishes still in the dish washer, the one kitchen towel wasn't white anymore, but brown, all the pot holders were disgusting with food crumbs and grease, the coffee machine had old ground coffee in it and on top of that the queen bed downstairs wasn't made. The next day under daylight we had more disappointments: the carpet was full of dog hair; and on the side of the day bed in the upstairs bedroom, the large amount of dirt and trash had been clearly accumulating for months. We contacted the owner right away, he apologized and said that he would call the cleaners the next day. Nobody came the next day or the day after that. We decided to clean the house ourselves. I washed one of the comforters myself and it changed color- from beige and blue to white and blue. Just because the host puts some travel size shampoo and soap in the bathrooms, it doesn't mean that their house is ready to receive paying guests, and this house was far from ready for our arrival. Two stars only because the location is amazing.

Blue Roof Retreat

We had a wonderful labor day wedding weekend at the Blue Roof Retreat! The cabin was just right for our family with matched combination of beds, nice quiet location, and a good hang-out kitchen, dining, and living great room. The arrival instructions were clear and we appreciated the "barker" alarm which was easy to switch off inside. Everything was clean, well stocked, and "hotel-ready" for our stay. Out back, just a few steps from the cabin in the woods, is the Jacuzzi. My family and I really enjoyed that feature and eased our hiking bones. We also enjoyed access to the private beach on Lake Tahoe by Sunnyside Resort. We look forward to coming back to the Blue Roof Retreat next year! Joan San Francisco September 7, 2017

Amazing, large house backing up to forest land - a favorite year after year

We've rented this house 5 times over the past 7-8 years for extended family gatherings. The size and location are absolutely perfect. The layout allows different congregation points for people to visit - a spacious deck with a mix of sun and shade (and a grill!), a large family/kitchen/living area, and a downstairs bunkbed area for the kids to have their own space. The 5 bedrooms are spread between upper level and lower level so you can get some space from each other. Well-equiped kitchen makes it easy to cook for a large group. We love the hot tub out back with the sweet smell of the ponderosa pines all around. And the kids love having space to roam out back in the forest (just the right amount of maintenance so there isn't a ton of underbrush.) Location - love that this is up the hill from the lake so you can feel completely separated from the hustle and bustle on the lakeside, but you can take advantage of the HOA beach right down the hill. I'm a runner and love the extensive trails right out the back door that run all through Page Meadows. Some of my best memories are going for an early morning run through the meadows with wildflowers, grasshoppers and sunshine and then returning to the sundrenched deck to eat a big breakfast (prepped by another family member). We've rented a number of places around Tahoe in the past 15 years, but this is the only house we've returned to over and over again. Highly recommend

Lacking in some basic rental accommodations

Great area on the lake. We have been renting in Tahoe for 25 + summers. Although this area on the lake is a favorite of ours, this home needed some attention before we arrived. The owner emailed me just prior to our trip that the oven wasn't working. This was a major inconvenience at almost every meal! We were a party of 3 families making meals for 4 days!! When we arrived the carpet throughout the home was very dirty. One family found the vacuum and cleaned up. The hot tub was also half full, dirty and cold. There were no trash bags in the kitchen. There was no toilet paper in one bathroom and very little in the other two. I contacted Peter immediately after our trip to give him some feedback on our stay. He was receptive and agreed we should be reimbursed a portion of our fees. He said he would be in contact and hopefully be able to reimburse us after contacting his cleaning and tub maintenance people. He never got back to me. While we had a wonderful vacation and Peter's home was in a beautiful area, I could not recommend this rental to others.
