About this property

Unassuming Sophistication Meets Cozy Oasis

Welcome to your newly renovated, Mendocino retreat! Nestled amidst the redwoods and surrounded by gardens, this home has all you need for a perfect holiday! Try the outdoor shower; soak in the hot tub; or enjoy your favorite book while gently swaying in the hammock, all while enjoying the sounds of - well- a whole lot of nothing. And when you are ready to explore the area, you will find beaches, Mendocino’s rugged headlands and the village of Mendocino all within a five minute drive.
The space
This almost 1700 sq ft home has recently been remodeled throughout with comfortable, modern decor and accented with art created by local artists. No detail has been missed. From the extra large, plush bath towels, to the kitchen stocked with enough pots, pans, spices and gadgets to delight even the most discriminating home chef, you will find quality throughout. Mix and match 5 colors of FiestaWare to create a table as unique and fun as you! King sized beds in both bedrooms are made with 100% bamboo bedding and fluffy duvets to provide a perfect night's sleep. A queen sized Murphy bed in the nook in the living room masquerades as a cabinet by day, and effortlessly converts to a surprisingly comfy bed by night!

The home lies just above what is locally referred to as “the fog line.” This means that this little oasis, while just 5 minutes from the beach, is oftentimes sunny, and 5-10 degrees warmer than in the village or the beach.

During your days here, relax on the Adirondack chairs next to a lovely pond as it dances and sings just for you! Search for berries or pick a bouquet of flowers from the abundance of plant life on the property. If games are your thing, challenge your travel mate to a rousing game of ping-pong, piece together a puzzle or play any of a number of board games provided.

BBQ your favorite meal (there are two BBQs for your use - a gas grill and a Weber for those who prefer to go “old school,”) or whip up something delicious in the updated gourmet kitchen. Then, gather around the table with your family and friends, open a local bottle of wine and enjoy the joyful serenity that comes when good food and good company are paired. End your day with a peaceful soak in the hot tub, or cozy up by the fire with a good book or pick a movie from scores of DVDs or peruse the cable TV offerings.

When you are ready to explore the area, there is oh-so-much to do. The picturesque village of Mendocino with its unique shops and truly fabulous restaurants are a short 5 minute drive down the hill. Big River Beach is 6 minutes from the house (and an excellent beach to run Fido, should you bring your furry friend). For hikers, trails abound—just pick one suitable to your skill level from novice to expert. If you are looking for opportunities to experience the rugged beauty that is the Nor Cal Coast, you are in luck! Access to the Mendocino Headlands is 5 minutes from the house with its miles of easily walkable trails revealing breathtaking views of the Pacific.

Enjoy a round of golf two miles south at the Little River Inn, or travel inland to Anderson Valley to taste some delicious wines from 30+ wineries along Highway 128, including some wonderful Pinots and Sparkling wines.
For our beer drinking friends, Anderson Valley Brewing Company in Boonville offers some fabulous microbrews!

Ft . Bragg, (the “big” town in the neighborhood,) is 15 minutes north, where you can visit the Botanical Gardens, the world-famous glass beach, or take a ride on the Skunk Train. We could go on, but suffice it to say, the list of activities in the area is seemingly endless.

TESLA CHARGER: For those guests with Teslas, the property has a Tesla charger for your use.

PET POLICY: Please note that well behaved dogs are permitted for a $100 per stay charge, on the condition that you do not leave your pet alone in the house. We will provide your furry friend with a Pooch Kit for your stay that includes a dog bed, leash, and poop bags. Because the home is in an unincorporated area with a variety of animal life, (including mountain lions and black bears,) for your pet’s safety, we do ask that you keep your dog on leash while outside.
Guest access
Guests have unfettered access to the entire 1 1/3 acres with the exception of the barn and potting shed, which, due to structural issues, we ask guests to avoid
Other things to note
Well behaved, house trained dogs are permitted for an additional fee of $100 per STAY (not per night). You MUST include your request to bring your dog when booking. If you fail to do so, you will forfeit your deposit.

We have a strict “no parties” policy. (This is our home. We actually use it. We think it’s a pretty cool place to hang out, and we’d like to keep it that way.). If you would like to host a small gathering (I.e. another family not included in your reservation) please seek prior authorization. In all likelihood, we will provide that authorization. But should you fail to seek authorization prior to hosting a small gathering, you will forfeit your deposit.

Please note that housekeepers on the North Coast are extremely hard to find. To assure that your vacation home is pristine, 100% of the cleaning fee you pay goes directly to our housekeepers.

It's a great place!
Julie and Alan hosted my sister (from Honolulu) and me (Richmond CA) for 5 days in December. We were joined for conversation and meals by my niece (Seattle) and her well-behaved dog, who were staying nearby. It was a wonderful, relaxing mini-reunion made possible by Alan and Julie’s beautiful home. Julie and Alan are very relaxed and kind hosts. Their attention to detail is thorough – I really appreciated the labels and instructions there to guide us (I was a software engineer, and I value documentation!). They have a beautiful, spacious house in a beautiful setting, with views of the pines, even through the skylights. The house is full of modern conveniences, comfortable decor and creature comforts (foot warmers under the sinks!). The kitchen has everything for cooking a holiday meal. The house is also really dog-friendly. They even decorated the house for us, complete with a Christmas tree. Julie and Alan, I thank you for your hospitality, and our dog thanks yours for sharing his space! Kevin M. Dec 30 2023

Inviting Mendo Getaway
This property is well worth the visit! I might say eclectic even in a good way. You can see a lot of thought went into making this home fun, comfortable, and inviting. So many well though out touches. Have to mention the Halloween decorations, over the top and classy! Great location, just a couple minutes to town. Could be a gathering spot for families or a cozy stay for couples.

So peaceful
The gorgeous property is in such a quiet, peaceful spot. I’ve never seen my high-anxiety rescue dog so relaxed! It’s a short drive to town of Mendocino and lovely walks on the bluffs. I thought I’d miss having ocean views from the rental property, but the gardens and towering redwoods were just spectacular!
