About this property
Forest House 15 ppl. Alsace – Immersive veranda, swimming pool, sauna, fitness
A former forest house dating back to 1875, this charming property, which predates the French Revolution, is located in the privileged environment of the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park, a UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve.
Here, nature reigns supreme. The elusive lynx, deer crossing at dawn, curious foxes, nocturnal badgers... you are not quite at home. And it is precisely this humility in the face of nature that makes a stay in this place so special.
Nestled in a wooded clearing of about 1 hectare at the foot of the Grand Wintersberg, the highest point of the Northern Vosges mountains, the former Buchwald forest house, named after the beech forest that surrounds it, is located at the crossroads of countless hiking trails, including the historic and pioneering GR53 trail that runs alongside it.
As soon as you cross the threshold, the exceptional volumes of this 650 m² house envelop you in an atmosphere that is both majestic and soothing. The entrance hall with its cathedral ceiling houses a period Kachelofe stove. It leads to a separate kitchen and a first reception area, consisting of a small lounge and a dining room, all embellished with a stone fireplace, wood panelling and beams reminiscent of the illustrious -Alsatian Stub-.
A second kitchen with its bar, authentic bread oven and rotisserie fireplace opens onto a large veranda. The centrepiece of the house, with its triple exposure and numerous windows, it gives the feeling of being an integral part of the surrounding forest.
To complete this garden level, designed as a true cocoon, with its large terrace for summer barbecues, a wellness area awaits you: a heated indoor swimming pool, a light wood sauna, and a small, discreet gym opening onto the inner courtyard.
A hallway, a pantry, a laundry room and a cloakroom with direct access to the outside complete this level.
The eight bedrooms, most of which have en-suite bathrooms, are spread over the two floors of the two buildings and are tastefully furnished and decorated.
For other moments of relaxation, the veranda and its fireplace await you for a game of billiards by the fire. Or, nestled under exposed beams, a mezzanine with its custom-built bookcase welcomes you for a moment of suspended reading.
The Northern Vosges are an exceptional region: a horizon of beech, oak and Scots pine forests, home to remarkable biodiversity; thousands of kilometres of marked hiking trails, nearly 40 medieval castles and ruins perched on pink sandstone spurs, spectacular rocks, secret valleys and magnificent views of a landscape where man and nature have been in dialogue for centuries.
At Buchwald, you don't come to fill the space with noise, music or loud laughter. You come to slow down, listen, observe and breathe. You come to seek the deep serenity that only powerful, protected nature can offer.
Forest. Comfort. Tranquillity. Welcome to Buchwald
