About this property

Rio Vista at Lightning Bug Springs

If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of big city Rio Vista at Lightning Bug Springs is the perfect destination; 15 acres of beautiful property nestled along the banks of the Dry Frio. Don't let the name "Dry" fool you, though. There is a large swimming hole just steps away. The property offers a swimming pool, hiking trails, a large fire pit, volleyball net, outdoor pavilion, tire swings, horse shoes, soccer goals and large shade trees for enjoying nature. In the evening watch the sun set while the deer graze in the field.
Rio Vista offers 3 bedrooms; 1 king, 1 Double & 2 Bunkbeds and 2 full bathrooms. It has a fully equipped kitchen with a full size refrigerator, range top oven, microwave, dishwasher and coffee pot. It has a living room with two couches and two chairs. The dining area has a large dining table for 6.
The home has central air & heat, washer & dryer and satellite TV.
We want our guest to enjoy their stay worry-free so we provide bed linens and towels which is a rarity in Concan.

Rio Vista is far enough from the noise of the main river to experience a peaceful retreat, but just minutes from Concan and its quaint restaurants, quirky shops or to float the Frio.

Experience Hill Country at its best
We loved loved the location. Waking up to the sight of mountains, tranquil river and birds chirping from the hundreds of trees - we had a wonderful stay at Lightining Bug Springs. We stayed in the Rio Vista cabin in the spring season and it was rustic, cute, comfortable and has superb views of hills & river. The kids loved to play on the deck, climb trees, eat meals, paint rocks, collect wildflowers and splash in the river below - it was an amazing experience for everyone. When we were driving to the cabin, we thought its too remote and were skeptical, but once we entered the property, we saw the beauty of this place. Also, its one of the rare places in Concan/Uvalde where the owners provide you with linens and towels and kitchenware. The owner Dena was very responsive and also accommodated our change of plans last minute. We had a leisurely trip which is exactly wat we needed to escape the busy city life. We spent a day at Garner State park (really lovely during spring with fresh water in the Frio river and colorful wildflowers bursting everywhere), went for Frio Bat Cave tour and saw millions of bat zooming out at dusk, drove through misty hills to Lost Maples natural park and explored small town Concan with country music and cute cafes. This was one of the best places we have stayed in, little expensive given the remote location but totally worth it! Hope to come back in the Fall season.

Good option for near Garner
We stayed here for access to Garner. The location was amazing, the back porch was a dream, and the accommodations were good. Only cons we found: 1)Finding this particular house in the complex at night when we arrived was difficult. Would advise a little hand drawn map or something on the arrival instructions since this one is down a path and hard to see. 2)Parking seems limited. The only place to park for this unit is by the bunkhouses, which were empty while we were there but had someone been in them that drove I think this would have been an issue. 3)If you are taller than about 5ft you will have to squat to shower. My brother and I are 5'5" and 5'510" each and the shower head was below our faces, my poor 6'8" husband REALLY struggled since the shower stall was also compact width/length wise. Overall enjoyed our stay. Would probably try the log cabin looking unit next time.

Hi, we are Mike & Dena Krailo

Lightning Bug Springs holds a very special place in our hearts as we watched our children grow up here, splashing in the river, dancing the night away under the pavilion or playing games with all of their friends in the bunkhouse. Our children are grown but the memories last forever.

When we were given the opportunity to manage Lightning Bug we were beyond excited. We want to watch other families make memories here too.

We hope you love Lightning Bug Springs as much as we do and will continue to come back year after year.
