Retirement Dream

Thank you Ludovica for everything. My guests and I had a wonderful time at your house. We were all pleased with the location. There was just a short bus ride to Sorrento and from there we could go anywhere we wanted. Ludovica was extremely helpful even giving us a ride to Sorrento to catch the train to Sorrento on our last day. The housekeeper was amazing. She came in on Saturdays and cleaned, changed all of the linens, etc. The whole stay was exceptional Verna

Highly recommended for experience truly Italy

We were two families with two kids each. One family stayed in the main home and one in the rooms upstairs. Each bedroom had its own bathroom and a view to the sea. We very much enjoyed the hospitality of Ludovica, the olive and lemon trees, the lovely terrace for our meals outside. Massa Lubrense is a nice small town in short walking distance with only a few tourists and all shops you need for daily shopping as well as restaurants. We had a stunning day going around the island of capri by private boat which was chartered for us perfectly by Ludovica. We made day eccursions to Pompeji, the Vesuvio, Erculano, Positano, Praiano, Amalfi and Ravello. On the hold we had six wonderful days enjoying the charming and wonderful costiera amalfitana and the gulf of naples.

beautiful spot

We stayed at Ludovica's property for a three-generation family vacation. The space was well equipped and beautifully appointed, especially the lovely terrace which we enjoyed in the mornings and the evenings when the temperatures were cool enough to sit there. We appreciated the fact that each of the bedrooms had its own bathroom—very useful for a group of this size. The location is handy for visiting other spots on the Gulf of Naples, though without a car (because we were such a large group) we were reliant on the sometimes rather costly but admirably efficient local taxi company to get us around. There was a wonderful swimming spot off the rocks at Marina della Lobra which was a 15-20 minutes walk away down and up a very steep path—not suitable for the infirm or out of shape. Ludovica was very helpful before our arrival and during our stay; we especially appreciated her recommendation of the restaurant Da Michele in Marina della Lobra. We were delighted to discover this part of Italy and look forward to visiting the area again.

A wonderful week in Massa Lubrense!

We had such a wonderful time staying at this renovated and lovely farm house. Ludovica was most hospitable and our accommodations were perfect for our family. There is one bedroom suite down stairs next to the living room and kitchen. The second bedroom is up the stairs. The third and fourth bedrooms are up the outside stairs and both have their own bathrooms. There are lovely views from all of the windows of the Sea further out. Its a short walk in to town on a narrow curvy road (which is typical for this area). There are a couple of grocery stores and several restaurants that we ate at in town. We also explored several areas to sunbathe and swim in the glorious Mediterranean Sea. I would suggest renting a small car so as to be able to drive up the steep and narrow road to the house. Otherwise you must park down below and walk up. Everywhere you go in this hilly part of the country will be walking up fairly steep roads and stairs, so it was not a problem for us. This area is less touristy than many of the surrounding cities and we really enjoyed less crowds. Highly recommended area for exploring and hiking.

Amazing View

Ludovica’s property is located on a hill overlooking the ocean and the small town of Massa Lubrense. It has great views of Capri and ocean views from all the rooms of her property. The property was in walking distance of restaurants, bars, and markets. Ludovica was a great host, and booked us tours of Capri and arranged a private driver to Positano. Could not be more pleased with our stay with Ludovica!

Beautiful villa provides respite in a gorgeous location

Our two families enjoyed the beautiful villa at Massa Lubrense. The views of the Bay of Naples are stunning from the patio, and there was plenty of room for all, with four bedrooms and four baths, and a kitchen that provided all that we needed for cooking. We enjoyed the short walk to the village shops for groceries, and we also had some great meals in the local restaurants, based on recommendations from Ludovica. She was a great hostess, and very responsive to any needs. She gave us recommendations for sight-seeing, shopping, and even called a friend to ensure that we would have parking when we visited Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Massa Lubrense provides a respite from tourists and the traffic flows of Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. We loved this place and hope to return!

Beautiful villa in a stunning situation

A lovely old property in a stunning situation, in an area which has the great advantage of being somewhat off the beaten tourist track. The villa offers plenty of spacious and comfortable accommodation, although it's worth noting that there are a lot of steep steps to negotiate. There are bars and great restaurants within walking distance, and also the facilities to eat at the villa in beautiful surroundings.

Incredibly Charming Villa/Farm House

My husband and I rented Ludivica’s 4 bedroom villa for one month. We had family and friends visit us through out the month. It was a vacation of a life time. The living room was relaxing and comfortable for eight of us to have dinner and play games in the evening. The kitchen had all the amenities we needed to make meals when necessary. Each bedroom was spacious and had a full bathroom. There was a view of the water from each bedroom which allowed for spectacular sunsets of the Bay of Naples. The patio was perfect for the occasional aperitif in the early evening before dinner as the sun set. Its location in MasseLubrense allowed us to walk into town, the marina, and foot paths around the area. From town, we could catch the city bus and get to Sorrento. From Sorrento, we could get a bus or train to go to all the wonderful sites in the region. Ludovica was the perfect hostess. She was helpful and available whenever we needed her. We will definitely return to her villa for another vacation.

beautiful place to stay

We spent one week at Ludovica's house with 2 children and 4 grand parents. The house is very well equipped, everyone found its place. The view is amazing, the lemons are delicious. Ludovica arranged a boat trip to Capri which will be one of our best memories in Italy. Thank you for your hospitality.

Absolutely Perfect!

An absolutely perfect location and experience! Ludovica is a gracious host and extremely kind. The villa is short walk from the Massa Lubrensa town square which has bus service to Sorrento. There are fantastic restaurants all within walking distance. Ludovica was kind enough to assist in arranging a boat ride to Capri. It is truly a wonderful Italian experience which I cannot recommend highly enough. We had a group of 8 people, and we stayed comfortably in the villa. Many Thanks!

a beautiful piece of paradise

I traveled to Italy for the first time with 3 other women. We had a beautiful experience. Ludovica was truly everything that the other guests has described. I miss her and her beautiful villa. We had a private boat tour of Capri arranged by Ludovica, a private tour of the Amalfi coast arranged by Ludovica, day trips to Sorrento and Pompeii. It was magical. I will go back. I have never taken the time do one of these reviews before but this was truly special and I want to encourage others to stay here. You will not regret it.

Amazing Trip...Wonderful Ludovica!

Our "sisters" trip to he Amalfi Coast was amazing and it all began with Ludovica! From the moment we arrived to the day we left, Ludovica was the perfect hostess with wonderful recommendations and arrangements for day excursions. From the private chartered boat to Capri, bus ride to Sorrento, private tour of Amalfi Coast, and hydrofoil to Capri, every day trip was spectacular. Equally as amazing was spending time at the beautiful villa surrounded by lemon trees and gorgeous gardens. Ludovica graciously shared her kitchen garden with us and the time we shared cooking, having dinner and enjoying glasses of wine made our trip most memorable. Enjoying the Italian life at Ludovica's villa was a trip of a lifetime! Thank you Ludovica, my new Italian friend!

Enchanting!

We had a wonderful experience at Ludovica's villa. My mother-in-law and 18-year-old son each had their own room and bathroom upstairs, and my husband and I enjoyed our privacy in the main home downstairs. All of the bedrooms have beautiful ocean views. The style is comfortably elegant and charming - just like Ludovica. She is delightful and helped to make our experience a dream come true. We enjoyed all of it - the amazing food at the restaurant Ludovica recommended, the shopping in Sorrento, the boat ride to Capri, Positano and Almalfi, and the relaxation on the large, cozy couches in the livingroom. Thank you Ludovica! I am now reliving each glorious day looking at my pictures!

Our family holiday at Ludovica's will remain in our memories as our favourite family vacation

We were welcomed by Ludovica in her villa and we felt right at home immediately. The central apartment is private and beautifully decorated and the one upstairs where our adult children stayed was charming and gave them the privacy they needed. We had 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in this renovated spacious old home that is so tastefully presented. The terrace overlooking the ocean had stunning sunsets. The lemon and olive trees are right by the terrace with a huge table for our meals. Ludovica took us to her green grocer, suggested wonderful restaurants and pointed us to the sights to see. The pets became our friends and everyone enjoyed the week we spent in Massa Lubrense, a quiet town not overrun by tourists. We visited Pompei, Herculanum, Sorrento and even survived driving the Amalfi Coast all the way to Ravello. The boat Ludovica chartered for us gave us a full day to the island of Capri. The Marina del Cantone beach is a local beach where italian families happily spend time away from the tourist traps. Our hostess was warm, welcoming, charming and we miss her a lot. We hope to come back and soak up the warmth and hospitality we found in Massa Lubrense!

10 wonderful days at Massa Lubrense

We spent 10 wonderful days at this place. The house is spacious with two units of 2 rooms (4 bathrooms). There is wonderful view to the sea from the windows. Our favorite spot was the court, also overlooking the see and enjoying the breeze. It is within a short walking distance from the center of Massa Lubrense, with its coffee bars and grocery stores – as well as other facilities such as tourist information, bank, etc. The house is also ideally situated for daily excursions to the Naples area (Pompei, Herculanum) and to the Amalfi Coast (Sorrento, Amalfi, Salerno) – all within approximately one-hour drive or so. Ludovica, the owner, was extremely nice and helpful – with recommendations of places to visit, restaurants, etc. The house itself was spotlessly clean, and we found the description on the website very accurate. The only issue one should mind is the parking. The climb to the house is about 60 meters in a steep narrow alley with stone walls on both sides. We parked on the road below and climbed on foot. If coming with a rental car, automatic transmission is highly recommended.

A Most Perfect Villa with a Fabulous Host

My family recently spent 2-weeks in Italy, including 7-days here at Massa Lubrense. It was the highlight of our trip. Not only is the home incredibly charming, it's owner, "Vicky" is an amazingly warm and elegant hostess. Vicky took great care of us. When we arrived she had milk in the refrigerator and cookies for the children. She provided great support by sharing great recommendations and helping us with reservations for restaurants, car services and private boat rentals. She even shared the whereabouts of secluded beaches away from the crowded shores. The home was perfect. It is exactly what you think of as a dream Amalfi villa. Although it dates to the 17th century, the interior of the home is modern, bright and amazingly clean. The photos and descriptions included here cannot testify to the beauty of this place. The views are breathtaking and the air is brimming with the sweet scents of the gardens and orchards. After our days at the beach and sightseeing, it was a welcome relief to have Vicky's home to come back too. We made easy excursions to Sorrento, Positano, Marina del Cantone and Capri. The villa sits above Massa Lubrense, a small Italian village with great cafes and shops, but with none of the tourist trap stores or tourist hordes. After seven days venturing through town we got to know some of the shopkeepers and baristas. It felt like we belonged here. Our family highly recommends this property. We miss it and we, especially miss our hostess, Vicky.

Excellent Family Retreat

I highly recommend this property as a charming base for exploring the Sorrento peninsula, Naples, and environs. Six family members -- two couples and two singles -- stayed here very comfortably for more than a week. The listing description was entirely accurate, and the friendly English-speaking owner (who lives in one of the two adjoining houses) was most helpful in answering questions and making sightseeing suggestions. The Sorrento peninsula is generally very vertical, and this location is no exception. The steep side road up to the house (a driveway really, about 50 yards long) is daunting, especially after a heavy meal, but it should not discourage anyone with normal walking abilities. Two of our party were in their early 70s and, though winded, had no difficulties. The reward at the top is a charming, well maintained, functional house set among lemon and olive groves. The broad terrace facing the sea has a beautiful view over the town of Massalubrense and the sea beyond to Ischia. Inside, lofty barrel-vaulted rooms formerly used for pressing grapes have been cleverly renovated into spacious and tastefully decorated living spaces. We cooked several dinners in the fully equipped kitchen and had a choice where to enjoy them -- there are dining tables and chairs for six both inside and on the terrace. The washing machine is small and takes forever but is easy to use. The internet connection is excellent. If you have a car, I recommend parking on the main road at the foot of the driveway and walking up to the house. There is parking at the top, but the driveway is very narrow and is lined the entire distance with unforgiving stone walls. The property is well located for sightseeing all over the Sorrento peninsula and vicinity, either by car or public transportation. The main square of Massalubrense town is no more than 8-12 minutes away on foot. From there, the bus takes you to Sorrento (20-25 minutes), the starting point for the Circumvesuviana, the commuter train to Naples (about 70 minutes), which makes stops at Pompeii, Herculaneum, and elsewhere along the way. In the other direction, Positano, Amalfi, etc. are also easily accessible by car or bus.

Tranquil Italian Charm

25 years ago my husband and I were stationed near Naples with the US Navy. This trip was planned to show our 3 children (ages 24 and 19 year old twins) and our oldest son's girlfriend, the beautiful Southern Italy we so fondly remembered. This villa could not have been more perfect as our home base for 6 nights. The lovely terrace overlooking the sea afforded us gorgeous sunsets every evening, and a tranquil spot to enjoy a morning coffee and plan our day. We loved the charm of this villa, surrounded by lemon and olive groves, cascading bougainville and fragrant jasmine. The bedrooms and baths were spread out nicely on 2 levels allowing for privacy and restful sleeps for our group of 6. The living area was spacious and comfortable for evening chats and board games. I miss waking up to the sounds of the church bells in the village below! It was an easy walk into the sweet, friendly town of Massa Lubrense for cappuccino or groceries. We took day trips to Pompeii, Capri, Positano and Sorrento in our rental car and discovered some fun lesser known spots such as the accessible only by foot or boat fishing town of Crappola. Overall, a very memorable trip for our family and staying at this villa was one of the highlights. Thank you Ludovica!!

Beautiful home in a lovely place

I have to join all of the other glowing reviews to say that Ludovica is wonderful, and her home is simply lovely. I think my favorite moment of our trip to Italy was sitting on her beautifully landscaped flagstone patio, sipping my morning coffee and looking out over the misty blue Mediterranean Sea. Her house had all we needed, including comfortable beds and quality linens and towels. The rooms in the house are spacious and airy, and the bathrooms are modern and nice (with one for each bedroom). The old cobbled road leading up to the house winds narrowly between high stone walls, as has been noted before, so we had to leave our large touring van down on the road and hike up the hill (though Ludovica was kind enough to drive our cases up for us). We certainly felt like it was worth it—just walking up the road made you feel like you were going back in time. And it is a very brief walk into the center of Massa Lubrense, so it is easy to pick up groceries and fresh bread, or walk to dinner. We paid extra for access to the internet, and it was fast and solid. Ludovica was a gracious hostess, who helped us understand the local busses and trains (we took public transportation to Pompeii, rather than drive back out along the narrow coastal roads), and recommended nice restaurants (we especially enjoyed El Torre’, in a nearby village…maybe it was the free coffee and limoncello they gave us at the end of our meal!). As others have mentioned, she helped us book a boat to take us on a day trip to Capri, and we loved that whole experience. We highly recommend this lovely home, and would come back in a heartbeat.

Perfect in every way!

My husband and I (from the USA) and my cousin (from England) spent 4 glorious days staying at this beautiful rental. It is spacious, fully equipped and so very tastefully decorated. It is a gorgeous old building, but the interior has been carefully modernized to provide all the comforts that one could wish for, without losing any of the old world charm.. Ludovica herself, is the most charming hostess, and she made us feel very welcome. On our arrival, she picked fresh lemons from her trees for us, and presented us with some lovely home grown roses. We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings sitting on the lovely patio, with a sumptuous feast of local wine, tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, basil and Ludovica's own olive oil.She also efficiently arranged a delightful young man to escort the 3 of us by car for a day to the Amalfi coast. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. On another day, Ludovica organized a private charter boat to take us to Capri - this is a must if you are staying in Massalubrense. The local shops were all that we needed, and the people in the village were charming and tolerant of we Americans with limited Italian. Ludovica has my email, and I would be happy to be contacted by any prospective renters. Ciao 'Vicky', and thank you!
