Wonderful stay in the cottage on a beautiful farm with very gracious hosts, Chris and Rachael. We received a warm welcome and tour of the house and farm upon arrival. The house was clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed (sheets, coffee, towels). They brought us rods to fish. The cats and animals were a nightlight with the kid. Lovely to wake up each day and walk around the farm. Highlight was staying for the Thursday dinner. Thank you so much!

Delightful Relaxing Stay

We had the most wonderful time! We arrived during the Thursday dinner and could drop our bags off and walk over for dinner and drinks. We then relaxed outside watching fireflies. My two boys were excited to see the animals and had a wonderful time feeding them and petting them. The house is so charming and exactly the right size. We will definitely be back!

Picture Perfect

The cottage was absolutely perfect down to every last detail. It's appropriately furnished in what I would call upscale farmhouse style. Everything is done with good taste, creativity and style. It's new and clean, with every amenity you can think of provided to you.

We loved Locavore!

We enjoyed the cottage for two perfect days and nights on Mother's Day weekend with the bonus of a farm-to-table dinner and lovely music in the pasture under a beautiful clear sky. There is magic happening on this idyllic family farm: 1. Sunset began with a golden glow and lasted a full three hours. I credit the 360-degree horizon and big sky. 2. Were the roosters respectful with crowing times or were we oblivious to their crows because we were having the purest sleep? 3. Breakfast was harvested all within fifty feet of our door; eggs from the chicken coop and spinach, tarragon and green garlic from the garden. All six of us ate at table together with the front door open to the view of sunshine on the golden pasture. All was made possible by a delightful, welcoming host family and their charming farmyard animals. We wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Locavore Farm to enjoy the company of the human, donkey, cow, pig, chicken, sheep, doggie and kitty residents, and to be inspired by an education on regenerative farming and permaculture food production. Visit, relax, slow down, and feel true peaceful connection.

My mom and 2 boys under the age of 5 stayed for 2 nights. The boys had so much fun with the farm animals and exploring the property. Rachael made our stay extra special with a greeting package at the cottage with 2 kids fishing poles. We caught a handful of bluegill in the pond which added to the excitement. We checked in before Thursday night hang / dinner and the food was amazing. The cottage was recently renovated and it’s absolutely perfect. Would totally recommend and we will definitely be back!

Thank you so much for your kind review. I’m so happy you all had such a wonderful time. Watching you soak in the farm — resting in the simplicity of it all, walking, fishing, petting kittens, and simply sitting awhile — was such a beautiful reminder that living intentionally connected to nature really is one of the secrets to slowing down and reviving the heart. Your boys won’t forget the time you shared with them here. What a gift you gave them. You are such a wonderful mom.

Delightful weekend stay

This farmstay is a delight: the owners are welcoming and very warm, keen to make you comfortable and relaxed in enjoying their property. Wonderful, imaginative, fresh food was served as well as happy times walking the property and visiting with the animals. Owners are working hard - and effectively - on a regenerative program of husbandry and generation of food that us of the film “Best Little Farm”. Truly “Best” farm stay in Illinois! Location is great for Quilt Barn tours and Kankakee Riverfront as well.

We are Mr. and Mrs. Farmer Jones, the family behind Locavore Farm. We are farmers, hosts, storytellers, land stewards, and firm believers that beautiful hospitality can help people slow down, reconnect, and remember what matters.

Locavore Farm began as a working family farm and has grown into a nationally recognized farm-to-table destination known for our Dine on the Land dinners, weekly Thursday farm gatherings, farm stays, and seasonal experiences. We love welcoming guests into the rhythm of the farm — whether they come for quiet rest, a walk through the prairie, a meal around the table, or a weekend away with people they love.

Hosting is personal to us. This is not a hotel or a staged rental property. It is part of a real, working farm where land is being restored, food is grown, chickens are raised on pasture, prairie is returning, and guests are invited to witness beauty, stewardship, and renewal up close.

Why they chose this property

Locavore Farm is located in the peaceful countryside of Grant Park, Illinois — close enough to Chicagoland for an easy getaway, but far enough to feel like you have truly stepped away.

We love this area because it holds the best of rural Illinois: open skies, quiet roads, prairie grasses, working farms, sunrises over the fields, and the slower pace that comes with being surrounded by land. Our farm sits on 32 acres with pasture, gardens, a one-acre pond, walking areas, and wide-open views that change beautifully with the seasons.

For many guests, this place feels like a hidden oasis — simple, quiet, and deeply restorative. You can come here to rest, fish, walk the prairie, sit on the patio, attend a farm-to-table dinner, or simply watch the sun move across the land.

What makes this property unique

Locavore Farm is more than a place to stay — it is an authentic farm destination.

The Farmhouse is fully restored, over 100 years old, tastefully decorated, and set within a 32-acre working farm recognized internationally by Frommer’s in Comfort in the Wild as one of 100 destinations to visit. Guests can also book our separate restored Farm Cottage, which sleeps six, through another listing.

What makes the property truly special is the experience surrounding it. Guests may come simply for a peaceful farm stay, or they may purchase tickets separately to one of Locavore’s seasonal experiences, including our nationally recognized Dine on the Land farm-to-table dinners featuring chefs from around the country, or our weekly Thursday farm events from May through October.

This is a place where guests can see stewardship in action — land once conventionally farmed being transformed into prairie, pasture, gardens, pond life, and a place of abundance and rest. It is modern and comfortable, yet timeless. Close to the city, but it feels far away. Quiet, peaceful, alive, and unlike a typical short-term rental.
