"The cabin itself was lovely. Every detail felt intentional and well cared for, which made it easy to relax right away. It was both beautiful and comfortable, a perfect space for our family. Melanie was responsive when needed, yet completely respectful of our privacy. You can tell she genuinely cares about her guests’ experience. We would absolutely stay here again!"

I'’ve been to Brown County quite a few times and stayed in various places, and this one is in a league of its own. The cabin was spotless, comfortable, had endless amenities, and was even more beautiful than the photos. The property was very private and secluded, with gorgeous views all around. My girlfriends and I had a “Reading Retreat” here, and it could not have been a better experience."

" I needed to have a work call and the wifi worked great despite the remoteness. Lovely attention to detail. The space is well-kept and spacious. The coffee bar is particularly noteworthy. It had many coffee and tea options plus espresso so you could grind your own beans."

"The cabin was very nice, clean, and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. What really made it special was how amazing the property is, both inside and out. The interior spaces were cozy and inviting, and the porch areas were especially relaxing and a perfect place to unwind. We also really appreciated the scenic, private location, which made for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. It was exactly the kind of trip we were hoping for. There were also good places to eat and visit nearby, which made the stay even better. We would definitely stay here again."

About the host

Hosted by Melanie Pool

Host profile image
I grew up in the country living in a log cabin surrounded by nature, a pond, lots of animals and with horses. My days as a child were spent outside mostly hiking, exploring on horseback, fishing and playing in the creek.

The nearest town was Nashville, IN home of many artists including my late Grandmother Kaye Pool. I spent many days in Grammy's studio while she painted, watching attentively, daydreaming of the places on canvas she created. Mainly scenes from around the area capturing it's true natural beauty in every season imagined.

My family owned a Christmas tree farm in the earlier days. I can still remember the smell of freshly sheered pine trees, in the fields full of wild native prairie flowers. During the winter season taking families out to cut a tree, keeping count of earnings in a coffee can from each tree. Later, the family purchased a sawmill and proceeded into the lumber and logging business. Many days were spent in the forest with my Dad identifying trees and enjoying nature.

I choose nursing for my profession and spent many years caring for others. During that time I always felt a pull to nature and found peace in the forest. Cabin Porch Paradise was not built as a vacation home originally, but a private residence that I lived in for over 20 years. Situated on 20 acres atop a ridge the cabin was a dream come true from a vision long ago derived from my childhood memories and surroundings.

Why they chose this property

The log home is custom built with all the modern amenities including an outdoor hot tub, indoor Jacuzzi, stone fireplace, and a wood stove. The location is within 15 miles of Bloomington (hometown of IU) or Nashville. Wine tasting and tours within 10 miles, visit the village of Nashville for fine dining, live music, shopping and Brown County State Park. Minutes from Lake Lemon Marina with Kayak, paddle board and pontoon rentals now. Hikers enjoy many trails at nearby Morgan-Monroe State Forest and Yellowwood State Forest. Guests can either stay at the cabin and never leave or go out and enjoy the local attractions.

What makes this property unique

After entering the cabin guests are taken back to find everything hand crafted from soaring beamed ceilings, granite countertops, stone fireplace, hardwood floors, & many large windows for light. The original artwork adorns the walls, with comfortable tasteful furniture for seating.
