Secluded Mountain Home on Columbine Lake - Decks/Views - 1 mile to Purgatory

NOTE: 4WD/AWD required in winter with snow tires (Thanksgiving through late March). Chains can be rented in the neighborhood for $30/day. The driveway cannot accommodate trailers. In winter the garage is not accessible to vehicles and 2-3 cars max can be parked in front of the home (far enough from the roof so snow does not fall on your vehicle). Outside of winter, 1 vehicle can be parked in the garage.

Our custom built home features 6 bedrooms 4 bathrooms and sits on just over an acre and overlooks Columbine Lake. Just 1 mile from Purgatory Ski Resort and 25 miles from historic downtown Durango, the home offers privacy and seclusion. This home also features super fast Starlink WIFI, washer/dryer, garage with space for one car and tons of gear and a fully stocked kitchen.

The home is perfect for multiple families with over 3,700 square feet spread over 3 floors with 3 separate living spaces. The huge deck with a dining table as well as an additional seating area is the perfect spot to relax any time of the day.

This home is pet friendly! We allow a maximum of 2 dogs max and the pet fee is $40/day (for a max $250 per stay).

Stay with us and we offer DISCOUNTS on both summer (white water rafting, horseback riding etc.) and winter (ski/snowboard rentals, sleigh rides, snowmobile tours etc.) activities.

Please note that, like most properties in the area, this home does not have AC, as it is uncommon for homes at this elevation. Temperatures inside the property are easily managed by using fans and opening the windows at night when temperatures drop into the 40s.

There was a piece of machinery and what seemed to be an unfinished front entrance when we arrived. In addition, the sewage pit was uncovered with an associated odor. This meant that we couldn’t open the windows in our bedroom, which faced the sewage pit, because the smell would come into the house. As the inside met the needs of our large group we just kept the windows closed. Toward the end of the trip when I mentioned to vacation Rental collective the sewage smell and unfinished construction, they were very nice but seemed surprised. They said they would talk to the owners. This made me feel like nobody had checked in on the house they were renting to us before we got there, or all of this would’ve been quite obvious to them

A separate apartment with 2 bedrooms, a living area and a kitchen were great for my son and DIL and their 3 little kids. Everybody else was on the 2nd and 3rd stories. Lots of outside seating with a gorgeous view of Columbine Lake. The kitchen was very well stocked. I wanted to cook for all my people and took a hand mixer and small food processor, but they had everything! We would definitely rent this house again if we returned to that area.

Let me say, the view of the mountains are just Fantastic. The location made it so easy to get around to everything from shopping and all the fun things the area offers. There is something all ages. We found our day trips to Mesa Verde, Chimney Rock, Canyon of the Ancients and the Durango /Silverton Train easy to get to. We are planning to go back and bring more of the family. It is worth an encore. Again, just wonderful!

The views from the deck were beautiful with the lake below and the mountains in the distance. Watching the sunrise each morning was a must. The bedrooms were just so peaceful. The beds were comfortable and the bedding a good quality. I especially enjoyed watching the sunrise from the master bed on the mornings I didn’t make it down to the deck for a cup of coffee first! I also liked the private deck off the master bedroom. A perfect place for a quiet time. The kitchen had everything we needed and then some. A drawer of spices in addition to a good amount of other baking needs. Plus the little things like foils and wraps and baggies. Well done!And then there is the location. Easy to get to from the main road into Durango and just down the road from the Purgatory Ski Resort. We found plenty to do! The ski resort has fun summer activities- scenic chair lift rides, alpine slides, and a roller coaster. Horseback riding just down the road, razor rentals in Silverton, plus live music and FANTASTIC food at the James Ranch. Of course great hikes all around and ALWAYS shopping in Durango. With all of the positives I mentioned above, I still haven’t mentioned one of the biggest - the weather! Coming from the South in July to a beautiful home with amazing views AND cool mornings and evenings AND low humidity is just a dream come true. I didn’t want to leave. The staff at VRC was fantastic to work with. They were very quick to respond to my messages and very friendly when I spoke to them. I would recommend VRC and most definitely, this lovely home when planning your next vacation.
