About this property
Quiet - Romantic - Secluded Cottage on Lake
Dramatically set on the side of a mountain, overlooking a sparkling clean, spring-fed 12-acre lake, our cottage is perfect for honeymooners or nature lovers-- or anyone who appreciates peace and quiet. It's tucked away down a private road-- secluded, quiet and private, surrounded by the beauty of Maine's woods. There's a horse stable on our road with beautiful horses including miniatures.
The cottage features a high deck facing our 200 feet of natural lake frontage with dock and canoe. In the dappled sunlight or under a star-blasted night sky, it’s utterly private, on 3 wooded acres.
Please note: We rent only to (non-smoking) adults. And since the bedroom is up a flight of stairs, our cottage is not suitable for handicapped individuals.
The 2005-built cottage has mahogany flooring, knotty pine paneling, and big windows with pretty views. The sunny living room has comfortable, furniture and a cozy dining area next to a cast iron heat stove (ceramic log, propane fireplace).
Due to changes in climate, I've added a heat pump with air conditioning and heating. Summers in Maine have become warmer and even sometimes humid, so air conditioning is important for a good night's rest.
Upstairs, a romantic "loft" bedroom overlooks the living room and has a custom-made, queen-size platform bed with a firm mattress with added memory foam topper. All bedding is supplied. Windows upstairs offer a view of the lake and treetops.
There's a small, quiet room at the back of the house with a futon couch/bed.
The big bathroom features a washer/dryer, a walk-in shower and a large, custom made, pine cabinet, inset with a Mexican ceramic sink and with roomy drawers for towel and extra blanket storage. Towels are supplied. Good, fresh water comes from a deep, private well and a water filter pitcher is also supplied.
In the compact kitchen are new appliances including a microwave and smooth-top range. (No dishwasher besides yourself.) Good lighting with an extra LED light over the stove. Quality cookware, knives, dishes, glassware-- fully equipped except for your groceries.
There’s a CD/radio/cassette player, a 13" TV (satellite dish connection) and DVD player with a several DVDs on hand. There’s satellite internet, and very good cell phone reception. Books, maps and brochures are supplied.
The canoe at our dock is equipped with life jackets and paddles, and the water is very clean for swimming and good for fishing-- mainly bass and pickerel.
Several more photos available on request-- interior, exterior, lake view panorama, etc...

About the host
Hosted by Ginger Marie

I'm Ginger, a retired commercial artist, born in Maine, but raised in Virginia. I love beauty, nature, and simple pleasures. In this photo, I've just bought fresh blueberries in the nearby town of Union.
Why they chose this property
Maine is Heaven on Earth to me and I always yearned for a cottage there. This one was an unfinished summer home on 3 wild acres, bordering on a quiet lake-- my dream come true! I worked with a contractor, designing it every inch and I love it so much. It gives me great pleasure to share it with folks who feel about Maine the way I do.
What makes this property unique
At my cottage, you're immersed in nature-- surrounded by woods and busy wildlife. My favorite spot is leaning on the deck railing, gazing through the trees to the lake, watching for birds and chipmunks. We've had a groundhog living under a tree near the deck; we regularly see wild turkeys and deer. I've even seen a porcupine waddling down our road. Yesterday while canoeing around the lake, we startled a MOOSE on the opposite bank. And once, a giant heron stood on our dock and then came right up to our driveway.
Our cottage is uniquely private. You could go skinny-dipping, if you wanted.
Augusta is just 10 minutes away, with it's shopping centers and restaurants, but I like the local, Hussey's General Store better. A day at the pretty coast is always a possibility, --for Pemaquid Point lighthouse, local crafts, old books and antiques, and a classic lobster dinner overlooking the ocean at sunset.
