About this property

A remote country cabin surrounded by Forests, Creeks, and near Cheaha & Pinhoti!

Need a place to unwind and relax? No other houses are in sight of the Waldo cabin. You can take a relaxing few days away from the crowds and worries of the world. Spend some time in the country for a few days and reconnect with family, friends and nature! There is no light pollution, so go outside and do some stargazing. I have a fire pit in the front yard for a cozy campfire and BYOM...bring your own marshmallows!

Triple Creek Farm is on the banks of Talladega Creek overlooking the historic Waldo Covered Bridge and old grist mill. Gold used to be mined in the local area and many modern day prospectors come from far and wide to pan Talladega Creek for gold. The farm is 20 acres of oaks, dogwoods, pines and wildflowers surrounded by the Talladega National Forest, with no neighbors in sight! It is nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians at the base of Cheaha Mountain.

You may want to spend your days fishing or tubing the creek or exploring the incredible spring display of wildflowers such as trillium, wild geranium and red buckeye. Perhaps you would enjoy mountain biking the miles of Talladega National Forest roads or the Chief Ladiga Rail Trial near by. Love hiking and backpacking, the Pinhoti Trail, the longest trail in Alabama, is just 2 miles away. Maybe you are a road biker and want to climb from Waldo up to the highest point in Alabama, Mt Cheaha. You can ride your bike out of the Triple Creek Farm drive way and do this.

Just a few miles away is Majestic Caverns Park, where you can explore a deep underground cave, and spend the day enjoying their many family fun activities.

Waldo is just outside the Talladega city limits. Talladega is home to the historic Ritz Theater and the annual April in Talladega pilgrimage of homes. So much fun to choose from... but, perhaps you just look forward to relaxing on the big front screened porch watching birds. Go for a walk and watch the lazy creek roll by.

Many folks tell me of the nostalgia of the old train that passes by several times a day. And kids get excited to see it. If you are a light sleeper and not a fan of trains, I provide earplugs and sound machines in the bedrooms.

Then, of course, if you are a Nascar fan... Waldo is just down the road (about 20 miles) from the Talladega Superspeedway! Planning to come to Dega to drive a race car on the fastest track in all the land? After a fast paced day of racing, come stay in the country and relax!

There is a full kitchen, but if you'd rather not cook, hop in the car and run to Talladega, 6 miles or Oxford, 20 miles, for a selections of restaurants, shops and movie theaters.

Feel free to contact Maggie for more information. She spent over 20 years exploring the mountains on foot, by bike and on horseback! You will find maps of the area and lots of information on things to do, when you arrive at the cabin. Recent updates to bedroom furniture mean we have sleeping for 6 people.

A walk in the woods

I was looking for a retreat, in nature and close to good hiking, and this was perfect. There is a long, lovely walk on the property down to Talladega Creek, and it's also just a few minutes from the Pinhoti. The cabin itself was comfortable and cozy warm, even when temps fell to the teens. Maggie was conscientiously helpful and gracious.

Great stay in Waldo!

Our family had an amazing stay in this Waldo property! Very comfortable home with everything we needed to cook and grill our meals. Plenty of blankets for chilly mornings. We loved the back porch with the view of the woods and saw some beautiful birds! Cheaha State Park and several hiking trails are a close drive away. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Perfect place to get away from it all and enjoy nature.

My wife and I stayed for a weekend getaway. We were impressed by how comfortable, clean, and how well stocked the house was. Hopefully we can come back with the kids when it is warmer so that we can enjoy the exploring the river.

Waldo

We thought highly of the property. It was very pleasant. The only knock we had was ticks but, your in the woods so ya know. Access to the creek could be improved, maybe a small landing with a railing to help get in and out. But overall an excellent place to stay.

Homie style stay with beautiful scenery

My husband and family came to experience a little of Talladega National Forest and to attend a Bigfoot conference in the area. Our son really enjoyed the creek which provided soooo much entertainment for all of us. We do have dogs and we appreciated the remoteness of the home that allowed our dogs to be a little free(er) than a usual rental. I highly recommend tick repellant and for ypur animals to have a tick pill...not a collar as one of ours had just a collar and we were constantly picking ticks off of him. The owner Maggie had a bunch of information on the local area and what attractions were nearby. Ive already recommended this rental to my friends and family!

Nice property & creek access, but some asthetic & comfort limitations

Nice path to walk to creek and around property, screened porch was useful re: rain & bugs. Interior not very cozy, didn't invite a nice cottage hangout - more like a homebase for a small family. Kitchen has equipment, but not resources like spices or cooking oil. Kids board games available. Remote, but highway nearby and train down the road passes frequently.

Father and Son get away.

I am 64 and a resident of Mississippi. My Son is 39 and lives in North Carolina. We have been looking for a halfway point to meet and spend a long weekend for some time. We were not disappointed. The Cabin was clean, well equipped with plenty of room and private. Property and area along the creek it was located on was beautiful. Locked behind a private gate. The only detraction was a nearby train track and the frequent passage of trains, but quickly gotten used to and barely noticed. The property is not far from a country store for small items that might be needed and only 6 or 8 minutes back into Talladega for grocery, restaurants or other needs. We spent a lot of time in the Talladega National Forest. Maps are available and suggest you get one at the Ranger Station in town. Plenty of hiking, biking, hunting and fishing opportunities within minutes and a nearby public shooting range for those that like to target shoot. State Park and small towns all within and hours drive. The Forest is mostly hardwoods with steep hills and valleys reminiscent of areas up in the Smokey Mtns. The fall colors in the leaves were present and very impressive during our stay. My only complaint is the last road on the direction is not currently marked with a name sign and if you are not paying attention you will drive past it. Also be advised Talladega County is dry and adult beverages are not sold on Sunday. Otherwise we had a great time. We were more than pleased with the cabin. The value per cost can't be beat. If you want a quiet retreat with plenty of privacy you won't regret your stay here.

Although the outside doesn't have the appearance of a cabin the inside does. Antique furniture, wooden walls and high ceiling beams. The kitchen is very well equipped. The sound of the train was nostogic. My favorite spot was sitting on the porch listening to the breeze and watching the slow falling leaves. Our host was great and available if we needed her.
