My family and I had a great experience. We stayed here last year and liked it so much that we chose to stay here again. The cabin and views are outstanding. The host kept us well informed. Check in and check out were a breeze.
Our group enjoyed our weekend at this property. It is laid out well for two families and is in great proximity to Valle Crucis and Blowing Rock. Recommend a stop at Grandfather Mountain Vineyards down the road for live music and wine.
This house is absolutely lovely and the location is perfect. It was so cozy and inviting and very well appointed. We had everything we needed to make our stay perfect. The hosts were wonderful. We couldn’t get the fireplace to work on our first chilly night there and the owner called us right away to talk us through how to get it going. We would jump at the chance to stay here again!
We had a great stay at Highlander Retreat. The home is well appointed and has beautiful views. It was perfect for our girls’ weekend. Plenty of space, clean, and very comfortable. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a wonderful time at Clayton’s mountain home. Everything was perfect for our stay. Even with some rain and fog we were comfortable. Clayton and Liz were very helpful and responded to our messages in a timely manner. We certainly would love to come back to this fabulous place in the future.
Back for the second year in a row…all of our favorite things from last year plus more! This house is the best for our group. The open living room and kitchen, fire pit, shuffle board table, deck…we cannot say enough good things. The hosts are top notch—friendly and helpful. We are always sad when this weekend ends. Thank you for another great year!
Cozy and comfortable cabin feel with all the modern amenities! The cabin was well stocked with linens, soaps, and kitchen tools/spices a family could need. Plenty of room for a large family. We loved the gas fireplace and used it every night while watching TV or playing games. Very clean inside and out. Peaceful and quiet with amazing views. Close to everything. Will definitely will be coming back again.
The list of wonderful things about this past weekend’s mountain experience at this property just continues to grow! The hosts were fantastic with communicating. The checkin process was flawless. After we checked in, we probably said two dozen times “this place is perfect.” The house was clean and fit our group’s sleeping needs. The kitchen being open to the massive couch and beautiful fireplace was just what we wanted. The location made it easy to enjoy Wiseman’s View, Boone, and Blowing Rock while on our trip. Truly, cannot say enough good things and we will absolutely be coming back!
We had a fantastic stay at this VRBO for our daughter’s App State graduation! The location was convenient—just a short drive to Lowe’s grocery store in Banner Elk and an easy trip to Boone. The home itself is thoughtfully designed for larger families, with bedrooms positioned on either side of a spacious, open-concept kitchen, living, and dining area. One of the standout features was the accessibility—entry was simple, and it worked wonderfully for a family member who uses a walker. The owners were communicative and helpful throughout our stay, ensuring everything went smoothly. The large deck was perfect for sipping wine and taking in the views. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed—including a cast iron pan, which was a great touch for cooking! Overall, this home made for a perfect getaway. We would definitely stay here again.
Be prepared for a winding road up the side of a mountain for a one level home that worked well for us and our son’s family. We were on one side and they were on the other side with lots of space between for active grandchildren. The kids loved playing outside in late fall. The outdoor terrain can be a challenge for older adults depending on any challenges you have as it’s on a hill. Large deck offers lots of outdoor level space. Huge inside fireplace offered extra warmth. Private with great outdoor views.
Nicely located, conveniently away from city noise, in a quiet neighborhood surrounded by a barely disturbed forest, the house offers great views of the surrounding mountains (beautiful sunrise) from most living areas, and the deck.
Close to trekking, skiing (Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain), shopping, etc. Ideal for a family vacation.
It has an efficient heating system and a fireplace (gas) which we all appreciated since we arrived during a cold front.
The house is very clean, nicely decorated, and well-furnished all over, bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and living @ dining rooms like if it was our own house, with abundant extras such as good books, and an awesome TV (ideal "landing site" after skiing or other outdoor activities).
Good beds and comfortable sleeping rooms, with a Master Bedroom separated by double doors from common areas, a "nice to have" when you want to rest.
Communication with the owner was at all times, good, timely and friendly.
We loved it, and would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the kind words Eduardo! Glad you all enjoyed the house and we would welcome your group back anytime.
Clean house and quiet neighborhood made for an enjoyable long weekend. Close to grocery store and an easy/short drive into either Boone or Banner Elk. Ended up skiing at Beech Mountain and was about a 30 min drive, but Sugar Mountain would be less than 15 mins away. House had everything we needed, including a boot dryer and a large hearth, which ended up being very useful when drying out our snow gear each day! We ended up getting "snowed in" one morning due to the slick conditions of the roads. The town does come around about every hour and put down salt, so the road does melt quickly and vehicles were eventually able to make it down the road that afternoon. A nice surprise was that the owners have the driveway plowed and sidewalk shoveled if a heavy snow does arrive during your stay. Recommend for your next stay!
On that third day of our stay Hurricane Helene hit. Lost power. Undecided about leaving since we were booked 3 more days. The next day we lost water. Contacting host took 2-3 hours. Finally found a neighbor who told us about the seriousness of our location and helped us evacuate. Only road out was washing out. We could have used battery lighting and city water as our neighbors had. An evacuation plan included in the house information would have been help. Host is in another city Loved the house. Won’t go back.

Hi Carolyn - I am sorry you had a stressful experience. You endured a historically tragic event that caused billions in damages across multiple states. Fortunately our place was spared and the area has rebounded quickly. We live 2+ hours away but did all that we could to contact the local emergency resources to support you leaving and getting out of the area. If there were delays in getting back to you, it was only due to us trying to assess the situation and reach the proper authorities during a time when cell service and wifi was very spotty and in majority of cases not working at all. We have added more emergency supplies since this event. I am not sure an evacuation plan is helpful for an event of this nature and encourage our guests to monitor and heed the advice of local authorities ahead of a storm of this nature. We take a lot of pride in being hosts and in our experience for guests (this is our first less than 5 star review in over 100+ stays) so I am glad you loved the house. If you have specific feedback for house unrelated to the storm we would love to hear.
Property was exactly as described and even more beautiful than the photos. Very thoughtful touches throughout that made our stay comfortable. We stayed as a meeting place for family for our daughters graduation from App state. It was perfect! I cooked several meals, the house was well equipped and very cozy and clean. It would be hard to get to in ice or snow, but luckily we had neither. Highly recommended.
