About this property

Cottage on Friar's Bay

Settle into a home with history, warmth, and plenty of personality. Built in 1907, this is an older house with the kind of character you won’t find in a new build. It feels lived-in, unique, and full of charm—not like a hotel-style rental or a newly constructed home.

Guests should expect the normal quirks that come with a house of this age. Some floors, doors, fixtures, or finishes may show their age, and not everything will look or operate with the polish of new construction. If you are looking for sleek, modern perfection, this may not be the right fit. But if you appreciate historic charm, comfort, and a home with a story, you’ll likely feel right at home here.

The house offers a relaxed and welcoming place to unwind, gather, cook, rest, and enjoy the area at your own pace. It is best suited for guests who value character over perfection and want a comfortable stay in a real home rather than a showroom.

Come expecting charm, age, and a few imperfections—and enjoy the kind of stay that feels personal, easygoing, and memorable.

Campobello Island getaway

The cottage was perfect: roomy with lots of character and very good wifi, washer/dryer, dishwasher etc. Location in Welshpool was great with easy access to nearby parks including Roosevelt cottage and superb view of bay of Fundy. I would recommend this property to my friends wihout reservation.

August weekend stay

We spent a long weekend here in August with our kids, ages 5-9, and had a great stay. This place is big! Lots of room, high ceilings, plenty of places to play, read, hang out. Outdoor shower was a plus, and the big open front & back yards. There’s a good view down to the bay, and a little path through the meadow flowers to get there. It looks like the owners are in the process of replacing or repairing some windows, so not all the windows open, but we like old houses with quirks and character and this place suited us just perfectly. It was our first time to Campobello Island, and we found way more places to walk, bike, swim and explore than listed online and in guide books. We saw minke whales, seals, and porpoises from the lighthouse and around various coves.

Bathroom needs updating

Overall the house was clean and spacious. The beds were comfortable. The house was the most well equipped home we have ever stayed in for toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies and clean towels. Our only complaint was the upstairs bathroom that has the only shower in the house. The shower is awful. Getting in and out of the clawfoot tub is tricky, no where to put soap or shampoo at all so you have to put it on the floor of the tub, the shower is super tight and you can’t even put your arms up to wash your hair without being wrapped up in shower curtain. The shower head barely works and dribbles water on you at a painfully slow rate. Then there is the sewer gas smell that just overwhelms the upstairs from the bathroom. Helps if you run the tub for a long time. Must be missing a trap under the tub or something. Zero counter space, the smallest sink ever, a toilet that you have to squeeze in between the tub and sink to get to and multiple families of spiders living amongst the exposed pipes. The floor is wrotten around the toilet and sink. This bathroom needs a full gut and remodel. We wouldn’t recommend or stay in this house again unless this bathroom was remodeled. It was miserable.
