This was a nice, well kept house in a great location. The host provided very good communication. It was nice to have beach chairs provided. There are only window a/c units, which was a slight drawback, but they kept the house cool enough. Overall, it was a really good place to stay.

Great place to stay!
We had a great time staying at John and Pat's rental home. The house was very clean. You can see the lake from the porch and it was only a short walk to get there. Restaurants, zoo and outlets malls were within 1.5 miles. We will definitely be back!
This was an ideal property for our family of five. Nothing fancy, so we felt comfortable and at home. We loved the private beach access! Michigan City is a fun place to visit. We hope to come again. Highly recommend!

Thanks Kelly, glad you enjoyed the beach and all that Michigan City has to offer. We would love to host you again if you are visiting Michigan City.
The location of the property is ideal for beach-goers, only a short 7-10 min walk. The house was clean and in a fairly quiet location. The only downfall is the driveway is tricky to get in and out of due to the angle and steepness, but manageable with a smaller vehicle.
This is our second time here. We love the location. It's just a short walk to the beach (150 yards maybe?). It's clean and had all the amenities we needed. The owner is pleasant and helpful.
This cottage felt like staying in a family's place on the lake. We had such a great time walking the easy path down to the beach several times a day, then returning to the cottage high up on the bluff, surrounded by trees with a lake view from the screened porch(great for coffee time). The beds are comfortable, the place has character and John's suggestions for local restaurants in his welcome binder were excellent! A perfect place to get away from the city and enjoy Lake Michigan with welcoming hosts.

Vanessa, Thanks for great review. Thanks for choosing us and glad you had a good time.
I will start by saying that the location is incredible! Just a short walk (and I mean short) to majestic beaches. Be prepared to walk stairs to get to the cottage. This isn't a negative, but it is a fact. The cottage is cozy and clean. The hosts let us have our own private vacation, but were also accessible if we needed anything and always had a smile. Our kids definitely want to come back!

Josh thanks for your nice review. We’re glad you had a great vacation. We’d love to have you back in the future to again enjoy our majestic beaches.
Check-in process was easy. The host was there to welcome us and he walked us through the house. The forecast was unusually cold for summer during a couple of days of our stay, so he turned on the fire in the heater for us.
The property was 1 block from the beach entrance. It was very convenient. It was not even a hassle to go back and forth to the house if we forgot something. I appreciate that the host has provided beach chairs and beach umbrella. There were even some sand toys available.
The parking spot was at an incline and can be challenging to back out of it onto the street since the street can be quite busy and it's hard to see upcoming traffic if you're backing out. It's easier if you go up to the driveway then back into the parking spot. This way, you can see the traffic (and pedestrians) when getting out.
Bed was comfortable, plenty of pillows and blankets.
Overall, we were happy with our stay. No complaints whatsoever.
Great little property, perfect for myself, wife, and two kids. Convenient location, short walk to the Beach and still within walking distance to Washington Park area. Attached sunroom was perfect for dropping hiking gear, beach gear, and shoes before going into the house. Stairs up to the property were a little cumbersome for vehicle unloading/loading, but otherwise not a problem. Would come back!
First understand this is a cottage...not a house. It IS clean and well kept and efficient. It sits at the top of a steep bluff. It has a nice front porch with screened windows, which offer those nice views of lake. With the windows open there is a lovely breeze that comes in.
The wooden plank stairs that lead up are considerable....not impossible, but they definitely get your attention. Notably, there is only one (1) steep parking spot. The parking spot is gravel and so steep that it is imparetive to use the parking brake.
So, this isn't a fancy hotel, and if you have vertigo you will want to keep looking. However, with all this said, it IS truthful about being a 10 minute walk to Lake Michigan. Down the steps, down the street and down the sandy path to the beautiful sandy shore line. As the section of beach area is not public access, the beach is never crowded and is as lovely as can be. The brisk walk back up to the cabin is nominal, and there is a convenient downstairs shower to wash off any lingering sand.
Proximity to any restaurants, bars and retail is only 5-10 minutes drive. If you are interested in proximity to the beach this is a good choice.
Bed and pillows were comfy. We had all pots and pans we needed. Loved the closed in front porch. 5 stars for having ice ready for us when we arrived!!!
This was our first vacation to lake Michigan but it will not be our last! We had a great long weekend and John and his wife were excellent hosts. The house was very clean, in a great location, and exactly as described.
The cottage is exactly as advertised on VRBO. It is a simple accommodation about a block from the beach, with a cabin feel. It’s clean and cozy, with a well-stocked kitchen. It is on a wooded lot, complete with an occasional deer, beautiful natural ferns and a peaceful vibe. We loved it!
Location location location! Perfect view while Perched up on the hill over looking Lake Michigan and just a few steps to the beach! John is an awesome host and quick to respond. When I couldn’t find the blow dryer, he brought one over immediately! Definitely would stay again!
Small cottage very close to the beach, and enjoyed by our family. I enjoyed coffee on the covered porch in the morning with lake views. Simple kitchen, bath, and bedrooms, older but still nice and functional. WiFi was fast and reliable, cell signal was very limited. Overall we would stay here again for sure, great value and location.
My wife and I had a great experience at John and Pat's Michigan City cottage. We found the house to be extremely clean and well maintained. The people in the neighborhood were kind to us all week, and we felt welcome the entire time. Best of all, it was just a short walk to the Lake Michigan beach. The beach is clean, quiet. and not overly populated. The home is also in close proximity to Washington Park and a small zoo. There is a great variety of places to eat and shop, all within three miles of the cottage. We felt safe riding our bikes all over town throughout the week. John was very easy to work with, and did everything he could to make us feel at home. You will not regret renting this place!
