Birch Bay at Its Best — Peaceful, Walkable, and Right on the Water

Birch Bay at Its Best — Peaceful, Walkable, and Close to the Water
Tucked at the quieter end of Birch Bay, just across the street from the beach, Blue Heron Hideaway is an end-unit townhouse in the Seaside Cottages. Two private decks, water views, and a bright open layout — a relaxed base for a seaside trip, whether you’re here with family, a partner, or just looking for a change of pace.

Five Reasons to Stay at Blue Heron Hideaway
>> Just Across from the Beach
Cross the street and you’re there. Dig for clams at low tide, launch a kayak when the water’s right, or just sit and watch the bay.

>> Two Private Decks
One for morning coffee, one for evening drinks. Herons and bald eagles are regulars along Terrell Creek — keep an eye out.

>> Light-Filled and Comfortable
Big windows and an open layout keep things bright. The primary bedroom has a queen and quiet creek views. The second bedroom has a twin-over-full bunk with a trundle — practical for families. The loft upstairs is a good spot for games, reading, or a quiet TV night.

>> Easy Day Trips in Every Direction
Birch Bay State Park is minutes away. Semiahmoo Spit is a short drive for shoreline walks and waterfront dining. Blaine’s marina and downtown are close. Bellingham is about 30 minutes for hiking, more restaurants, and city conveniences.

>> Quiet End of the Bay, Not Off the Map
Away from the busiest stretch of Birch Bay, but nothing feels far. A calm base, not a remote one.

Around the Area
Birch Bay moves at its own pace. The tidal flats stretch for miles, the beach warms up in summer as the tide pulls back, and the birdwatching is genuinely good — the Audubon Society recognizes it as one of 50 Important Birding Areas in Washington State. Captain Vancouver stopped here in 1792 and the bay takes its name from the black birch trees his crew used to brew beer on the voyage.
Grab coffee in Blaine before heading to the state park. Spend an afternoon walking Semiahmoo Spit. Bellingham is close enough for a day trip, far enough that you won’t feel like you’re staying in the suburbs.

A Few Practical Notes
Sleeps up to 6, most comfortable for 2–4. End unit, so you get added privacy — neighbors are next door but you’d never know it once you’re inside. Self check-in via keypad. A rental agreement is required and will be sent through the booking platform upon booking.

The Blue Heron Hideaway is entirely your space while you are here.

Birch Bay is a cute seaside town in North Western Washington. It boasts a large sandy tide flat of several square miles as the tide returns to shore the water warms in the summer. It is the perfect place for a summer vacation.

It has large heron nesting areas, a state park at the south end and outstanding birding and sightseeing throughout the year. Birch Bay is classed by the Audubon Society as one of 50 Important Birding Areas (IBA`s) in Washington State, along with nearby Blaine’s Drayton Harbor.

Birch Bay has a rich history that goes back thousands of years, and in fact Captain George Vancouver in the Discovery on his Expedition in 1792 landed on Cottonwood Beach with his fellows including Peter Puget (Sound), Joseph Whidbey ( Island) & Joseph Baker (Mt). Factual legend has it that Captain Vancouver stopped in Birch Bay during 1792 Expedition and the Admiralty used the Black Birch Trees to brew beer, a common staple on the long voyage- they named Birch Bay after the same tree.

We had a lovely and quiet family vacation over the new year. The host provided all the amenities we needed and we even found a nice dog bed under the queen bed that our German Shepard loved. Will stay here again!

Summertime stay at the Blue Heron

It was a great summer time stay at the Blue Heron! The beach is close. Nice place to go for a run, or a nice walk along the shoreline at Birch Bay. The town of Blaine is just 5-10 minutes away. Marine Park is a beautiful shoreline park there. Peace Arch Park is a must see. Semiahmoo Spit trail is a fun time too! Bellingham is close by. Fairhaven. Whatcom Creek provides some great swimming holes. The Blue Heron is a peaceful home that is right in the middle of it all!
