About this property
Cozy Vintage Cabin on Placid Lake, Montana - Waterfront, Sleeps 6 Adults - Wi-Fi
Welcome to "The Cabin on Placid Lake." We are offering our nearly 100-year old cabin, restored and rebuilt to a year-round four season getaway, for a handful of weeks out of each year..
Sitting on just over two acres of flat, private, forested land, relax and de-stress in this quintessential, quiet spot on Placid Lake, approximately 5 miles deep in the mountains, yet just 10 minutes to the town of Seeley Lake, MT.
Enjoy lounging on the covered porch or waterfront deck with a fresh cup of cabin coffee, both within a stone's toss to the water. Bring your boat or boats and secure them to a new 2022 Daka dock extending well into comfortable depths for both boats and daily dives into the cool, fresh Placid Lake waters. Launch your boats just 5 minutes down the road at the Placid Lake State Park. (dock is put in on May 1 and pulled out on October 1 each year)
Not bringing a boat but still want to get out on the water? No worries. We have a 2022 Pelican brand kayak and a canoe for you to use. :)
Sit back and appreciate the 150 year old + larch pine logs within, logged from the land nearly 100 years ago by the original loggers of the area.. The main sleeping area features eight large windows with amazing views of the lake. The sunsets from this king size bed are truly hard to beat. In the fall and winter, add the extra nice touch of turning on the gas vintage style wood stove sitting in the corner of the room.
The kids' corner features a convenient trundle bed style with two twin beds. Perfect for the kiddos, or... two good size grownups! Three drawers to boot for all the kids clothes.
Need to get away from it all while the kids play Nintendo on those rainy or blustery blizzards that may roll in? No problem, retreat about 25 steps to the Office Study that comes complete with bathroom, fireplace, piano, desk and a pull out queen size couch for extra sleeping, as needed! The views from this study are also hard to beat!
Also not if you want to keep all six sleepers in the cabin, the couch has two recliners that recline nearly flat. Not as comfortable as the queen size bed in the study cabin, but another option, especially for the kids!
Want to invite a few extra friends over for dinner? No problem. We have a Transformer Table that can convert from a small computer desk, all the way up to seating eight comfortably. Just pull it open, place the additional "leaves" and you are now able to host the entire group! Just the six of you, you say? Even better! Keep it simple by using the kitchen breakfast nook. A cozy, intimate and easy-going way to enjoy your breakfast, lunch or dinner for up to six people.
So you're a water person but the lake is too cold? We've got you covered with a new Hot Springs Spas Hot Tub that can be enjoyed throughout the winter. Enjoy your favorite hot or cold beverage while sitting in the soothing 104 degree water in perfect solitude! In the winter, you may not have the water skiing, but what you do have is nearly the entire lake to yourself. You might find a few ice fisherman if you need someone to talk to, but other than that, expect to hear only the calls of the wild, and not much else.

About the host

Hello! We are the Baxters! A family of three; my wife, me, and our adventurous son Finn! We love our special cabin on the lake, "a little slice of heaven" we like to call it ;) As for me, I was raised on a farm in upstate NY, then spent a number of years in Southern CA. My desire to get back to nature led me to Montana where I have now lived for the better part of 25 years. As an online retailer, my family and I are able to spend a good part of the year at The Cabin on Placid Lake as well our other favorite getaways, one being Japan, where my wife was born and raised. At the cabin, my son and I enjoy fishing for salmon, trout, bass and of course the ever-so-fun-to-catch, bluegills! If you want the lowdown on how and where, for our renters only, we will share our secrets!
Why they chose this property
if you have seen your share of lake properties, you probably know that the cabin is one thing, but the property is quite another. As much as I love the charm and coziness of our nearly 100-year old cabin, what I like the most is the land where it sits. With perhaps 100 or so towering pine trees surrounding the cabin, we love walking what we humbly call our own, personal forest on the 1 acre + piece of land with 140 feet of lake frontage. Depending on the time of year and the water level, we enjoy sitting on our private beach as the water laps along the shore. If you want to extend your views, walk down our 60 foot long dock to a nice sized 12x12 square at the end, truly the perfect spot for taking in some of the best sunsets we've ever seen. Recently, we added a lush, green lawn, along with a sprinkler system for family barefoot fun playing games while the sunlight off the lake dazzles in the background. At night, there's nothing better than lighting a fire in the fire pit and sitting around it cooking hot dogs on skewers or, for the grand finale, SMORES!
If you need to break way to get some work down, the Office Study is the perfect place. Quiet, air-conditioned, peaceful. Not a bad place for an afternoon nap either! The views from the study equal or may even be better than what you'll find inside the cabin, but both are certainly hard to beat.
If you are renting in the winter, all I can say is get ready to relax. The constant snowfall at Placid Lake makes for an idyllic experience, warm and toasty in the tightly insulated cabin. Enjoy not one, but two fireplaces inside. Time to get the jammies and slippers out, grab your favorite cup of coffee or hot chocolate, and sink into the best side of peace and quiet. Want to take in the elements a bit more? How about building a snowman or having a snowball fight, or cross country skiing on the frozen lake? Whatever your choice, remember to hot tub in our Hot Springs Spa after!
What makes this property unique
1. Sits on a private 1 acre + parcel, heavily wooded with Larch / Tamarack Pines. 2. Summer - Top of the line 60ft + Daka dock, extending your fun into great depths! 3. Summer - a cove-like feel at the waterfront, largely private from our (albeit awesome) neighbors! 4. Summer - Intimate, Private Beach Area for a small group. 5. Charming, nearly 100 Year Old Log Cabin with all the conveniences for year-round living. 6. A separate, private office study to get some work done (or play the piano) in peace and quiet. 7. A waterfront facing covered porch where you can sit, snow, rain or shine, and enjoy all that Placid Lake has to offer, spring, summer, fall, or winter!
