About this property
Huge 8 BR/8 BA Secluded Retreat, Spectacular Views 15min to downtown on MTS Tr
What sets the Wayward Moose Lodge apart from the rest of the properties in the Asheville area? Its location has to be first on the list. You will feel secluded, having a mountain top with incredible scenic views all to yourself, but you in fact will be 5-10 minutes from shopping and 10-15 minutes from eclectic downtown Asheville with all it’s breweries. Twenty minutes to the east is the quaint town of Black Mountain. You will find some of the best hiking, fishing, and white water the region has to offer within an hour’s drive. The Mountains to the Sea Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway will literally be a few hundred feet out your back door. The second thing that sets us apart is much more mundane but is important to many of our guests and that is the fact that each of the eight spacious bedroom has its own bathroom. Two of these eight bathrooms have air jetted tubs and the primary suite has a claw foot tub as well as large shower. You can’t overlook the view. Actually, you can overlook it all you want, as it will be staring you in the face about anywhere you are at the Wayward Moose Lodge. My favorite vantage point is from a rocking chair on one of the extensive porches. There is no better way to end a day than to relax with family and friends on the porch in the evening, soaking in the last remnants of daylight on the mountain peaks in the distance. As the evening progresses you can join your family and friends around our fire pit. When you find yourself having to go inside you will enjoy a lodge type setting with log walls and vaulted ceilings. There is a large great room that is a perfect place for gatherings of any sort and this is serviced by a professional style kitchen. All of these features make the Wayward Moose Lodge a perfect place for family reunions, wedding parties and corporate retreats.
We can provide transportation for a fee in our 12 passenger(including driver) 4WD van. Go out for an evening on the town and leave the driving to us. If the weather gets bad, we can get you where you need to go!
Special notes: The Lodge is made up of 2 structures, the main Lodge and the Guest House. They both have 4 bedrooms and 4 baths each . All the common spaces are in the main Lodge and the Guest House only has bed and bathrooms. The 2 structures come at the one rental price quoted and they cannot be rented separately. To access the main Lodge you have to climb the 10-15 stairs seen in our pictures. The 2 buildings are very close to each other (10-20 feet apart).
Per Vrbo policy we need to disclose that there is a ring camera overlooking the parking area that we use to keep an eye on things when there is no one staying at the Lodge. If this is an issue for you, there is a switch to turn it off.
PLEASE NOTE THAT FOR A LIMITED PERIOD OF TIME WE ARE ALLOWING GUESTS TO RENT THE MAIN LODGE BUILDING WITHOUT THE GUEST HOUSE FOR A DISCOUNTED PRICE. IT HAS 4 BEDROOMS AND 4.5 BATHROOMS AND EASILY SLEEPS 10. INQUIRE REGARDING DISCOUNTED PRICES FOR A LIMITED TIME ONLY.

We had our instructor retreat here. It was awesome! The communication was perfect. We had a storm come through and lost power for a few hours and the host kept us informed throughout the entire time. It was peaceful and perfect for what we wanted. We will be going back next year!

We planned our stay at this cabin for the space it provided. Which worked out for us. As for the cabin, the outside landscaping was overgrown, cobwebs were left on the light fixtures, and the host would text in the middle of the night. This cabin has a lot of potential but is need of some TLC and the host could have some understanding on when to communicate and when not to.
Gorgeous views, absolutely phenomenal space for large groups, super easy check in, kitchen is easily ready for cooking anything. It's very hard to find a place where every room has a bathroom, but this is it. Our group had a blast.
We had a fantastic time. The cabin(s) are spacious and well appointed. We loved the privacy, the views and the proximity to downtown Asheville. Highly recommend!!
We had 16 people in both houses and loved it. The chef's kitchen was great and we had plenty of room to all socialize. The road up to the houses is steep and best to drive it the first time during daylight. We had an issue with the AC in the main house when we arrived and Simms was very responsive. He showed up within 15 min and took care of it. We had a hibachi chef come and cook us dinner one night. We set up by the outdoor fire pit and brought our own tables/tablecloths/camping chairs. That was a lot of fun and saved us from driving into town and finding a place to eat for all of us. There is a small trail right off the driveway that will lead you to the MTS main trail. It is an easy hike to an overlook. We also enjoyed checking out the Appalachian folk arts center and the local farmer's market.
This is a lovely and spacious rustic mountain lodge with stunning views. You can tell that this home is loved and cared for. The owner was responsive, helpful, and always available if we had a question or concern. The lodge has cozy gathering spaces. The kitchen is stocked with well-used pans and anything you might need to cook for a small or large group. The location is convenient. The wood floors do creak, so you know when someone is walking around in their bedroom, but that goes along with wood flooring and the “charm” of a very large lodge. The owners have a reasonably priced van service that is usually available - we used it to go to town for evening meals as the drivers in our group did not feel comfortable driving up the driveway at night. Some might find the driveway ranges from adventurous to challenging. There are a few potholes and a couple of sharp turns, but the cars managed ok up the steep areas with the right acceleration. There are potholes and the drive can be jarring. If the van is not available, we had better luck getting a Taxi (van) than an uber. We had a wonderful time!
Excellent property, kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and utensils. WiFi was great with no issues and the views were awesome. Even saw a family of black bears two nights.
Property is perfectly located, up in the high ground of surrounding mountains but easy access to interstate, stores and restaurants. Held a business leadership retreat for 8 people and was perfect for our needs.
This was a great place for the whole family to have fun and share wonderful experiences. The access road could be a little dicey during a heavy rain but we were able to get around OK.
We have a large group that comes to Asheville every year to check out the brewery scene. The Wayward Moose Inn was perfect for us. The property was plenty big enough for the whole group and having the ability to schedule a shuttle ride to downtown was an added bonus. We’ll definitely be looking to stay here when we come back.
We had a wonderful trip with our extended family who were in town for the holidays from Europe! We cooked and enjoyed the property while doing holiday crafts and visiting Biltmore!
We loved the cabin, great kitchen, beautiful place. our driver picked us up and took us to the Orange Peel for a concert, absolutely great service. All 14 of us recommend the wayward Moose for your group or family.
