*Slaughter Beach is a world-famous birding habitat and horseshoe crab sanctuary. You can marvel at the hundreds of bird species including the endangered Red Knot as they stop to feed on horseshoe crab eggs on their way north. Most people thrill at the spectacle while others are a little horrified by the crab's primitive looks. They are completely harmless but can cause the water's edge to be littered with their shells. *Watch for the just-hatched baby turtles headed to the Marvel Preserve just behind us in early summer. Slaughter Beach is surrounded by wildlife preserves on all three non-water sides. Eagles and Ospreys can be seen nesting at the south end.
***Please note: Slaughter Beach is perfect for nature lovers and anyone that is looking for beauty and a place for peace and quiet. This is a residential beach town and can feel rustic, remote, and deserted for some folks. Others will love being away from the hustle and bustle of the busier beach towns. ***

Our 2nd trip here, perfect little cottage on the beach with fencing for our pups. Very comfortable and well maintained. Love the location and proximity to the quiet beach. Thanks for a great trip!
check in was easy and the house was amazingly clean the dog fence was perfect and safe. Beach is right past the fence and felt private with no one around. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing vacation this is perfect.
We were in the area to visit family and always enjoy the Slaughter Beach for its quiet natural beauty. The Mermaid Cottage was clean, comfortable, and equipped with everything we needed. We will definitely be back!
Lovely house. Enjoyed all the fun little mermaid touches. Talked with the neighbors. Got to see the crab cages taken out and brought in. Over all a great area. Would love to come back.

We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and hope you will someday return to the Mermaid Cottage
Our two little mermaids loved Mermaid cottage! Cute and cozy cottage - nice accommodations for our family of four. We enjoyed the quiet time on the beach & loved hanging out on the porch!
The cottage was clean and very unique. I loved the sitting area looking out at the beach. The air conditioning was top notch. The cottage had everything you need for an amazing beach day. I will definitely be back.
We had a great time. Definitely will be back in the summer to enjoy the bay which is steps away from a wonderful fenced in backyard for our little dog.
Our vacation was a quick little trip. We brought both our dogs and the house with the fenced yard was perfect. The house is clean and comfortable. We will book this house again!
This property is too cute! We had a great stay other than the weather cutting our trip short.
