About this property

Historic 1915 2BR · No Pet Fees · Central Location

Welcome to The Willow Suite — a two-bedroom apartment tucked into the rear of a lovingly restored 1915 home in Ridgedale, one of Chattanooga’s most historic neighborhoods. You’ll have your own private entrance, and downtown is just 10 minutes away.

Here’s our why: we’re an architect and a landscape architect, and we could have bought in a tidy suburb. We chose Ridgedale instead — because we love old, walkable, urban neighborhoods, and we’d rather help one revitalize than watch from a cookie-cutter cul-de-sac. We bought this 1915 house, brought it back to life room by room, and lived in it ourselves. The result is a home crafted by two people who care about how spaces feel, in a neighborhood we’re genuinely invested in.

We think that comes through in the details. We hope you feel it.

One honest note before you book: this is a 110-year-old house, and part of its charm is that it hasn’t been flattened into a generic rental. The floors creak. The windows can be drafty in winter. Heating and cooling run through a shared central system with window units in the bedrooms — comfortable, but not hotel-precise. If you love character, you’ll feel right at home. If you need everything perfectly uniform, this may not be your place.

MAIN LEVEL
- Private rear entrance — climb three steps to the stoop and step directly into the kitchen
Fully equipped kitchen (and the most charming tile floor in the house)

- Living area with cozy seating, a desk, and flat screen TV

- Full bathroom stocked with complimentary Public Goods toiletries

UPSTAIRS — TWO BEDROOMS, SLEEPING SIX
- First bedroom: queen bed and twin daybed with trundle — sleeps up to four

About the host

Hosted by Melissa Graveline

Host profile image

We're Kurt and Melissa, a landscape architect and architect who renovated this 1915 brick home and lived in the front apartment for three and a half years while hosting guests in the guest suite. Melissa fell in love with the architectural form of the building and found a clever way to create a guest suite that works beautifully. Kurt continues to spend time slowly building out the garden, which has become something of a neighborhood landmark. We know this house intimately, and we're always reachable if you need anything.

Why they chose this property

Ridgedale drew us in before we fully understood why. It has the bones of a great neighborhood — tree-lined streets, genuine architectural character, a mix of people, and an energy that feels like something is happening here. This house was the entry point for us. We bought it, renovated it, lived in it, made friends, and put down roots here. We love old, walkable, urban neighborhoods, and we’d rather help one revitalize than watch from a cookie-cutter cul-de-sac. The neighborhood isn't just where we work and host, it's where we're raising our family. We think you'll feel what we felt when you get here.
