Newer Peaceful Lakefront Cottage on Sapphire Lake! Welcome to Lake City—and thank you for considering our Sapphire Lake cottage for your getaway! Lake City is so named because it’s home to three principal lakes. Sapphire Lake is the smallest, prettiest, and quietest. (Here, you’re more likely to see loons than jet skis.)
You’ll have the entire cottage to yourself. Outside, you’ll enjoy an oversized lot with a large deck overlooking the peaceful, gorgeous Sapphire Lake. Watch the sunsets, watch the songbirds, watch the waterfowl (remember, loons are our specialty), and maybe, if you’re lucky, watch a seaplane landing or two.
There’s also a grill, fire pit, dock, two kayaks, and a paddleboat. Like to fish? Just step onto the dock or float a kayak. Inside the spacious three-story cottage, you’ll find three bedrooms—all with queen or double beds—two bathrooms, two living areas, two dining areas, a full kitchen on the main floor, and a second partial kitchen on the lake level. For your added comfort, central air has been added in late 2024. This home sleeps eight easily.
And the location? Just minutes from downtown Lake City, which fronts Lake Missaukee, the largest lake in the area. (Yes, that’s a lot of lakes for one sentence, but that’s how it is around here). Lake City has enough restaurants to see you through the week and a locally famous ice cream shop that’s impossible to visit just once. You’ll also be within easy day-trip distance of Traverse City and multiple Lake Michigan beaches.
This Sapphire Lake retreat works well year-round. In summer, it’s pretty close to paradise. In winter, when available, it’s a convenient launching pad for snowmobiling and skiing—both cross-country (at nearby Cadillac Pathway) and downhill (at Missaukee Mountain Lake City, and Caberfae Peaks in Cadillac).
Ideal for romantic retreats, family vacations, reunions, long weekends and Up-North escapes. We love this place—and would be delighted to share it with you!

From the gracious and accommodating hostess, Michelle to the cleanliness of the rental and the beautiful occasion, we were thoroughly impressed and totally enjoyed our weekend
Great location right on a quiet lake! The deck overlooking the lake was great. No upstairs bathroom despite 2 bedrooms, both with cut out walls overlooking the living room. Solid small house that was big enough for our needs.
Lots of beds for sleeping and place was clean and had everything we needed. We enjoyed the view on the deck every night. Close to Lake City for groceries and beach outings.
We didn’t have the best weather the first part of our stay but we all had a great time in this very comfortable, spacious house. Eagles, loons, cranes and northern lights all made it extra special.
Nice cottage with ample space for larger group. Cottage is set in a quiet cove with a small dock. AC works well on main floor but upstairs bedrooms were very warm at night. Basic kitchen supplies, bring your own spices. Overall nice place to spend a few days.
The cottage is roomy and very clean. We wanted for nothing when cooking. It was hot inside and out when we arrived. If the air conditioning had been on before we arrived the cottage would have been more comfortable.
It was exactly what we were expecting based off the listing. Only things that weren’t the greatest were the size of the main kitchen with minimal space for dry goods (there is a kitchenette downstairs with only sink, mini fridge and cabinets) and that there were some ants in the kitchen area. Basically anything you could possibly need is provided for you which is very convenient! My family would definitely return to this property and would love to stay longer than 2 nights.
The location was excellent, we enjoyed using the kayaks and sitting on the deck. We were also close enough for day trips to Manistee and Traverse City. The A/C worked fine and not an issue cooling the upstairs as long and we used the ceiling fans. The only downside was that the two upstairs bedrooms had wide open window openings to the downstairs. While you could not see into the rooms, the noise from downstairs went right into the rooms and vice versa. Perhaps some shutters or curtains would help? Otherwise an excellent stay.

Bird stay
Overall it was a very nice stay. Loved the location. Was a little disappointed about the inlet and getting the boats in and out among the lily pads. Felt the house was well supplied with necessities! Impressive! One evening we had a very heavy rain and water poured down the inside of the entrance door located in the kitchen! This leaked from above the door and we had to use towels to sop up the water. Also the sliding door the eavestrough doesn’t catch water from the roof and it is like Niagara Falls in front of the doir. Thought we would bring that to your attention as that could do damage to the home. Overall we had a very nice stay and enjoyed the home!!

Thank you for informing us about your experience with the heavy rain during your stay. This was the first time I have head of any problems of this type. We appreciate your feedback and have promptly arranged for a larger gutter and storm door installation as soon as current renters check out. Thank you again!

Family weekend
This property would have been great for a fall family weekend. I didn't read closely enough to realize there was no AC - but they did provide fans and luckily someone else in the group realized it and brought a few more. For the summer months - there's no breeze and lots of bugs so not ideal for leaving anything open. The lake access was a bit disappointing - you couldn't get into the water off the dock due with all the lilypads - it was very mucky. However, the paddleboat and canoes were nice to have. Kitchen is very small and ok for a long weekend but would have probably been a challenge for a longer visit. Overall, it met our needs.

We now have added central A/C to this home and yes sometimes the wind on lakes can be windy, but not all the time. There is a swimming area on the lake also for you to enjoy in the future.
Exactly what we expected. We have family that have a cottage on next lake over (Crooked Lake) and we love visiting them, but for a July 4th gathering we needed our own place to stay. Peaceful Retreat gave us that Up North vibe we expected. Property manager Michelle was great to work with to make sure everything was just right. The lake view is perfect. The lilly pads only add to the peaceful atmosphere. Would book again.
