The 'Old House' has been in the family for 500 years but was renovated in 2009 and is in mint condition. If you like privacy, you will like this. Our detached sunny and spacious cottage is nestled down an old boithrin by a river on its own 4 acres. There aren’t that many of them left. The house is on the Tipperary Kilkenny board and is only 20 minutes’ drive from Kilkenny city and Kilkenny castle. Recently renovated, this cottage epitomizes the rustic lifestyles of old Ireland. It has 2 large double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and 2 double loft bedrooms. One of the lofts is enclosed. Sleeps 8 comfortably. Washing machine, dishwasher and free wifi included. There is a front entrance and back entrance. The courtyard at the back entrance is a sun trap. If you are interested in experiencing traditional Irish music and pubs, please enquire. We know where all the gigs are. If you are interested in hiking, fishing or horse riding, it is ideal, but you can also find live theaters, shopping and restaurants within a 10-20 minute drive. The famous Kilkenny arts festival takes place only 20 minutes’ drive away. If you would like to know what real Ireland is like and how it is lived by the locals you will like this. The local pubs and shops are a 5-minute drive away. It’s the real Ireland.

What a lovely home! It is secluded yet has everything you need. We woke the first morning to glorious sunshine and could not imagine a more perfect spot to enjoy this part of Ireland. The house is well stocked and very comfortable.
We LOVED our stay at the Old House. The location was perfect for us to drive into Kilkenny and enjoy many of the smaller surrounding villages. Diane was so great to give us helpful tips about must see/do things in the area. We would definitely come and stay here again!
Charming old stone cottage which has been nicely updated. Beautiful, peaceful remote location. Has everything required for a relaxing getaway. Host Diane was friendly, responsive and helpful with recommendations in the area.
Excellent location ,close enough to whatever you need and secluded enough to switch off and relax. Beautiful home with all mod cons and extremely spacious.
Beautiful place, comfortable beds, plenty of parking. We had problems at other places trying to park 2 cars. So nice that the other couple didn't have to wake up early to move their car . We had 2 couples and our daughter in our group. There was plenty of room for all of us. We would stay again thank you Diane!
We loved the old farmhouse and the area. It was the perfect house for our family of four adults. The house was quite spacious. The house was a little isolated, you could not walk down to the pub, but there were several small towns within a 20 minute drive that had everything we needed, and the bakery less than 5 minutes away was fantastic. Diane was very helpful.
We enjoyed our week in Ireland and staying at this house made it all the more special! The layout of the house is perfect and so is the location. We used it as our home base to enjoy various parts of Ireland and returning to the house felt like coming home. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We hope to be back some day!
Big cottage with a beautiful garden in a tranquil area
We only stayed for four days but really enjoyed the beautiful garden as well as the interesting light fixtures in the house. They gave everything such a homely feeling.
The area is very calm and good for people who are looking for mostly being in nature.
If you want to go sight seeing, you should consider the time it takes to get there.
Please don’t let anyone know about this gem. So charming and wonderful. We can’t wait to come back again. Lovely country setting, but near a town with a wonderful bakery. The pictures on the VRBO site don’t do it justice. And Diane is a delight. Thanks so much!

Hi Richard, delighted you liked the old house. We would love to have you back anytime. You left the place soooo clean - appreciated that.
Kind regards Diane
Diane Lanigan and her sister Breda and her brothers Richie and P.J. could not have done more for us to make us comfortable and at ease. They provided us with every amenity imaginable and with so much good will and care that we felt like royalty. We have decided that we should love to return another time to enjoy this wonderful "Old House" and its loving owners. The location serves many beautiful sights and historic places within easy driving distance.

Dear Vince and Mary, it is us who should be thanking you for so being such wonderful guests. We hope your trip home was a good one. And it’s needless to say but we would love to host you again .
Ninemilehouse, the perfect house/location; highly recommended
Our house was truly a wonderful Irish experience. Residing in a historic, 500 year old farmhouse, and updated renovations indoors provided both the comforts of home as well as the Irish experience in the country. Home provided all the necessities (kitchen fully stocked and bath) required and was located in the perfect central location where we could daily trips (East, West, and South) to every coastal town/cliffs/castles/palaces; majority trips were anywhere from 30 to 90 minute drives. The hostess was so helpful prior to our arrival when we reached out due to a bad experience with a home further north for the beginning of our trip. Although she couldn't accommodate us earlier she helped us with new accommodations in the vacinity we were at. Our experience was wonderful and allowed us to enjoy Ireland without picking up and moving every two days. Highly recommend

It was a pleasure to host Dianne and her friends. So easy to communicate with and so accommodating. Txs Dianne hope you enjoyed it.
We were delighted with our stay at The Old House. So handy for Kilkenny, Waterford etc. but also secluded enough to really get away from it all. The property has so much space I think our dog had the best holiday of all! Would highly recommend.
Great house, well designed, great interior! More remote than we expected. More suitable for folks who like to “cook in”. Not much in the way of close places to grab a bite to eat...
A lovely country stay in a beautifully restored stone home
Our party of five greatly enjoyed our stay here. It was a real pleasure to stay in this home - everything is top notch. And the grounds are great place to go for a walk.
This house is beautifully restored with a “in the middle of the Irish countryside” feel. We had a wonderful time touring Ireland and this house was nice to come home to. We even washed our clothes and hung them out to dry! True old Irish experience!!

The old house has been in the family for 500 years. We recently renovated it. I lived in the house for the past 2 years. I just got a job in London and so I had to move. The area is very local and you will meet local people if that is what you want. If you want to be alone you can do that too. Its real Ireland
