Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. The Cairn of Vermont is an 1840s stone house located in the sleepy remnants of Bartonsville Village, now part of Chester, VT. 20 minutes to skiing and hiking, biking and the great outdoors are all around you! Less than 5 minutes to Vermont Country Store and make your way home through the Bartonsville Covered Bridge! The space The Cairn has 4 bedrooms- 1 with queen bed and 3 with full size. There is a full bath with laundry downstairs and a half bath upstairs. The Cairn has a small open kitchen-eating-living room with propane (wood) stove. I love children and look forward to hosting them soon with their adults, however that is postponed as of now as the kitchen setup has open shelves on the island which would make it difficult with children. Kitchen rehab coming soon so please check back if you are traveling with your littles!

Our stay at the Cairn was fantastic! We had a weekend family getaway during a recent arctic front and we were so cozy in the cottage. The kitchen is very well-equipped with all the pots/pans, utensils, and other accessories you could ask for. The rooms are well-sized and comfortable. The host, Felicitie, was extremely responsive to questions and flexible with any requests. We will certainly hope to return next year.
It’s like stalling back in history. From the yard to the stone cottage, it’s so wonderfully comfortable. We really enjoyed our time as did our two dogs.
Beautiful cottage with a picturesque yard and patio, I went alone with my dogs for the holiday weekend to sightsee and relax and it was perfect I’ll be back again
We started 2 nights while skiing at Okemo. It was a nice warm cozy spot to relax at the end of the day. Loved that it's a historic stone structure as well. Not to mention the covered bridge that you drive through on the way!
We love the Cairn. Beautiful, updated stone house on a quiet road with friendly neighbors. The location midway between Belliws Falls and Chester is convenient.
Property was in a great location for exploring the area. Located in a quite neigborhood making it great to get a morning or evening walk in. The home is well maintained and had everything we needed to enjoy our week. The character of this home is simply amazing!!
Everything was wonderful from the very beginning… The ease of booking, payment, check-in, property, check out, it was all perfect! The house was in a great neighborhood, very quaint, and just the perfect size for the six of us. Well maintained and clean, had everything we could possibly need. Highly recommend.
We had a lovely time staying in the old stone cottage. It was charming and comfy. We had a great time exploring the area, and enjoyed Vermont Vines wines and burgers very close by. Also MacLomain's Scottish pub in Chester. Grafton is a short drive away. Nice location. And the host was very friendly and accommodating and easy to communicate with. Thanks!
This property was exactly as pictured and the owner was quick in communicating with us in both getting needed information to us and responding to any concerns we had. We enjoyed looking up the history of the cottage's stone work and everything about our stay here and in this lovely town. Very charming and well maintained property. We look forward to possibly staying here again if our future travels bring us back through Chester, VT.
Had a wonderful stay and romp in the spring snow. Probably the best appointed kitchen we've experienced so far. House is full of character, quirks and picturesque surroundings as well as thoughtful elements for both humans and canines. Perfect location for exploring, skiing or good old relaxation. Loved the streams, covered bridge and variety of eggs available up and down the road!
The Cairn is exactly as described in the listing, which is a great thing to find. Do actually read it and make sure it's right for what you want. It was perfect for us, but would definitely not be right for anyone with small kids or mobility issues.
We stayed over Feb break hoping to hit up the ski slopes with the kids. However, there was a big storm that dumped a lot of rain/ice and after was subzero temps and very windy, so we ended up inside a lot more than expected. The house is well equipped and everything we needed was there - including an immersion blender! The bedrooms were comfortable and the fireplace in the living room was splendid while the storm raged. It was tough to get the garbage to the garbage can as the snow plow piled up the snow in front of it. We were fine to shovel as needed to make it manageable. We love coming to Vermont and would definitely like to return in summer.
