About this property

Isolated Converted Farmhouse With Heated Swimming Pool near to Canal du Midi

En Théza is a holiday home set in the tranquil Aude countryside near to the Canal du Midi. It is surrounded by fields and wildlife - quail, red squirrel, harriers, lizards - and serves as an excellent base from which to explore the Pyrénées, the Mediterranean Coast, Castles of the Cathars, Corbières and Fitou Wine and much more.

The house has been used by authors as a hide away to finish their writing but is also family friendly containing a cot and high chair if necessary. It sleeps up to ten and has two double bedrooms and a children's room with bunk beds.

En Théza's isolation means that only ADSL internet is possible for speeds up to 5 Mb/s. There is generally good 3G or 4G signal depending on your provider.

It is available for rent (both short- and long-term) throughout the year. Prices include cleaning and bedding. Please contact us through this website or on the phone number below for details. Feel free to have a look at our photos of the house and the surrounding countryside.

A beautiful tranquil spot
We arrived bang on 2 pm, dumped luggage & drove 10 min to stock up on food! We didn’t leave En Thenza until the following Friday to visit Carcassonne & the Chateau Comtal. We as a family couldn’t have chilled more, the views are outstanding & the lack of noise pollution is second to none, except the odd tractor cultivating & irrigators giving the land a good watering. The house was bigger than it looked in the photos, clean & tidy. It felt like a home & one that you could relax in easily. We swam, read, ate (very well, the Intermarche was always well stocked & the fresh produce was very good too!) played cards well into the night outside, taking in the view! We may well be back next next year if our children aren’t insisting on going on a different adventure, however my husband & I have now got a few months to convince them to go back to En Thenza! Thank you having us Rak, Lyndsay, Fynn & Hector.

Relaxation in la France profonde
The house has all the character one would expect of a newly-renovated but very old building. It is very spacious, airy, well-maintained and equipped. The pool was brand new in 2014. Everything was very clean. A car is essential, as the house is out of the village and very quiet (no passing traffic at all!). There is lots of wildlife in the vicinity and plenty of sights and activities within an hour's drive. The garden is large and child-friendly with lots of exploring opportunities. Be aware, though, that the pool is not fenced off, so children need supervsion. Bike hire is easy to find locally and good terrain for family cycling (including along the Canal du Midi). We particularly liked the Pas de Naurouze restaurant just by the Seuil de Naurouze (about 15 mins. drive) - classy cooking at very reasonable prices. A particular highlight for us was the view over the fields at sunset followed by spectacular star-filled night skies. It should be noted that there is no internet connection, although the mobile phone signal is excellent.
