Beautiful fully-furnished, 3 bedroom (bedroom 1 has a queen-size bed, bedroom 2 has a full-size bed and bedroom 3 has a full-size bed), plus queen size sleep sofa in the living room(extra linen and pillows can be found in the closet by the full bathroom), 1 1/2 bath "country getaway" home in Talcott. Family and pet friendly! Prior approval and pet fee (one time $35 per pet ) required. Recently renovated with all the comforts you would expect. Easily reached, up on the hill from the main road (Rt. 3 & 12) through town.
Children and adults are thrilled to sit on the deck and watch the trains go by. There is a railroad crossing at the bottom of the hill and you will hear train whistles throughout the day and night, which may be loud and disruptive. Across the road and the railroad tracks is the beautiful Greenbrier River, great for fishing, tubing and swimming. There is public access for launching your boat, canoe, raft or kayak within walking distance from the house. Enjoy John Henry Days in July and watch the parade from the wraparound deck as it makes its turn.
It is a short 15-30 minute drive to Pipestem State Park and Bluestone Lake and State Park and Greenbrier State Park to the east. Stay here and visit the historic Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, a short drive away. Play golf where the pros play at several other area golf courses. Attend the West Virginia State Fair in August.
This area is good for all seasons. Watch the West Virginia Hills change from lush green to glorious shades of red and gold in the Fall. Short 35 minute drive to Winterplace and 1 1/2 hour drive to Snowshoe Mountain for skiers and snowboarders. Celebrate holidays with friends and family.

The house was clean. Didn't like the cameras but understand why they were there. If you just want to chill out, this place is for you. The grill Didn't have gas but Sue made it easy to get. She was a welcoming hostess and I would recommend it. It was peaceful, but you got surprised by the train whistle.

Thank you for your review. I appreciate your understanding about our outside property cameras. They are for security purposes, mainly for when the house is not occupied. I’m happy to supply propane for the grill. I’m sorry the train whistle was bothersome. As mentioned in my description, the house is across the road from a railroad crossing, so train noise may be annoying for some. I hope I will have the opportunity to host you again.
This property is very clean and pet friendly. Communication was a breeze and the check in/out process was easy. The beds are not comfortable and are extremely soft, you end up sunk in the middle of the bed so might be harder for old folks to navigate that. Other than that this is a great place!

Thank you for your review. I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay. I’m sorry you found the beds uncomfortable as the mattresses are relatively new (6 months) but may need to be firmer for some. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. I hope you will allow me to host you again.
Second visit and hopefully not the last. My roots are in this area and I love coming back and staying at Up on the Hill. As before, all was perfect. I have nothing negative to say.
The house was beautiful and super clean. Wonderful place to stay.

Always love this area ! We took our parents back for a ramp festival for the second time in as many years. Having roots in the area, this property checked all the boxes!

We were pleased to host Leo and his wife and are happy that they enjoyed their time there. We truly appreciate how clean they left the house and look forward to their next visit.
Was a great location in between Hinton, Lewisburg, and National Park. We enjoyed sitting on the deck listening to the trains and watching the river. Walked across the street to walk down a road along side the river. Home felt like a modern version of grandma’s home, made for nice cozy afternoon/evenings of unwinding.
