About this property
Private 1 bedroom apartment with private deck and sauna close to ski resorts
This cozy but spacious apartment is the upstairs unit of a renovated barn built in the early 1900s. Recently refurbished, it retains charming features of the original barn. There is a newly redone bathroom, large couch, full kitchen, and TV. This apartment is located in the ground floor of a renovated barn, originally built in 1900. The bathroom was renovated in 2023, to make a beautiful modern space with shower and tub, and new flooring was installed in the main living space this past year as well.
The open kitchen boasts a 4-burner electric stove and oven, microwave, full sized fridge, coffee maker, and all the basic cooking implements necessary.
The bedroom has a king-size bed, a large dresser, and a large closet.
If there are more than 2 guests and one would like to sleep on the couch, bedding will be provided.
The sauna is custom-built, cedar-lined, wood-fired, and only 4 years old. It is located right outside the front door on the patio. Wood and fire-starting supplies are provided, and you will have unlimited use during your stay.
All living spaces, sauna, and deck are private. In the shared backyard there is a garden and a nice lawn area. Other things to note: If you want to sauna we will give you a walkthrough of the rules and how to use it, and we will get it started the first couple of times to make sure that you know how to use it.
Please note that the sauna takes about 90 min to reach temp, and while we are happy to have it ready for you on arrival if our schedule permits (it usually does), we do require advance notice.
No smoking, vaping, or e-cigarettes allowed inside. Smoking, vaping, e-cigs allowed on deck.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Very nice property with views of the woods.Main reason for the stay was to use the wood burning sauna; which was a wonderful and healthy experience. Definitely would book again.
I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of this place, It was a nice touch to find some coffee, and other hot drinks so I didn't have to run too the store, and a soak in the tub with Epsom salts was great. Hosts were quick to respond to questions and their small pet dog was cute!
This was our second stay and it was even nicer than the last time! We will definitely continue to keep this place in mind for future visits. Thank you!
I really liked the feel of this place..if you want cozy and comfortable or just hate hotels like I do this is a perfect little place. Very much cabin vibes. But you still feel connected and not far from anything. Everything was very clean and comfortable.
Brianna and her friends were great guests! They left the place super duper clean, were quiet and respectful during their stay, and followed all house rules. We’d welcome them back anytime!
My adult son and I had a great stay at this property.
Very clean, well managed and perfect setting.
We will definitely be back.
Thanks, Melissa. We really enjoyed our stay.
Our host communicated that there was a cancellation and we were able to get the place as we needed after all.Everything worked out well. The wildlife is abundant…
The apartment met all of our needs and was super easy to check in and out of! It was private and had plenty of space for our little family. It had a bit of a firewood/smoke smell, which was definitely not a bad scent, but may just be something to keep in mind if you are really sensitive to that type of thing. We loved seeing the chickens and the very friendly cat who greeted us as we came and went, which made for a fun and memorable stay!
Thank you for all the amenities and the lovely home and sauna. The Kalamazoo Visitor Center is awesome. I'm enjoying it now. Please take the screw out of the bedroom window so that it can be opened. An exit in case of fire is necessary. Plus a woman with menopause needs air flow. Thanks again for everything
It’s a unique converted barn built in the 1908s??? Converted in 1980s. Made nice recently. The barn beams/frame were cut by the original “homestead” from the settlers in the 1830s-1880s time when this area was being settled. They tore down there log cabin home and used the logs (and crazy big rocks dragged by their horses…) to “frame” the place. Back in its hayday you would be able to drive thru (the barn was a literal drive through hay pickup!!!) with your horse and carriage and get some hay!!! Half of Plainwell, and many people we have met on facebook marketplace tell me they have slept here, there, in our bedroom, guest room, attic, silo, or somewhere on our lawn! Come stay and relive the good times lol!!!
