GOLF CART ACCESS
If you rent a golf cart, we have a private path leading down to the "lower road," aka Queen's Highway, where we have a parking area. The parking area, which is outside the gated settlement area, provides quick access to the middle and south end of the island (rental carts are NOT allowed inside the settlement except by special arrangement with the Town Council). It's a short walk from our house and down the path to the parking area.
NO GOLF CART? NO PROBLEM!
If you’re unable or unwilling to rent a golf cart, rest assured that our location is ideal for getting around by bike or on foot. Three of the main restaurants on the island are within walking distance, and the other three offer shuttle service.
ADDITIONAL BOOKING DETAILS
- Requests for stays under seven days will be considered on a case-by-case basis, but the norm during holiday weeks and peak periods is a seven-day minimum.
- Christmas and New Year’s are separate full weeks with mid-holiday changeovers unless otherwise agreed.
- We’re unable to accommodate Sunday arrivals unless agreed to in advance. As for Sunday departures, guests will need to manage their own departure logistics.
SOLAR POWER
The house is powered by a new roof-mounted 15,000 kilowatt, 27-panel solar system that runs everything except the dryer and the air conditioning, both of which are powered by the local electric utility (BPL). The solar system avoids the unpredictable and disruptive power outages that are an unfortunate part of life on the island. BPL automatically recharges the solar batteries in the unlikely event that their charge falls below 20% (overnight charge levels typically remain above 75% and are back to 100% by late morning). The house has a manual generator to replenish the solar batteries in the unlikely event of an extended outage and overcast weather -- something that has happened only once.
DOCK SPACE
Private dock space is available nearby upon request for an additional charge.
LONG HISTORY
Hope Chest has been a beloved vacation getaway for a US family since 1959. The original bungalow-style house was destroyed in Hurricane Dorian in 2019. Many items were recovered and re-used in "Hope Chest 2.0." The new house features modern conveniences and is more than twice the size of its predecessor.
MOBILITY ISSUES
We have one of the highest locations in the settlement area, roughly 40 feet above sea level. This gives us wonderful ocean breezes and spectacular views, but it may be problematic for individuals with mobility issues. Please reach out for more information if this is a concern.

About the host
Hosted by Chuck Goodrich
This special property has been in our family since 1959 and we love to share it with others who appreciate the beachfront location, the Hope Town experience, the privacy and the family-oriented nature of the home.
Why they chose this property
The beaches, people and attractions on Hope Town are truly special. It's elegant without being pretentious; high-class but informal. The "Upalong" area that we're located in is secluded but convenient to the settlement and harbour areas.
What makes this property unique
We're close to the downtown "settlement" area, yet tucked away in a private beachfront setting. The house itself is designed to bring people together while providing ample opportunities for solitude and privacy. And the construction and amenities are new.
