This spot is a piece of paradise. It is remote and private, and is a great place to unwind and relax and enjoy the surrounding area, the beach out front, and the amazing wildlife. The caretaker is so sweet and helpful. The kitchen is well equipped and the design of the house is great for open air living. We can’t wait to go back.
We had a lovely family vacation! Chicky was fantastic and answered all of our questions and was helpful! Laura’s meals were delicious! Highly recommend!
I have stayed in this house at least 4 times over the years and is really the perfect place. Tons of wildlife around the house, perfect beach right in front, not too fancy but not shabby either; it’s just right! I try to go at least once a year.
My friends and I spent five nights at Casa Arenosa - what a wonderful property. Highlights included the beautiful open concept buildings, outdoor shower, private beach, warm sea, plunge pool, plenty of hammocks and loungers to relax in, dozens of Macaws that make their home in the trees on the site. So private and rustic but accessible by foot to many nearby activities: yoga, surf, fine restaurants. You don’t need to travel anywhere else to view tons of native wildlife. Chiky the site manager took such good care of us, making sure we were safe and comfortable. He guided us on an amazing hike up to the King Louie waterfall, and introduced us to Jaco who was a fantastic concierge and made all tour and travel arrangements for us. Laura and Gabi came in to cook us dinner one night and it was the best meal we had in Costa Rica. The property owner was also really responsive and kind - assisting us with travel arrangements. We had an amazing time. Thank you

We loved hosting you and look forward to your return! Come back soon!
The place is incredible, the sound of the jungle, walking distance of the beach, the architecture of the house is divine. The vegetation is wonderful. Chiqui was very kind.
We loved our week stay at Casa Arenosa. Beautiful secluded spot in the jungle just steps away from the beach, monkeys outside our window, stunning open air house just as described in the listing. The plunge pool was a great way to cool off in hot afternoon air. And loved the local restaurant/ bar, Martina’s - festive atmosphere and delicious food. Would definitely come back
Thanks to the wonderful owner, the fantastic onsite property managers, and the magic of Casa Arenosa and its surroundings, this trip filled one space on my bucket list and created many more. From the outset, the owner was a pleasure to work with - highly personable, informative, patient ... helpful in every way. Our local property managers and their family were also wonderful - welcoming, friendly, and ever-helpful. They tended our every wish, put us at ease, made our trip fun, and filled it with good local flavour. Casa Arenosa itself, is exquisite. Ecofriendly, gorgeous, comfortable, and everything we could want. I never imagined I would actually see so much local wildlife and jungle...And sleep every night to the sound of the waves. Ooo I would return in a heartbeat. Thanks all for helping to make this happen!

Tranquility in the Jungle
Our little family of three had a wonderful week of surfing, hiking, family time cooking in the kitchen, cool dips in the cool pool, scarlet macaw/toucan/hawk watching from the pool, animal loving, tide pool exploring, hummingbird communing in the shower, crab feeding, monkey watching, hammock swinging while checking our animal field guides, peaceful sleeping in the crisp nights... so much magic here... We were there with our 3 year old and it was safe, clean and perfect for all of us. Being unplugged from it all, yet with wifi and reliable power is such a luxury in the jungle and the caretakers make sure you are as comfortable as can be... we just wish we had invited some friends to share it with... the property is huge and would be fun for big parties. In love with Matapalo. Casa Arenosa and it's caretakers, Michael and Ces are wonderful, helpful and super knowledgeable. If you are considering, you can't go wrong with this special spot.
Fabulous place, completely immersed in wildness. Everything you want to see and hear is right there.
Chiky and Laura are great, super helpful and are tied in to all the things going on around in the area. The place is beautiful and we never wanted to leave!
We stayed at the Casa Arenosa for two weeks in early December. The house was as described, with an open-air layout that was very comfortable. Shopping at the B&M in Puerto Jiminez was quite good and we were able to bring most of the food that we needed with us. We got used to the rough condition of the dirt roads that lead to the house and did a couple of trips back and forth even though it took an hour one way. Chiky was very helpful in arranging outings and maintaining the house and Laura kept it spotless. There was plenty of power to keep our devices charged and the internet was surprisingly fast. The kitchen was well equipped but make sure your trash is secured because the animals do raid it at night. We did hikes into Corcovado National Park, fishing and boating trips, ate at Martina's and Encanta La Vida, and had drinks at Lapa Rios. Yoga classes at Encanta were fabulous. For me (a photographer) , the best part was that animals kept showing up right in our yard - scarlet macaws, all four species of monkeys, and a wide variety of birds and insects. Do bring flashlights as nights are very dark and the lighting is dim, and don't be surprised if you find insects or a bullfrog in your room at night. The sounds from the beach are very soothing as you fall asleep and the howler monkeys will wake you around dawn. The house is very remote and if you enjoy that you'll have a great stay.
You won't regret staying here. Its truly the perfect place to stay with family or a group of friends. The house is beautiful and well cared for and the surf is just outside the door. The caretaker is also wonderful. You won't want to leave!

We loved having you all! Come back and visit soon!
It doesn't take long to switch gears into relaxation mode at Casa Arenosa. The direct access to the beaches at Backwash & Pan Dulce was our favorite part. Chiky & Laura are wonderful hosts and make sure to take advantage of Laura's cooking! It will not disappoint! You do have to stock up on your own groceries for this...but it is well worth it! We also utilized the tour guides at Lapa Rios for a guided jungle tour and went to have lunch there a couple times. Casa Arenosa is a special place to truly immerse yourself in the Osa jungle. Do not bring heavy clothing jean material, etc. Light clothing, dresses, tank tops, etc., light material everything.
Incredible location for a fabulous surf trip and family time
We loved our stay here and all the wildlife interaction! It was very comfortable and the beach is just in front! The grounds were lush and well kept. It needs a little updating but fun was had by all and we would love to return again!! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
Place was amazing. Property was beautiful, the owner Sandy was a pleasure to deal with and the property caretakers, Chiky and his wife Lara, were amazing. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up.
We absoluteily loved the property. The grounds were amazing and the beach was just steps away. The owner was great to work with and extremely accomodating. I can't wait to go back!! Thanks for a great birthday weekend.
Best location on the best beach in the best area of Costa Rica. Perfect place. Graciasssss!

Casa Arenosa
The location is amazing right on Backwash beach. I got to check the waves by walking 20 feet when ever I wanted! The onsite care takers were very responsive to our needs and very sweet. The home is a bit rustic being open air but we got used to this and started to appreciate being literally in nature. Sleeping at night in the mosquito nets with all that open air and sounds from the ocean and nature was truly magnificent. Amazing beauty! Thank you
This amazing open-air house is eco luxury at its best! The sprawling design of the house has nature in mind with many places to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The kitchen has everything that you need t cook a gourmet meal and a sprawling dining area. The house is on, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. The caretaker is always available when needed and keeps the house clean. We hope to stay there again some day!
Casa Arenosa met and exceeded our expectations. The house is gorgeous and very well maintained. The onsite caretakers are fantastic, and helped us to navigate all of our adventures. The best part is just taking in all of the beautiful wildlife and nature around the house. We already looking forward to our return visit.
A hidden gem and great surf right in your own backyard
Wow...is all I can say to the experience we had at casa Arenosa. Started out with a walk through and good info from Chiky the caretaker. Waking up to macaws and the most beautiful sunrise on your own private spot on backwash beach. Good surf to definitely to take advantage of. Standing in the shower while watching spider monkeys, humming birds and macaws...enough said. Our 3 day stay was on point for a beautiful and unforgettable Osa experience. Cooking in the outside kitchen was where all of our meals happened. Make sure to get everything you need before you arrive..however a drive into puerto Jimenez during our stay was always amazing, never hesitate to pull off on that random beach road. Make sure to take the 30 minute walk (or 10 min drive) to Matapalo, another beautiful spot in the Osa and also great surf. Driving up to Corcovado was a adventures trek but totally worth it,. A true old style costa experience. Chiky will take care of you for whatever you need and communication with sandy was so easy. This was truly open air outdoor living at its finest. This property is absolutely stunning.. oh and sharing leftovers with hermit crabs was just bonus haha.

Why they chose this property
My husband and I traveled the world looking for a place to grow roots. When we came to Matapalo, we found our paradise. It is the most beautiful and alive place we have ever been. The wildlife, jungle, beaches and ocean are pristine. Matapalo makes you feel alive! It's a place to connect with nature, each other and yourself. You can also choose to either relax and lounge, or have a fun filled action packed adventure. In the area, there is abundant bird watching, exotic animals, beautiful jungle, river walking, waterfall repelling, tree climbing zip lines, swimming with dolphins, yoga, massage, facials, and the close by Corcovado National Park.
Also, the community of people who live in Matapalo are equally amazing. They are genuine, engaging and uplifting.
We feel blessed to be a part of life there, and are happy to share our paradise with those who can also fully appreciate it!!
What makes this property unique
Our piece of paradise is especially unique because it lies where the rain forest meets the ocean. You can walk out one side of the house and take a dip in the ocean or stroll along the beach - or walk out the other side into the jungle!
