Just home after staying in Paolos apartment for 6 nights. This is a beautiful apartment, spotless, well equipped, everything we needed for our stay. Paolo was a considerate very likeable host and helped us with anything we needed to know. On arrival we were given a lovely welcome package, much appreciated. Lucca is a beautiful city with many lovely restraunts.Loved Da Nonna Clara restraunt and the lovely churches and buildings with beautiful architecture. We will definitely be back to this lovely Apartment in the Centre of Lucca. Many thanks Paolo and look forward to visiting again Best regards Mr & Mrs Mccafferty from Scotland

Perfect family get away
We had a wonderful stay at Paolo's apartment in Lucca; Paolo has thought of everything and the apartment was exceptionally clean and of a very high standard. It is in a great location and Paolo was extremely welcoming, helpful and efficient. The welcome goodies were a lovely touch. We would definitely recommend this apartment and would return.

Fabulous holiday in Lucca!
We could not have wished for a better holiday, starting with the welcome we received from Paolo! His thoughtful provision of a light supper and bottle of wine on arrival late at night was so appreciated. The apartment is incredibly well positioned within the walls, we enjoyed a daily walk around the top of them and never tired of the views. Paolo has given great attention to detail, everything you need is there which was brilliant, he really wants his guests to feel at home and enjoy their stay. The bed has to be the most comfortable we have ever slept in! Highlights of the week were the early evening Puccini concerts (on EVERY night of the year in a church less than a 5 minute walk away!) and Mendelssohn concert - what a brilliant way to start the night and we can really recommend the 'Paris Boheme' restaurant in Puccini square for supper, the pasta with fresh fruit was amazing .... sounds strange but what a dish, quite superb! We shall definitely be going back to Lucca. Thank you so much Paolo!

Great place to stay in the heart of Lucca!
Paolo's flat in Lucca certainly lived up to the photos, and then some. It was spotlessly clean, bright and comfortable. The bath and shower are gorgeous, and the kitchen has everything you need. Paolo met us with a light supper and a lovely bottle of wine, just what we needed to cool off from our journey. Lucca is right at your doorstep, all the Piazza's are within easy walking distance, and the historic wall is wonderful for an evening's stroll. Paolo is a warm, helpful and caring host. We would absolutely recommend Paolo's lovely apartment in Lucca and hope to visit again one day. Ciao!

Relaxing
This apartment in the walled city of Lucca is just my family needed. We were at the end of our month long vacation in Italy and to finish up at Santa Croce apartment was such a pleasure. The apartment is very clean, and with everything that you need - stove, large kingsize bed (very comfortable), large fridge, TV with multi lingual station and the best thing a WASHING MACHINE!!!! Fantastic location but sometimes can you can hear the street noise but this was more with Friday and Saturday night. Also Paolo is an awesome host and will help regarding restaurant locations etc. I will and have recommended this property. Thank you Paolo.

Wonderful, well-appointed retreat in Lucca's heart
We absolutely loved staying in this apartment! The location is great, being in the center of Lucca; everything is a short walk away, even the train station. Paolo is very thoughtful, providing many extras that we don't normally expect in a vacation rental - maps, tips, detailed "stuff to know" about the appliances. The Internet was great, and we enjoyed being able to watch several World Cup games on the satellite TV. All fixtures & appliances are modern, and the hide-a-bed is comfortable. Paolo is easy to work with - very friendly personality, speaking very good English, and very responsive to email questions. He is obviously & rightfully proud of this apartment. Of course, every place has some downsides, so just be aware that there is some street noise due to the location; the windows are good but don't seal it all out. As you can expect, there are stairs to apartment - so if you have a hard time with stairs, look elsewhere. The beds are on the hard side, but this is typical for Europe - none of the places in which we stayed had what we Americans would call "soft" beds. Overall, highly recommended - we stayed in five different Italy lodgings, and the family agreed that this one was our favorite!

Cozy and calming appartement in the city center
Paolo's apartment was the perfect place for our trip to Lucca. It is located in the heart of the city but still it is not noisy. The apartment has got everything you need and a little bit more - ranging from air condition, TV and DVD to white wine and pasta. The rooms are very clean and nice furnished with even Florentine mosaic in the bathroom. Paolo is very nice and also provides a leaflet with all information you need.

Paulo's apartment was the perfect place for us to stay during our visit to Lucca! It was nicely decorated, with color and brightness. The view from our eating area was nice, looking out over rooftops. The bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of space in the bathroom. Paulo was a most gracious host, and went above and beyond to assure our stay was pleasant! Good location, interesting street below with all the sites and fun of Lucca close by! Grazie, Paulo!

Wonderful apartment in the center of Lucca
This apartment was the first I've rented through HomeAway, and was better than the picture suggest! Paolo was very easy to work with, both through the reservation process and while I was in Lucca. He checked in to make sure all was as I expected, and didn't hesitate to offer help in any way he could. The apartment is very centrally located - the first night, I heard drums & horns, opened the front shutters to see the parade celebrating Lucca's Festa Patronale go by. Everything is in easy walking distance, but this location was particularly good, as there is a lot of life on the street at night, and therefore it was quite safe for a single woman. The apartment itself is a gem - even more beautiful than the pictures show, light & bright & airy, but also with the shutters so that the heat of the day could be kept out. It had everything I needed for an extended stay, including laundry and a fully stocked kitchen. The materials used in its renovation are in keeping with Tuscan style, but of good quality, and beautiful. Paolo also leaves a lot of information so that travelers with all types of interests can find something to suit their plans. There is also a small library in English and Italian, for those who would like to kick back and rest/read. One small caveat, for those who are very light sleepers - since the apartment is on a main street, with cobblestones and brick/stone buildings, sound can echo, so if you are easily awakened, a pair of earplugs would come in handy. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would stay here again!

Central apartment in Lucca
This apartment is very handy for all the action of Lucca. Steep narrow stairs allow you to eat more pizza and ice cream and Paolo is so lovely. He helped us up and down with our cases. We were welcomed with delicious food and wine and flowers. It was really nice after a long day traveling. The apartment has all you need to prepare food at home if you want but there are heaps of good restaurants within walking distance. We recommend"CantineBernadine" on ViaDelSuffragio. There is a washing machine and a cute little clothes line out the window. It was all very clean;nice bathroom and comfortable bed. We enjoyed our stay. We would have liked a fan in the bedroom at night when the windows were closed, that was the only complaint.

Central Lucca apartment
Very clean, comfortable apartment right in the centre of the medieval walled village. Steep, narrow steps, but Paolo helps with the luggage and good to get some extra exercise to counteract all the ice creams and pizza. Paolo was so welcoming with food and wine and flowers which we really appreciated after a long day of traveling. Very handy to have a washing machine. This apartment has all you need for self catering and is close to all the action, shops, etc. We ate at "Cantina Bernadine" on Via DelSuffragio which was a fantastic little restaurant and very reasonable. The bed is comfortable and plenty of hot water. Free wifi was very handy and there is a desk area in the living room to use for computing, etc. It can be noisy at night if the windows are open and a fan would have been good to have in the bedroom. We enjoyed our 4 nights in this apartment.

Beautiful relaxing apartment in Lucca!
We arrived in Lucca, after a difficult journey involving train strikes, late buses and lots of rain,so it was great to arrive at the apartment to a friendly welcome from Paulo, along with some food, a cold bottle of wine and roses. The apartment itself is lovely, clean and beautifully arranged, with a large sitting/ dining room that gives you space to relax after a long day site-seeing. We stayed in and cooked for a couple of nights, after buying supplies from the wonderful local shops and all the kitchen utensils that we needed were available. The apartment is centrally located in Lucca and you feel very much part of this beautiful city. It is a lovely place to wander around in , with grear restaurants, particularly after an evening stroll around the walls. If you want a relaxing holiday with space in a beautiful apartment, I would highly recomend staying here. It was the perfect start for the first week of our holiday

Lucca part 2!
I have just written a review but after reading the others I also want to add that yes, it was very very clean and the bathroom is a great size. A big big sink and a wonderful hot and power ful shower. The lighting in the bathroom was also perfect for doing my make up. We were woken by noise on the streets but not too early and it was nice to hear Lucca waking up. It meant it was time to get up and head out for our morning latte and brioche across the street. Enjoy.

Lucca
My husband and I have spent a lot of time in Italy, on holiday and we have both lived in Italy so we have been to and stayed in lots of places. We both recommend this apartment 100%. The photos don't do it justice, it's beautiful. It's also in a perfect location and a lovely retreat at the end of a day exploring. The kitchen is well well equipped but we didn't actually use it as there are so many tempting restaurants to try. We also had breakfast each morning across the street in a lovely bar..and the price seemed to get cheaper by the day. Paolo was wonderful and helped us settle in and booked a taxi for our departure. He was really helpful and also speaks English very well. He's friendly and wants you to have a wonderful time, which we did. We stayed in Lucca for 3 nights which was enough time for us and definitely enough time to explore everything. We also did a day trip to Florence in this time. For your information: It is quite a climb up a lot of stairs to get to the apartment. Have a great time! (We are 31 and 32).

Wonderful apartment in the heart of Lucca!
We highly recommend this wonderful apartment in the heart of Lucca. It is very well equipped, comfortable, nicely decorated, and super clean. Paola was very welcoming and helpful - the local treats and wine he provided were such a nice surprise. The apartment is very conveniently located within the walls of Lucca, with wonderful shops and restaurants on the streets below. It was easy to use Lucca as a base to explore the sights in Tuscany via train and bus. We had a wonderful one week stay and truly enjoyed the apartment.

A great appartment in a great location
My husband and I spent 2 weeks in Lucca in Aug/Sept 2010. We had never been to this part of Tuscany before and we were delighted by what we found. Paolo, the owner, had thought of everything we would need during our stay - the flowers, food and wine on arrival was unexpected but very much appreciated. The apartment was spotlessly clean, very well appointed and quiet even though it is in a central location. There are lovely shops selling local produce just downstairs from the flat and a supermarket is only a 5 minute walk away. Lucca also has a fantastic range of restaurants and cafes to suit all pockets if you want to eat out. Having internet access was a bonus especially since we decided to visit the Cinque Terre on Paolo's recommendation and were able to pre-book accommodation there via e-mail. Paolo had also provided lots of information of things to see and do in the local area which was very useful. The washing machine came in handy because it was unseasonably hot when we were there so it was good to be able freshen up some of our clothes. Lucca is a beautiful town with lots to offer - we'll definitely be going back !!!

Lovely centrally located Lucca apartment
The apartment has been excellently renovated with all modern facilities to make your stay very comfortable It is clean and well maintained. In fact my partner and I could not think of anything that was missing. The shower is very powerfull which for me is a must. As they say location, location, location and as you just went down stairs, opened the front door and you were in the centre of town it could not be beaten in this respect. Lucca is a wonderful place to wander around, dine and generally relax. Florence and Pisa are easily visited using the excellent inexpensive trains. I would recommend hiring a car (which we did not) to visit the hillside villages as we found it very difficult to get information/timetables from rude bus depot staff and the bus companies web site. Last and not least I would like to thank Paolo (owner) for excellent service, providing information and a warm welcome . Also good luck with the other aparment he is renovating opposite this one. I highly recommend this apartment.

Lucca found the best apartment
We stayed in Lucca for 6 nights. It is a lovely town surrounded by a 4km wall on which you can walk the full length, with interesting narrow streets where pedestrians "rule". Many delicatenesses sell all manner of bread, cheeses, wine and salami etc. The people are friendly and in looking for gluten free food for my wife who is a coeliac, we met a shop assistant are who had a similar problem, she then directed us to a number of restaurants which served G/F food. Lucca has great restaurants and quality shopping for the locals and cruise ship trade but with little tourist junk. Being placed between Florence and Pisa it provides access to these two meccas without the cost. We hired a car for two days and were able to drive north to Barga and then down to the coast seeing spectacular scenery. The second day we drove to Volterra and San Gimignano. We rented an beautiful recently renovated apartment about 10 minutes walk from the station. It was on the 3 floor, but was nicely furnished, pay TV , WiFi which made the 50 steps worth the effort. The apartment was spotlessly clean with a well appointed kitchen and stylish bathroom. Paolo our host couldn't have been more helpful. He was most generous providing us with lots of local information, a bottle of local wine and some food, as he thought we might be hungry.

Fantastic apartmernt in the heart of Lucca
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful apartment. A great location for exploring Tuscany, especially Florence, Pisa and the surrounding villages of Bagni di Lucca. A well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and living area with a real feel of homely luxury. The owner was very helpful and even text to check everything was ok half way through our stay. As he knew we had been travelling through the night he had breakfast, water and a complementary bottle of wine already in the apartment. A very thoughtful touch. The streets around the apartment are packed with deli's, gelateria's and lots of designer shops, making it a very attractive place to stay. Like most of northern Italy Lucca is also very clean and retains all of its traditional architecture and charm. We had dinner in a lovely restaurant off Piazza Napoleone called Stella Polare, their sea food gnocchi and house white come highly recommended! We hired bikes for the day and did our own version of the wine and olive trail to suit our cycling ability. We found the hire shop on Corso Garibaldi to be the best value, with better quality bikes. Trips by bus to Bagni di Lucca and the surrounding areas are well worth a visit. The views across Lucca from the top of Tower Guinigi are lovely. A fantastic stay, a great apartment with everything you could need to have a comfortable stay.

Lovely, modern apartment in the heart of Lucca
We had a great relaxing week in Lucca and this apartment really made the holiday. It has modern facilities, a good bed, lots of space and the kitchen is properly kitted out so you can eat in if you want. The sofa is comfortable too and we enjoyed a couple of cosy evenings in with pasta and loads of deli extras from a number of the local shops. There are also lots of good restaurants nearby as you are right in the middle of Lucca. The landlord, Paolo, was very helpful both when we were making the booking and during our stay. Paolo provided a very useful folder of phone numbers, instructions and recommendations for food shops, places to eat and a local map. As mentioned the complimentary bottle of wine and water when you arrive was most welcome. I would definitely recommend this apartment for a hassle free stay.

Cosy apartment in central Lucca
This apartment was furnished to an excellent standard with top of the range fixtures and fittings. The property was very clean and the owner was very helpful, informative and spoke very good English. This property is ideal if you want to be in the absolute centre of Lucca and the shops, bars and restaurants it offers. Recommend cycling/walking the 'city walls' and go to a Tuscan vineyard - the Tourist Office has details on this. Recommend restaurant behind the north-east exit of the anfiteatro and try the homemade lasagne! Ps The bottle of Tuscan red wine on arrival was amazing! - goes well with Tuscan sausages bought from the next door deli - Grazie!

Central as anything
Great apartment and an incredible location. You can literally see the city centre out the window and even then its not too noisy at night. Everything you need is there including good broadband (inclusive) and its very modern and comfortable. Steps up to third floor means it won't suit all but its worth it when you get up there. Very friendly and helpful landlord too. Almost afraid to tell anyone else as I might want to go back myself. Perfect for a couple and really nice shops and cafe on the street below. Lucca even has the world's most perfect jogging track - the 4k loop of the walls - if you need exercise!

A great place to relax and explore
We stayed in this apartment Easter 2009. The apartment is in a great location - right in the middle of Lucca, but very peaceful as there is very little trafic on Lucca's narrow streets. As the apartment is on the 3rd floor, there are a lot of stairs! It is only a 10 minute walk to the train station, where there are regular trains to Pisa, Florence and the coast. Lucca has lots of restaurants to choose from, but the apartment is very close to small food stores for self-catering. The apartment has been beautifully renovated, with traditional features such as the window shutters, but with a fresh, modern atmosphere. Paolo was very helpful, and we were greeted with flowers and wine - much appreciated after a long journey. Thoroughly recommended.
