The Neighborhood:
Commonly known as “Foodie Row,” the Hawthorne/Buckman District puts you within walking distance of a wide variety of top-notch local flavors, with no chain restaurants in sight! Make new friends over vegan poutine fries and grilled PB&Js at the Cartopia food cart pod, get messy with wings right around the corner at Fire on the Mountain, share a pie at Apizza Scholls (consistently voted Portland’s favorite pizza), or opt for a fancy night out at Castagna—all within a 1.5-mile stretch.
Portland isn't just for foodies; the vibrant indie spirit of Hawthorne is alive with plenty of made-in-Oregon shops and boutiques to explore. Catch a movie at the Bagdad Theater and Pub, a revamped 1920s theater turned view-and-brew venue serving local McMenamins food and microbrews. If bar hopping through neighborhoods isn’t your idea of recreation, head up to Mt. Tabor, a 196-acre city park atop a dormant volcano vent, where you’ll find miles of hiking trails and incredible panoramic views of the city.
Getting Around:
🚶 Walking — This neighborhood sits between the Division and Hawthorne corridors, two of Portland's best streets for dining and shopping — both within easy walking distance.
🚌 Bus — TriMet Route 2 (Division) and Route 75 (Cesar Chavez) provide frequent service to downtown (~15 min).
🚲 Biking — BIKETOWN bike-share stations nearby. Portland's bike lane network makes cycling easy and safe.
🚗 Driving — Free street parking available (read signs for restrictions). Rideshare (Uber/Lyft) typically arrives in under 5 minutes.
✈️ Airport — PDX is about 15 minutes by car or a quick MAX + bus connection.

We enjoyed our stay there, the kitchen was well appointed for light meals, we brought our own coffee but most people would be happy to have the Nespresso machine stocked with pods. Very close to Hawthorne with its shops and restaurants, which is nice, but also a bit of a drawback due to traffic noise. It's a high density neighborhood with limited parking and we had to park 3 blocks away one night after returning late. The apartment was comfortable and clean overall, and had everything we needed. One suggestion for the owner would be to supply some softer pillows, I know it's totally a personal preference thing, but I found the bed pillows to be way too thick and hard.
