About this property
2 Bedroom Blvd St Germain / Orsay Museum - For Museum Lovers
CENTRALLY LOCATED on the Bd St Germain in the upscale Left Bank 7th district just a short walk to some of the world's premier museums and sightseeing. To start, the Orsay Museum and a foot bridge to the Tuileries Gardens are just around the corner...
OUR LEFT BANK APARTMENT is located in the heart of Paris on the famous tree-lined Boulevard St. Germain. Built in 1863, it still has the original marble fireplaces and Versailles pattern wood floors. Despite its old world charm, it's equipped with all the modern conveniences, including fiber optic Internet. The quiet en-suite bedroom with its queen bed and fireplace is on a courtyard. The office has a large desk and plenty of room for yoga.
A SHORT WALK IN ANY DIRECTION will take you to some of the world's finest art museums: the Orsay Museum is around the corner; the Louvre is across the footbridge and through the Tuileries gardens (we'll give you a secret tip to avoid the lines…); the Rodin Museum and others are just blocks away. In fact, we've counted twenty museums within a twenty-minute walk!
Guest Access
ACCESS IS EASY from airports and major trains stations:
From Charles de Gaulle Airport: fixed rate taxi 65€)
From Orly Airport: fixed rate taxi 35€
From: Gare du Nord: RER (or taxi roughly 20€)
From: Gare de Lyon: 63 BUS (or taxi roughly 10€)
The Neighborhood
IF IT'S YOUR FIRST TIME IN PARIS, you'll certainly enjoy being able to walk to all the must-see attractions. Place de la Concorde is just a few blocks and from there you can head straight up the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe. You can easily stroll ½ hour upstream along the Seine to Notre Dame, or ½ hour downstream to the Eiffel Tower and Trocadero, or stop along the way and jump on a tour boat. Even the Opera is a short walk across the Tuileries and on up through the Place Vendome with its jewelers.
IF YOU'VE BEEN TO PARIS BEFORE and are looking for a more leisurely experience, you'll enjoy shopping at some of the fine food shops in the neighborhood and picnicking on the Pont Solferino (officially Pont Senghor) alongside other neighbors in the evenings when weather permits, down on the quai by the Seine, in the Tuileries gardens on the other side of the bridge, or simply dining in some of the popular nearby restaurants.
IF YOU'RE IN FASHION OR ANTIQUES, we are, again, conveniently located across the footbridge from the Tuileries where events from antique fairs to fashion shows are regularly held. Not surprising, since we're on the edge of the fine antiques quarter, and the best shopping areas on both the left and the right banks of the Seine are all within walking distance, i.e. the rue St. Honoré and the Printemps and Galeries Lafayette department stores across the Tuileries, and St. Germain des Près and the Bon Marché department store straight down the boulevard from us.
Getting Around
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
BUS LINES
Buses in Paris are a clean, convenient, even pleasant form of transporation, especially from here where every line provides views of some of Paris' featured attractions. There are several right down stairs from us, including Paris' oldest, the 63, which runs westward along the Seine and across it on up to Trocadero for the best view of the Eiffel Tower and beyond to the stunning Louis Vuitton Foundation, as well as eastward down the full length of the bd St Germain on past the Natural History Museum and to the Gare de Lyon (practical if you're taking the bullet train to or coming from Provence). You can even catch a double-decker tour bus around the corner.
METRO
If you lean out the window, you can see the Solferino metro station practically across the street. It runs north through Place de la Concorde and the Madeleine, the right bank department stores and up to Pigalle and Monmartre. It runs south stopping, among other places, at the luxury department store Bon Marché (the world's 2nd oldest) and Montparnasse, all the way to the Porte de Versailles convention center.
RER
There is an RER rapid transit station (line C) below the Orsay Museum around the corner. It's direct out to Versailles, as well as to Orly Airport (short, free shuttle ride from Orly station). You can also take it to Charles de Gaulle Airport with one change (provided you're not carrying heavy luggage).

About the host
Hosted by Letitia
We are a Franco-American couple. Bruno (French) teaches film and occasionally directs one, Letitia (American despite her name) translates books (and exhibitions and screenplays) and occasionally writes one. We spend our time between Paris, California and the South of France, where we're currently fixing up a little beach cottage. When we're away we love sharing our centrally located home with others for an authentic experience of Paris living.
Why they chose this property
Location, location, location! The Seine river is right around the corner and there are twenty museums within a twenty-minute walk. And of course a beautifully crafted old building and a wonderful layout.
What makes this property unique
In addition to the museums, the Solferino Bridge, which crosses the Seine River from the Orsay Museum into the Tuileries Gardens around the corner, is our backyard. Since the banks of the Seine were closed to traffic, they've become a wonderful promenade with cafés, outdoor films and concerts and more.
