Nice views, great kitchen, very fast internet

I enjoyed the house and expansive view of the ocean. The house was spotless. Living room and kitchen are upstairs, to best enjoy the views. Shelter Cove itself is incredibly friendly. Beaches full of amiable people and mutts. I will be back.

Views and Privacy!

The views from the deck were amazing. From the deck, you have to really peer to even see another building, let alone a person. The place was wonderfully clean and a great space for a family of four. We loved the place and area even more than we expected! The drive to Shelter Cove is long and windy, but I think that's what helps make this place special. You have to want to get here to be here. Even on a holiday weekend, the town was relatively quiet and this home is only a few minutes drive to the "main" area of town.

Peaceful Gem in Shelter Cove

This was a perfect place to stay & the listing is highly accurate to what you can expect, but the owner has added a lot of little touches that really made the stay wonderful. The house was very clean & well maintained. It’s not fancy, but very thoughtful, comfortable & beautifully styled. The view from the balcony is unmatched - nothing but trees, ocean and the sky. Cell phone service is spotty, but there is excellent Wi-Fi & a large TV with streaming services. The house came stocked with plenty of extra pillows, towels & bedding. The kitchen was well stocked with lots of extras (i.e. coffee/teas, pantry basics & a large selection of spices). The bathroom was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, q-tips, & a hairdryer. There was also a small selection of books & board games! There is a wood stove upstairs & propane heaters in each of the downstairs rooms. There is no AC, but a nice ceiling fan. Additionally, the owners’ requirements for check-out are very reasonable. There is limited parking (max 1-2 cars, trailers/RV’s/boat would be challenging) and the yard is somewhat limited if you are looking for a yard for small kids or pets to play in. Neither of these were issues for us, but just good things to be aware of. The owner was great to work with before & during the stay & was very responsive. There was one item that came up during our stay (I incorrectly assumed something) but the owner went above and beyond to help us fix a problem that was no fault of theirs.

Shelter Cove Stay

My husband and I travelled to Shelter Cove for some hiking and outdoor time after a family wedding on the West Coast. We had a wonderful time and the accommodations were very welcoming and convenient to our planned activities, etc. (Black Sands Beach, Avenue of the Giants, great hiking opportunities). The property was very clean and very thoughtfully appointed. The detail and extra touches by the owner were apparent - the kitchen was fully appointed down to spices, foil, protein bars, etc. The extra touches extended to the bathroom - shampoo, body wash, etc. The level of detail and consideration was really evident. The property is not plush but it's thoughtful. Visitors just need to be aware that Shelter Cove is remote - it's on the Lost Coast! - and seems to be in a period of transition. There are a handful of restaurants within easy driving/walking distance - you just need to be aware of when they are open. There is one general store as you near Shelter Cove. It's a quiet community that seems to be transitioning and is still in flux - newer restaurants and homes mixed with older, more local homes, etc. If you are travelling with a family and staying at this property and expecting an outside play area, I would make that explicitly clear so the lawn can be prepared. We did not have children so it wasn't an issue for us. But the lawn was overgrown. But, again, we enjoyed our stay and I appreciate the owner's level of thoughtfulness.
