Wake to glassy Houghton Lake sunrises and toast sunsets from the southern shore on a roomy double lot that’s made for families. Swim right off the dock, launch the kayaks at sunrise, and let the kids run in the big yard—this semi-private stretch of shoreline gives you space to actually unwind. Designed for large families and extended stays, we host up to 8 guests, with beds for up to 14 for flexible sleeping options. Four bedrooms and two full baths give everyone room to spread out. It’s perfect for families with kids who want easy lake swimming, room to roam, and a laid-back, semi-private spot that still keeps you close to Houghton Lake essentials!
Lake life, done right Launch from your private dock, secure your boat to the mooring buoy (required; no tying to the dock), or slip out on the two kayaks for a sunrise paddle. Evenings mean s’mores around the lakeside fire pit and a big-sky star show! There’s ample parking for vehicles, trailers, and toys—bring the boat, snowmobiles, or ORVs and make the most of your lake time.
Cook, gather, unwind A chef-ready kitchen (full cookware, bakeware, prep tools) plus coffee, and basic oils & spices makes meal easy. The open living/dining area lets the kids play while dinner simmers. Quality bed linens, fluffy bath towels, and a pack ’n play for little travelers make it simple to settle in. Fire up the propane Blackstone grill for outdoor cooking, then grill out on the deck and serve sunset dinners just steps from the lake! Adirondack chairs, towels, and s’mores sticks are stocked for lakeside lounging.
Four seasons of fun In summer, spend your days boating, tubing, swimming off the dock, and exploring nearby trails and ORV/snowmobile routes. When the lake freezes, you’re in a prime spot for Houghton Lake’s winter fun: Tip-Up Town USA is just ~6 minutes (3 miles) away, with easy access to the DNR launch, ice fishing, and nearby trails. Spend the day on the ice or snow, then come back to warm drinks and movies while the snow falls outside.

Southern Shores has a great space inside and outside on the lake for family to gather. Our family had a great time at your place. We would come back again! Thank you for your great communications to help us get checked in.
This property was very clean and well stocked. We had 4 couples stay to celebrate a big birthday. We rented side by sides, had a scavenger hunt in the city, and went to several bars (don’t skip the Frog Tiki Bar)! The people everywhere we went were so kind! The house itself was very accommodating with a large dining table, plenty of couch space for our party, lots of parking space including a place for a large toy trailer, a beautiful view on the water, a fire pit, a grill, and lots of games to play. Would definitely stay again!

What makes this property unique
Our property is established as a relaxing family getaway. As curtailed in our rental agreement and house rules, our property is not to be used by groups or gatherings of guests/visitors for events, parties, reunions, get-togethers, etc. The maximum number of people, including guests and/or visitors, at the property is NOT to exceed the maximum capacity of 14 for this property - including visitors to the property. As long as guests follow and abide by our few simple and respectable house rules that align our property with this family orientated concept, guests will more than likely never hear from us.
