About this property

Bunkhouse in the Beautiful Ozark Mountains Near Iconic Buffalo National River

The Location:
The Bunkhouse sits near the Buffalo River Just 4 miles from Jasper Arkansas, 5 miles from Horseshoe Canyon, and 10 from Ponca’s Buffalo Outdoor Center. The Buffalo River, the first national river is a great swimming hole to us folks around here. Bring your canoe or kayak or rent one 200 yards down the road from where you’re staying. The dark skies and expansive landscapes are an ideal setting to star gaze and in 2019 the Buffalo National River was named the state’s first International Dark-Sky Park.

This is an occasional working farm with critters of all types so please adults only and no pets at this time.

The Space:
The Bunkhouse sits on the farm’s property with a "tiny house" layout including kitchen/dining, living room/pullout, loft bedroom, and bathroom. If it’s a ball game you must see then the 42-inch T.V. is for you, but you will probably want to catch the views and the tranquility outside at the picnic table or on the patio for that cup of coffee or evening beverage.

Things to do:
Of course…. float the Buffalo!
Experience the zip line or mountain bike trails at Horseshoe Cannon.
See the beauty of Arkansas on local hikes.
Leaf looking in October.
Spot the Elk down in Ponca Valley.
Go antiquing or hit the road on motorcycles.
Attend local festivals or just enjoy some good eats.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Gwen’s love of the Buffalo National River began as a child, camping on a flatbed truck with her parents and 6 brothers and sisters. Her maternal grandfather and the other Villines family owned land all around the Buffalo, so it was just natural to be there often. As a young adult, floating the river was like a rite of passage. Now 40 something years later she returned home as a veteran of the Air Force and wanted her growing family to enjoy this simple life. In 2022, while living in an RV (the property has a full hook-up RV site for rent as well) the “Barndominium” was built as the main residence. And a short time later an existing foundation from a previous house was used to build the Bunkhouse – a place for our adult kids to stay in during visits. This simple plot of land means a lot to us. Our pasture was owned by John William “Bill” and Orpha Villines. He witched the well and fenced the area when he was an old fella. The rock wall around the property was put back in place and we have more to do to finish trails down to the bluff and put in fencing to raise a few more critters.
