This was a very nice home right on Bass Lake. we started our day on the back porch sipping coffee and watching a muskrat in the lake. Bortell’s was a very short drive. Downtown Pentwater was very close. We drove and walked to a beach access point on Lake Michigan. Managing temperature in the house was very difficult, there is central heat and maybe a stand alone A/C unit. we were able to open windows to keep things cool part of the day, but in the heat of summer it might be tough to stay cool. We had all of the kitchen supplies we needed. Being able to store our bikes and kayaks in the garage was a great help. Plan to bring bottled water because there is a heavy mineral taste in the tap water. those same minerals left rust stains in the toilets.

No working AC - not stated before check in

I’m very disappointed to report that my group and I had a very miserable time at this stay, though upon arrival we were very excited. We arrived to a clean space, with a laid out book of instructions & information on the counter (though lacking WiFi info). However upon moving past the kitchen, we saw that there was a note on the thermostat that said “NO AC” in marker, so it was known by the host that the air didn’t work. There was a plug in “AC” unit in the living room, which did nothing to the space that had been sitting with all the blinds open in 80 plus weather. There was hot air being blasted out of the back of this unit, making the minimal cool air it was putting out front pretty much useless. There were two fans found in the closets which helped us get a little sleep, but the ceiling fans added no comfort. I’m sure a lot of people thinking about booking here are going to one of the local beaches, as we did and want a place to stay for the night that is comfortable and cool after a day in the sun. Until the AC is fixed at this space, I would keep looking. Ultimately, had we known about the lack of functional AC, we would have booked elsewhere and I think that’s why it was not stated. We are really dissatisfied that our one night was ruined by a lack of communication on behalf of the host. Our group would appreciate some form of compensation back for the fact that we had to stay in a house that got no cooler than 83 for the duration of our stay.
