Nice and quiet place to stay that felt far enough away/ secluded but also convenient to anything we needed. Quick trip to the wine trails. We all enjoyed our weekend!
We had a blast and the owner was so easy to work with. The house is clean and well stocked. Beds and couches were comfortable. There are multiple washer and dryers. The property was fantastic. We were worried about bugs before getting to the outside pond, but we never got bit once! The pond is treated and dock is sturdy. I would definitely recommend and would stay here again.
The cabin itself has a nice layout with a quaint view and big beautiful windows. Unfortunately there is no hot tub as was in the listing, the pinball machines require quarters and overall the space is no well kept or stocked.
We are a family of four and had one other family stay with us, but we didn’t have enough sheets, blankets or pillows.
The location is great with an easy drive to giant city.

Short stay
We were there long enough to shower, sleep and leave. Only 1 pinball machine worked while there; coins stuck in others. Communication was not the best, but worked it out in the end.

Some TLC needed
Pictures of property are outdated. One TV in house in main living area none in bedrooms, pool table is torn and pool cues are broken and don’t have felt tips. The fridge is not the stainless steel one pictured. Ceiling fans haven’t been dusted in years and there’s mold from multiple water leaks in home. Tom is a good guy and was responsive when we contacted him but the property overall needs a deep cleaning and updating.

Neglected potential
All in all, probably fine if you don’t expect too much. The pictures don’t really reflect the current condition which has become somewhat dingy, tired and neglected. Beds and bathrooms are clean enough and has all the features that are listed. Tom seems like a nice guy. It’s just so disappointing to see the place have such potential and expecting it to be like the pictures and then find it in need of SO much attention. Once all the fees were added in, the cost seemed really high for what you got (maybe if your group is large it makes sense…). You may very well enjoy the experience…if your standards aren’t too high.
We booked this cabin for a camp-themed bachelorette party with a party size of 12 girls. We were looking for a rustic cabin with privacy and easy access to the wine trail - exactly what we got! Communicating with Tom, the host, was seamless and helpful, as he always accommodated our needs and offered advice or help whenever needed, he was very welcoming, as was his son! We were able to decorate for our bride and use the house to its full capacity. The pond was AMAZING - we used the zipline which was a huge bonus, paddled in the paddle boat, and jumped off of the dock! The beach was clean and chairs and firepit were ready for use. The house was stocked with dishware, trash bags, toilet rolls, and towels, which made our trip far easier! The beds were comfortable and the bedding was sufficient. I will say that the house is indeed a true cabin, which means it will have some dirt and bugs that intrude, and it is perfect for those who are looking for a woodsy experience!! We had an absolutely wonderful time and would definitely stay again, as well as recommend it to low-maintenance people looking for an authentic cabin in the woods experience! Thank you Tom and hosts for making this a lovely and unique weekend the bride and her cabin crew will never forget and cherish forever!

I would skip this place
Well, this cabin is in a great location and has a ton of potential, the property has not been maintained and I would not recommend anyone make the same mistake that I did. When it rained this weekend, it also rained inside of our room and on top of some peoples belongings. In another room, the air conditioner also leaked and dripped all over a different person belonging. This property cleans to be able to handle more people than it really can and we had trouble getting everybody comfortable. It was dirty. Moldy. Not cleaned. Cobwebs. Rust. Beyond a typical, cabin in the woods. There was not even A frying pan that I could cook eggs in, and we had to go to HomeGoods to buy stuff to cook our food in. I would not say that I am bougie and I have camped in the woods and done a lot of things but this place is beyond bad compared to how it is advertised.
Truly Horrible! Am not sure if this legally qualifies as Fraud, but it should. We spent more than an hour cleaning up areas so we could stay there. Dirty is a compliment as to how we found the place. Being we came in on a Friday early evening, there were not any other reasonable options in the area to go somewhere different, nor did the VRBO rep that I spoke with that evening have any other options for us either. The owner simply told me that I could leave and get a refund, and that he has been in business for 14 years and has no problems.About 1/2 of the house was not even usable, as there was obvious water damage and it was clearlyunder "construction". The open mop, bucket, the leaves on the floor, and the partially filled open trashcan are just some of the examples of how bad this really was. Perhaps the photos advertised on the listing might have been accurate sometime in the past, but all of the overgrowth and horrible maintenance has clearly rendered them completely misleading. The property is truly a horrible representation on VRBO, who up to now has not been of any help, even thought I have two different service tickets opened with them.
This house was perfect for our trip. It is remote, so we weren't worried about playing music on the beautiful deck when we got home after an afternoon of enjoying the Southern Illinois Wine Trail. There were 10 of us total, and everyone reported that the beds were comfy and the bathrooms were clean. I would definitely stay at this location again. The house is beautiful and the scenery even more so.
I have stayed here many times over the last 10 years. The pond in the back is great for swimming, fishing, and canoeing. The back deck overlooks it so you never really feel like you’re disconnected from the rest of the group. I hope to be back next year!
Our host, Tom, is amazing. He is very helpful and responsive to requests. We found the rustic cabin to be charming and met our needs. We love the layout of the house and to have your own private pond with a beach is the best! The cabin is in the woods with insects and poison ivy near by, welcome to nature! It is next to the beach, there will be sand. The house provides essentials like laundry detergent, salt, pepper, cooking oil, and condiments. It could use a deep clean and dusting, however, the bathrooms, kitchen, bedrooms, bedding, and living areas were just fine and adds to the rustic feel. We would definitely go back again.
As soon as we arrived, we could tell the pictures online didn't depict the present state of the place. Quite grown up with poison ivy growing out of the steps, vines and weeds growing up the balcony, an old pontoon boat washed up on the side of the pond that looked like a shipwreck. The kitchen floor was filled with dog hair. We actually filled a dustpan full. Wiring exposed in the basement and extremely outdated furniture. There were 4 pinball machines and none worked. The zipline was very dangerous and wouldn't advise using. Those were both selling points for me booking the place. Never saw a fountain like is pictured in the pond. Overall we were very disappointed.

Decent stay but needs TLC done
Overall a pretty decent stay. Would have been better if the moment we got there the porch didn't have piles of clothes on it and the master bedroom didn't leak when it rained.
We had 12 people ages 1-73 and everyone had a great time. The highlight of the property i the private pond and beach. Canoes and a paddle boat are there and we brought lots of floats. The fishing was also good. The game room downstairs was also a hit.

Not what we expected
While the property owner was a nice person he was behind on alot of the property maintainance. The swimming pond was in poor shape as the filtration system was broken and made for unfavorable conditions for swimming. Indoors we dealt with burnt out light bulbs to grimey cabinets and filthy room fans. Kitchen was ill equiped...no teaspoons! Plenty of pans but not enough plates
and bowls for more than 4 people.
While the 4G signal was good it was not good enough for gaming. No cable or satellite tv and though the photos showed a tv in all the bedrooms that was not the case.
Living room seating was limited...with only a sofa & only 1 chair and uncomfortable.
The photos were very misleading!
Do not recommend!

Nice
It was breath taking with the pond the private beach and everything. Will definitely be booking again!
There were 10 of us for a weekend winery getaway. The weather was chilly so we didn't use the lake but enjoyed the view and got some nice outdoor family photos. The cabin was within 6 miles to several wineries. In the evenings we enjoyed hanging out in the open kitchen/living room area.
We had read that we should bring quarters for the pinball machines. There are 4 machines, but only one of them worked. That was really the only bummer.
We would recommend this place to any groups wanting to spend time together!
tl;dr: Amazing place, wonderful host.
This is the perfect spot for a classic family lake vacation. You have all the water to yourself, and you can’t even see other houses. Feels very private and secluded but everything you need is close by. Tom is very responsive and thoughtful, he definitely knows how to set up a good time for the kids. Set up a fire for us and hid seashells for them There are lots of water/sand toys, floats, the zip line (even I rode it, it was A BLAST), pinball, foosball, pool table, and big tv. The cabin itself is lovely, not fussy, clean and comfortable, no knick knacks for my kids to break. The coop grocery nearby had lots of delicious treats to eat. The kids unanimously voted it was better than Florida, which is great cause it is about 15 hours less driving! Will definitely book again.
