This is a great place. For what we needed, it was close to our activity, close to food shopping, and close to restaurants. Communication with the owner was awesome. Would love to stay there again if we’re ever back in the area!
Maria the property manager is very responsive and the check in process is 100% painless. This is a 125 year-old home split into 2 separate living spaces. This unit is at the front. I think it's proximity to I-70 makes it a great choice for 1-3 travelers needing a place for 1-2 nights. We are a family of 5 staying for 4 nights and it that is pushing the limits of the facility. Everything in the description is accurate, so there was nothing deceptive at all. I would just caveat that 'double beds' and no washer/dryer make an extended stay for 5 people slightly difficult. We used this as home base for our first DC visit. This cost is 50-100% lower than many units closer to DC or even in Derwood/Glenmont (furthest Metro stops) would cost. That value makes it hard to say anything bad about the place and I think my review takes the low, low cost into consideration. It is a beautiful (winding rural road) 30-minute drive into the Shady Grove or Glenmont Metro station and then an easy 30-minute Metro ride to downtown DC/mall/Capitol, Zoo, etc, which we made 3 straight days. We cooked two dinners in-house and ate from the townie restaurants two nights. You MUST go to Walkers pub, it is great. I would not tell anyone to avoid this rental, but will caveat everyone that the upstairs smells very much like a 125 year-old house, and most things have been hastily retrofitted or "upgraded"; there is low water pressure throughout, and the road noise out front is fairly significant.
While I thought the unit was ok, my husband did not agree.
We were visiting the area from Wisconsin because our 20-year-old son was starting an internship nearby. We wanted to help get him settled in at his summer residence and see where he would be working for the summer. The VRBO was only a two-minute drive from where our son was staying. The house was very close to the street. So, you could here every car and truck that passed the house. It wasn't a problem until we had the windows open at night, for fresh air, while sleeping. It was actually quite loud. There were also tiny ants in the kitchen and we killed three large black ants in the bedroom. It didn't ruin our stay, but I didn't want to prepare any meals. While working on my computer at the kitchen table, a tiny ant would run across my screen time to time. Again, it was minor, but my husband found the ants unacceptable. I informed Mariya and she was very understanding and confirmed that she was aware of them and that they were working getting rid of them. Finally, the first night we were there, there was a pipe in the hallway, right outside the primary bedroom that dripped water from the air conditioner. Again, I thought it was minor, but my husband was irritated by it. Mariya was lovely and helpful and the unit was clean.
