Oakley Inn, 3 bedroom 2 bath, sleeps 8

Our cabin in the woods sits in a hilly forest only 7 minutes from downtown Talkeetna. We have an old trail going right thru our property, meaning you don't have to drive anywhere to enjoy miles and miles of fat tire biking, running, hiking, or viewing the aurora borealis. If you want miles of groomed cross country ski trails, the Talkeetna Lakes Park is a mile away and good for a whole trip's worth of fun. Our full kitchen means you don't have to go out, but a vacation to Talkeetna wouldn't be complete without hitting some of our restaurants, brewery, and pubs. And we're happy to inform you that Talkeetna now has a bike and ski rental shop, Talkeetna Gear Shop. We have some serious winter bike trails, too. It's still a secret that we have great cross country ski trails. So if you want a quiet town with plenty of activity in the winter, head this way. If you're coming in the summer, see how many of our local lakes you can swim in (at least 8 for us this year).

We had an amazing experience! The rooms were clean and the host graciously provided ample supplies in the kitchen, bathrooms and laundry. Kids had a great time with the bunk beds and big screens. Very comfortable for 8 people and highly recommend for everyone who needs an affordable stay in Fairbanks.

We stayed two nights at this house with three adults and a ‘tween, and it met or exceeded our expectations based on the thorough, accurate listing description and photos. Communication with the host was friendly and efficient all around, and everything was ready when we arrived. The kitchen was the best-equipped we've encountered in such a vacation rental. The only thing that could have been added was a dishwasher. The hosts left a note saying the well water was excellent, and indeed it was great-tasting and cold, very cold. The bathroom layout was a bit unusual (a large full bath on the first floor, with all bedrooms upstairs and a smaller full bath next to two of the three bedrooms), but it worked fine for our group. The house has great spots to relax or read on both the first and second floors, plus a wrap-around deck giving a “deep-in-forest” sense. All very quiet. One suggestion: additional light-blocking window coverings in the bedrooms would help with Alaska's bright summer nights. Overall: We'd happily stay here again and certainly would recommend it to others.

I've been enjoying Alaska since the 90's and it's not about to stop! I love the hiking and biking and swimming Alaska offers and I try to hit one of em daily.

Why they chose this property

Thoreau Drive is centrally location between Talkeetna Lakes Park and the trailhead at the end of Comsat Road. Both fun places to bike, hike, jog, ski, swim etc. Oh yeah, swimming can be a blast on the occasional hit sunny day!
