The land has turtles, frogs, deer, fox, wild turkey and other wildlife - you will feel grounded and peaceful!

There is MUCH to do in Ottertail County including beautiful lakes, rolling hills and trees. consider bringing bikes to enjoy the MN Central Bike Trail (access in 'downtown' Dalton)! Consider swimming in one of many clean lakes and rivers. The area has local dining, bike/snowmobile trails, fishing/ice fishing, hunting, other services like massage and local artists. There is a nature center in Fergus Falls, some great local museums in Alexandra and Fergus Falls. There are swimming areas, golf courses, biking trails and many scenic byways to drive and enjoy the natural beauty of this land valued by native Americans and Vikings in times past.

This is our second stay at this property, and again, it did NOT disappoint! Such a spacious and open home, it's just our absolute favorite! The electricity went out one night, and Alison was on top of it! Just lovely! Will be back next year!
Our stay was perfect! We were looking for a homey rental where we could bring friends and family together. The area surrounding Joten Lake Acres is gorgeously rustic with rolling hills, fields, small towns, and sparkling eetl
The house worked out perfectly! This is a wonderful house and property!! At the end of a dead end road! You can’t hear anything but the local wildlife!
We had such a fantastic time staying at this property. The location is remote and relaxing. The scenery is gorgeous. There is a lot of land to wander and enjoy. The home itself is so beautiful. It was spacious for our group and had everything we needed. Thanks for sharing your home with us. We had a blast.
We loved this beautiful, spacious, quiet spot for 6 of us. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed, and we loved sitting out on the deck. The kitchen and dining/living area had tons of space so we could spread out. 3 of us slept upstairs so it was great to have a bathroom up there. We also used the washer and dryer and brought soap, but there was some already there. Alison has thought of everything and made this a beautiful, cozy and welcoming space!
What a beautiful setting and comfortable place for a divine getaway for our friends to gather. Five of us met for a little reunion and we easily could have had a couple more. The loft area with futons provided for spectacular sunrises! We absolutely loved all the attention to little details. We cooked a lot and the kitchen was extremely well appointed. Loved sitting on the huge wrap around deck soaking in the sun and listening to the birds. We can't wait to come back next year!!
The house was perfect for us and our stay. We had a great time, enjoyed the space upstairs, the TV and disco ball. The beds were comfortable and there was enough for all of us.
The down side was the oven controls. There were no instructions and we spent a few minutes figuring the oven out. The water volume was a significant issue but we worked around it.
Since my bestie moved away, with all my bonus kids, we make it a point to get together every year so our kids can still maintain their bond and we can reunite like...she never moved away. The problem was, we could never find a location that could accommodate to our big families that could keep us together. This place is truly magical. It's spacious, simple, clean, and has all the amenities to really make this place feel like home, away from home. The kids have so much land to run around and burn off that energy while also supplying tons of games and books to keep us all busy through the week.
Alison is superb with communication and accommodation and really takes the time and effort to ensure everything is ready for our arrival.
This place and Alison are absolutely amazing and we look forward to connecting with her every year to organize our annual get togthers.
We had a wonderful stay at Joten Lake Acres. The house was cozy, clean, and had a well-stocked kitchen. We enjoyed star gazing and bird watching from the porch and walking the trails on the property.
This was a trip that centered around birding and fall colors. This property offered both and was conveniently located for exploring the surrounding area.
This property is in a beautiful remote location. It was a perfect spot for part of my family to stay when we came back to the area for a family reunion. The Owner was very responsive and we all would come back in the future.
The Trowbridge Family
The property was absolutely as described and better. The kitchen was very well equipped. The views were fantastic from the deck. The house itself is full of light. A great place to get away, relax and reconnect with family and nature.
Amazing kitchen. Everything you could possibly need was furnished at the house. Plenty of seating. And the loft was perfect for our large group. … plus a disco ball.
A weekend away to relax over the Thanksgiving holiday is what we all needed and Joten Lake was the perfect spot!!! We enjoyed the kitchen and how well stocked it was for the foodies in our family. The kids loved the wide open space to explore and the excellent games, puzzles and activities. Great value for the price, wonderful hosts and a lovely experience for all types of groups or gatherings.
Great peaceful location with well stocked kitchen and open floor plan!

duck hunters weekend
great place! Husband and 2 friends stayed for the weekend for duck hunting. One futon frame was broken; he moved to another one. They had a problem accessing the house with the code that was given.

About the host
Hosted by Alison Tomlinson
Alison is a fifth generation Minnesotan and both this property in 1997 because she was inspired by her great grandmothers life as a farmer on a century farm in Cologne, Minnesota. See magical sunrises and sunsets and listen to the birds, loons, swans and see eagles soar above the land!
Why they chose this property
This property in Dalton, MN is in such a beautiful area of Minnesota with the rolling hills, large trees, and all the wildlife. I think you will love exploring nature and this rural community with farm auctions, restaurants with homemade pie and small town fairs and celebrations.
What makes this property unique
Friend and family groups will enjoy the peaceful and private building with an open floor plan on the main floor, modern kitchen, yoga loft and large deck. Kitchen and BBQ is accompanied by lots of eating spaces. The land is a natural playground for adults and children. The farm at Joten Lake Acres is at the end of a dirt road and uniquely off the grid. See nature in its natural habitat including fireflies, birds, frogs, turtles, deer in the lake and in the fields or by the many old oak trees.
