Modern family villa with large swimming pool, covered terrace and huge sea views
This stunningly designed villa, built in 2009, is situated in peaceful olive groves in the coastal resort of Specchiolla on the outskirts of Carovigno, and in easy reach of shops and restaurants. It is 20 minutes drive from Brindisi airport and 10 minutes from the beach and offers a fabulously different Italian holiday experience. The villa has an elevated outlook to the Adriatic sea with beautiful arched stone terraces and steps leading down to the pool which is surrounded by a ceramic tiled patio area. It has three double bedrooms, with king sized beds + en suites in two, and twin single beds in the other bedroom + separate bathroom. The air-conditioned & centrally heated villa has an open plan fully equipped modern fitted kitchen, dining room and lounge. The villa is set in 1.2 acres of olive groves, with figs and almond trees in a quiet rural area. A dry stone wall and fencing surround the property which also has an extensive roof terrace, where views overlooking the property are amazing. Our agent, Antonio, lives close by and is there to provide you with help and advise on many aspects of your holiday. So if you have problems or need help, please call him.
This area has such a lovely temperate climate that holidays at any time of the year are great. The temperature is mild compared with the cold British winters, and it is often possible to be sitting on the terrace enjoying breakfast in the winter, so makes an ideal early spring or late autumn break.
The early arrival of spring in March is also a wonderful time to visit. The olive groves are smothered in gorgeous yellow spring flowers, with grape hyacinths, and lilac coloured cyclamens growing wild and profusely and blossom on the almond trees that smells heavenly! Although the pool is not open until mid- May, there are wonderful beach and country walks to take and enjoy the sunny weather. It's a great place at any time of the year and can be a wonderful de-stressing break! There are so many interesting towns to visit and great places to eat,. The history of this region is extremely varied and intriguing due to the many invasions from other nations and their differing life styles. You could learn a lot by exploring the towns and villages in this lovely part of Italy, in temperatures that are very pleasant out of season and when you get to know the Italian people they make you feel very welcome indeed.

Antonio was incredibly kind and helpful with our check in. The house was the perfect size and a great space to be together. The pool is a lovely size to relax by and swim in when back from sight seeing. Altogether a great place to enjoy a holiday.
Very nice and perfectly equipped house, the pool is very big and nice and the place is a perfect location to explore many different beaches and sights!
This was a very beautiful house with a very calm location. The pool was big and warm and we had a fantastic week here. The beds were really nice and of high quality as was everything else in the villa. I can highly recommend it!
Beautiful setting, so peaceful.
Everything in the villa that you need, home from home.
Away from it all. Closest town for a couple of great little shops is only 5 minutes drive, next closest town 10mins with some lovely traditional restaurants.
Ostuni only about 20mins by car well worth visiting.
All in all a great holiday xx
Josephine's villa is just as described, lovely but without being so posh that you daren't touch anything! Her maintenance manager Antonio was very pleasant and helpful making checking in and out very smooth. The exterior of the villa is particularly nice with the lovely big pool being a great bonus. We liked it's slight remoteness because it was so peaceful.
Josephine was a really considerate owner who communicated really helpfully with extra tips about how to get the best from the area.
We had an amazing stay at this incredible villa! The setting is incredibly picturesque with views of the sea and surrounding olive groves. The pool is gorgeous and the house itself is extremely comfortable and well-equipped. We particularly appreciated the shady patio/terrace area and the air-conditioning throughout. And the kitchen was stocked with lots of cutlery, crockery etc. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here and were very sad to leave. Highly recommended.

Perfect Villa
In nearly 30 years of staying in villas, this is the nearest to perfect that we've found. It is modern with a design sensitive to the area. It has a new kitchen, decent size bedrooms and best of all a good size pool. The view of olive groves and beyond them the sea is terrific and it is secluded. We couldn't have wanted for more. The service from both the owner and Antonio the local representative was excellent.

Such a lovely review! We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and are so thrilled to hear your wonderful comments! We do try to ensure that everyone has a good time and spend time trying to improve the villa year on year, but its so great to hear you say it! Thanks a million!!
This property is a gem if you want to make day trips to see parts of southern Italy. Or just to enjoy sitting on lovely terrace overlooking the Adriatic and a beautiful swimming pool. It was pefect for the 2 of us but could accommodate another couple or two. Kitchen had everything needed to cook for ourselves. Good shopping nearby for groceries and wine. Many places to visit and games to play at the villa. We found ripe persimmons which were delightful. The host is responsive and generous sharing knowledge of the area. Highly recommended!

Lovely villa in secluded location with big pool and great amenities - table tennis and boules court
We had a fantastic time - there for 2 weeks with 3 late teens and us, so made lots of use of the pool and table tennis and they could play their music without disturbing any neighbours! The three bathrooms were also a positive, although the shower in one is very small (for a 6ft 2" 20 year old!).
Plenty of family room in the open plan sitting/dining/kitchen area and comfortable seating and dining on the terrace. Well appointed kitchen with all you need to be able to cook/serve family meals as well as both charcoal and gas BBQs outside.
The fold up beach beds were great to take to the beach and a real plus point.
Although the villa is secluded, it has easy access to main roads which quickly get you out into the Puglia region where there is plenty to see and do.
Would happily stay again!

I'm so very pleased you had a great time! In time we hope to enlarge the very tiddly shower in the 3rd bathroom as we did in the main bathroom! Apologies to your 6 ft family member! We loved having you and your lovely family stay!
The property is in a superb location with amazing views over the pool and olive groves down towards the sparkling Mediterranean Sea !
Lots of places to relax either round the pool or on the shady veranda’s , which was very welcome as we had exceptionally hot weather for early June ! Villa was very comfortable too !
Josephine is a very helpful owner and sorted any hiccups we may of had quickly through a very friendly Antonio who looks after the property for her ! Specchiolla is very convenient for a small but well stocked supermarket and bakeries too , we frequently visited a family bakery called “Dolce & Salato “ which has very helpful and friendly owner and staff too , bread and focaccia is delicious !
We all had a lovely time thank you !

Thank you for the lovely review! So happy you had a good time and liked the area. Just one little fact you might like to know, the villa is on the Adriatic sea, not the Mediteraneum.

Lovely villa in a beautiful setting, with views of the sea.
We had a lovely holiday here, with family, before our nephew’s wedding nearby.
Rob and Jo were so helpful throughout and quick to reply to any queries.
The villa is extremely well-equipped - they really have thought of everything !
We really enjoyed our two-week stay at Villa Diomedes. The location is slightly rural, but there are several towns within a short driving distance so this was not an issue. The Familia Superstore in San Vito is 6 km down the road and features specialty departments for meat, cheese and seafood, and we also enjoyed the well-stocked kitchen for home cooking.
The main attraction (beyond the well-appointed 3 bed/3 bath villa itself) is clearly the large pool and terraces with a view of the Adriatic. The natural reserve and beaches of Torre Guaceto is about 15 minutes away by bike and highly recommended - we were please to find three bikes in the cellar, since the best beaches are very difficult to reach by other means. Take the route via Contrada Bufaleria and SP 37, which is the safest! You don't want to be on SP 35 on a bike...
Amongst other drive-to attractions in the region we would highlight Ostuni (15 minutes), Lecce, Alberobello and Polignano a Mare (all 40 mins) and Matera (1H 45 mins) as the most interesting, but this is clearly a matter of taste.
Planning, check-in and communication with the owners and caretaker was easy, friendly and super responsive and definitely in the top league of VRBO!
We highly recommend this.
The villa is wonderful in a very quiet area with large swimming pool but not so far from beaches and cities centre (Ostuni for example).
Local beaches are all different and few minutes by car !
It’s a perfect location for a family or group of friends (3 bedroom, 3 bathroom).
Thanks also to Antonio and Silvana for the welcome and assistance if needed!
Definitely a place to go!

About the host
Hosted by Josephine Hale
My husband and I have loved Italy all our lives and when the opportunity came up we looked for a property that we would love to own in this country. Puglia was an untried area for us, so we took a trip with my husbands sister and her partner to explore this part of Italy. What we discovered was a lovely rural countyside, with a gentler pace of life and warm and generous people. After looking at several properties we were taken to this lovely site by a good agent, who we now happily call a friend! We fell in love with it and decided to have our villa built as close to our specification as the laws in Italy allow.. Since embarking on this adventure I have retired from my busy job as the Head of a Procurement Department in the NHS and am now catching up on millions of tasks at home that have waited too long! My most favourite past-time is painting. I studied art at the Cambridge School of Art for 4 years and have taught Calligraphy at the West Suffolk College since 1990. Now most of my paintings are of Italy! My husband retired in 2016 and now we both but look forward to our trips to the villa in spring and autumn. We manage two trips each year but spend most our our time doing the garden or working in the villa to make it more attractive and comfortable for us and our guests. We manage the bookings ourselves but have employed an Italian couple who live close by the villa to organise the cleaning, gardening, pool and maintenance and the welcoming for our guests.
Why they chose this property
Because the plot has wonderful elevated views of the sea, it is quiet, and in a rural location and the prettiness of its position among the olive trees, captivated us. In the spring the ground under the trees is covered with wonderful wild flowers and the sound of bird song fills the air. It is truly a magical place. We also designed the villa to our own specifications within the rules and regulations of Italian law, so it is ideal for a family to stay in. Many of our guests have said they prefer to stay in the villa instead of going to the beach as the pool is great, and the surroundings are extremely relaxing. We began planting our cacti garden in 2015 which we positioned down the steep bank on the right hand side of the pool which is fenced off by the edge of the pool patio. It was hard work digging and planting on the slope as we struggled to stop ourselves sliding down but with the aid of some large rocks placed strategically down the slope by our agent Antonio, we managed to plant a number of interesting and colourful specimens. Some of the rocks were flat so that they can be used as stepping stones making it easier to weed the plot.It seems to be flourishing and we will add to it every year until it is complete. We hope you will enjoy it.
What makes this property unique
It is very close to Brindisi Airport, just 20 minutes drive away and also only about an hour away from Bari Airport. It is close to the beach and to many nice coastal restaurants; it has lots of historically interesting towns. The most captivating sight are the many little trulli's that pepper the countryside. These little dwellings are now incorporated into many homes owned by Italians and other nationalities who love this part of Italy. We love the tranquility of the area, its unique beauty has enthralled us, along with the lovely weather and the friendly people. You can't fail to love it once you have visited it!
