This home is not quite ready to be a rental. PROs: good spaces, kitchen, living/dining room, bedrooms all good size. Beds large and comfortable. Lots of closet space. Plenty of TV’s. CONs: thermostat was duct taped to the wall when we arrived and was not working. A technician was sent out the following afternoon and the thermostat was replaced, but the first 24 hrs were cold, despite it being Labor Day weekend. One partial roll of paper towels in the kitchen. No other supplies besides plates, glasses, pots & pans. Dirty silverware. Kitchen cabinets with boxes in them, I assume whoever was getting the house ready didn’t get a chance to finish. No toilet paper holder in 3rd floor bathroom. No soap/body wash in showers. Front door deadbolt is tricky to lock. Owner pretty slow to respond. Neighborhood is definitely working class with a few homes that look abandoned, but we never felt unsafe. The location was very close to our event in Oakmont and close to a good coffee shop and BBQ restaurant, so I don’t regret staying here but probably wouldn’t stay here again.
This house was in an unsafe neighborhood. The house next-door was boarded up and the building (townhomes) on the other side of that house was also boarded up. Everything was rundown around there - located near downtown. This house was not safe, and my kids were scared staying there. There was a basement door to the exterior that was propped open (couldn't close or be locked) and the door from the kitchen to the basement was flimsy (one of the old doors with a keyhole and skeleton key) so anyone could break in. We barricaded it shut with a chair but still didn't feel safe. I contacted VRBO and they said they would help out but never did so we were stuck staying here as there wasn't anywhere else to go. We were worried about squatters or someone getting in. Several windows were open when we got there so the house was freezing (56 degrees). Only one bathroom had a roll of toilet paper (that was more than half gone so we ran out). He told me he would send some over right away which didn't show up (Amazon) until we were leaving so that didn't help. Not great for a rental. The flooring had a huge gap between the kitchen and the 1/2 bathroom which is not safe. It wasn't very sturdy. Looks like someone did a bad partial remodel job on this 35,000 house. The flooring looked cheap and there was paint all over the floor in bedrooms/halls, etc. This house needs to be fully remodeled and basement fixed so no one could get in from the outside. Still not a great part of town though.
STAY AWAY!!! On Friday, Sept. 26 the day of check in I received a message from the host that the first floor bathroom was out of order and that a plumber was on the way to deal with the issue. After we checked in we had left and returned a few hours later. The out of order sign was off the bathroom and the bathroom door was open. The whole house had an overwhelming smell of sewage. On the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27 I contacted the host again in regards to the smell. He informed me that the issue was fixed. So I flushed the toilet and it started to overflow onto the floor. The issue was not fixed. I informed the host again about the issue. We had then left and when we returned there was a new toilet installed. I took a shower and the toilet overflowed again onto the bathroom floor. I once again notified the host. On Sunday, Sept. 28 the plumber came to the house to try to fix the issue and the drain snake he said was not long enough to fix the issue. He did not return. The house smelled like sewage from Friday evening until we checked out Monday morning. The smell was overwhelming. The first floor bathroom was right off of the kitchen which made it even worse to try to prepare food and eat. I understand that things can happen. I contacted VRBO and they contacted the owner who claims that he know nothing about it even though they could see the conversation in the messenger. They told me to call the owner. I have tried to call him twice and left messages with no response.
