Stunning Art and gardens

This was a lovely spot and staff were nearly always immediately available to help (make sure you have What’s App on your phone). We had a little trouble getting to it initially, as Ocampo is a one way street. It’s helpful to know to access it from the Carreterra (main highway) by turning left - towards the lake- on Rio Bravo, then left onto Ocampo. The first night was really noisy with motorcycles, but quieted by 10:30 and that was the only really noisy time. Street noise is evident most of the time but nights are quiet. We learned later there was a festival in Chapala the night we arrived that involved the noisy bikes. Ocampo is a Main Street and serves pedestrians, cars, buses, and horses. There are a number of really good restaurants in walking distance, even for old folks like us. The cobblestones and broken concrete of the sidewalks are challenging but we learned to take the malecon into town center and occasionally caught a bus or used a taxi. The ads we saw featured a swimming pool but this is no longer accessible. We didn’t care but someone else might. Wi-fi is good. There is no television so we just pulled up movies on the internet when we were ready to wind down. There are many spices, herbs and condiments in the kitchen and all the appliances work well. If you like to cook, you might want to bring a knife sharpener, but there are plenty of cooking tools. We enjoyed our stay.

Lovely garden
Interesting artwork inside and out. Descriptions are in the house notebook.
First patio. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the garden as we were there in high mosquito season!

Hey there, and thanks so much for your thoughtful review. We’re really glad you enjoyed the space, the walkable location, and our super responsive team—yep, WhatsApp is definitely the way to go down here! We also appreciate you pointing out the street access—it can be a little tricky at first, and your tip about coming in via Río Bravo is super helpful for future guests. And yes, welcome to Mexico—sometimes it’s buzzing with life, especially during festivals. It usually quiets down at night, but the energy is definitely part of the experience. Just a quick note about the pool—we don’t actually list or advertise one on our current VRBO page, but it sounds like maybe you saw an older post somewhere? Totally understand how that could be confusing, and we’ll double-check to make sure nothing outdated is floating around out there. We were a little surprised by the one-star rating, though—especially since your review reads like you had a nice stay overall. If there was something we missed or could’ve done better, we’d truly love to know. We’re always looking to improve and want every guest to leave feeling good about their time at Casa de La Paz. Thanks again for staying with us—and safe travels wherever the road takes you next.
