Retreat House / privat sauna / natural pond to swim / no neighbours / lake / sea
A hidden gem nestled in the forest and surrounded by wild meadows, just 15 minutes from the Baltic Sea and a peaceful lake. This carefully preserved 19th-century farmhouse offers peace, simplicity, and complete solitude. It is fully off-grid, with no neighbours in sight.
The property includes a wood-fired sauna, a private natural swimming pond, and a traditional barn for dining and gathering. The main house features two bedrooms, a living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a bathroom with a sink and shower (cold water only), as well as a traditional outhouse toilet.
As a completely off-grid house, all electricity is generated by solar panels. Please use electricity thoughtfully and avoid unnecessary consumption. There is no Wi-Fi, and mobile reception may be limited depending on your provider.
The sauna is heated with wood. Please read the sauna instructions carefully before use. Guests light and manage the fire themselves, just as they would make a campfire.
There is a BBQ and campfire area. As well a complete outdoor dinning table and benches or a covered dinning area in the old barn with another sauna which we kindly ask you to not use as its a traditional Latvian smoke sauna which requires special rituals and care.
Induli is not for everyone. It is a place for those who appreciate simplicity, silence, slow living, and nature over convenience. There is no luxury in the conventional sense, but there is space, freedom, birdsong, dark night skies, and the rare experience of being completely on your own.
If you are looking for a boutique hotel, this may not be the right place. If you are looking for a retreat, welcome.
Winter Stays (October – March)
The Retreat House is open all year, but winter offers a very different experience. It becomes a simple, off-grid hideaway for those who enjoy slowing down and embracing nature. Please read the following carefully before booking.
Off-grid Living
The house is powered entirely by solar energy. During late autumn and winter, shorter days and extended periods of cloudy weather significantly reduce electricity production.
As a result, there will most likely be no electricity and no running water.
From November onwards, the water system is completely shut down to prevent frozen pipes and damage during the winter months. This means there is no running water anywhere in the house. Please bring enough drinking water for your stay. For washing dishes and personal hygiene, guests use bottled water at the kitchen and bathroom sinks.
The composting outhouse works year-round and does not require running water.
Heating
The living room and kitchen are heated by a traditional wood-burning stove.
At present, the bedrooms and bathroom are not heated, so warm clothing and suitable sleepwear are essential during the colder months.
Cooking
Cooking is done on a gas stove, so preparing meals is possible even without electricity.
Sauna
The wood-fired sauna is available throughout the year and includes a small relaxation room.
After your sauna session, cool off in the natural swimming pond located directly beside the sauna, a refreshing experience in every season, even in winter.
Toilet
The Retreat House has a traditional composting outhouse. It functions all year round and does not require running water or electricity.
Access
The final 500 metres leading to the Retreat House are an unpaved forest road.
During wet autumn weather, snowmelt or periods of heavy rain, this section can become extremely muddy.
If you are driving a standard passenger car, we recommend parking at the final intersection and walking the remaining distance.
Only continue to the house if:
• you have a suitable vehicle (ideally a 4×4), • you are comfortable driving on unpaved roads, • and you have checked the road conditions beforehand.
Day Sauna Retreats
During the colder months, many guests also book the Retreat House simply as a private sauna retreat for the day, without staying overnight.
Is this place for you?
Just as in summer, the Retreat House is intentionally simple and immersed in nature. It is not a luxury resort and certainly not for everyone.
If you appreciate silence, wood fires, star-filled skies, and the experience of living off-grid, you’ll likely love it here.
Looking Ahead
Winter 2026
We are planning to install a wood-burning stove in one of the bedrooms. If everything stays on schedule, it should be ready by mid-October 2026, making winter stays considerably more comfortable.
Summer 2027
A vegetable and berry garden is currently being created. Guests will be invited to harvest seasonal produce during their stay. Simply follow the small garden guide available at the house and leave a donation if you wish. If you enjoy gardening, you’re also very welcome to lend a hand.
