Though check in was only an hour late, it still left ‘some’ room for improvement. The owner said it is their first VRBO, some grace was given for the lack of cleaning and preparation that would be expected for the price paid. Without listing all the issues, the owner did try to correct some issues and gave a slight refund for the inconveniences. It was a short 2 night stay and we just put it down as “camp” style & had fun being together. I’m sure they will make many improvements before renting the space again.

The listing is not correct. There are a not as many beds as claimed in the listing. We asked to have an early check in & we’re told we could at 2 pm but was pushed back to 3 at the day of. When arriving to the house they were still inside until almost 4. When entering the house we noticed a strong smell of paint & noticed the kitchen still had wet paint & appeared like they were painting when we got here. It served its purpose as a place to stay but the house was under construction & needs some work before the next stay. Lots of things were broken like handles, doors, furniture, & the smoke detector. Hosts were friendly but not worth the steep price per night…

No keys. House unlocked. All lights on and vehicle in the driveway. No room for boat as promised. Refrigerator was filthy and full of food. Bathroom had burnt out bulbs and vanity drawers were dirty. We left because we did not feel safe there. No communication from the owner. Requesting full refund as we did not stay at this house at all. The owner also did not disclose that he lives there part time as does other members of his family. When he finally responded to me in the 3 way call with VRBO, he started cursing. This listing should be removed.

The area offers plenty for families to enjoy—like Arnolds Park Amusement Park, mini golf, go-karts, and the beautiful bike trails that wind around the Iowa Great Lakes. Whether you’re boating, fishing, or simply enjoying time by the water, Spirit Lake is the perfect place to relax and reconnect.

What makes this property unique

The property sits across the street from the lake. We have private boat ramp — does not include a private dock. We have space to store a boat and trailer on the side of the house.

The wildlife is spectacular here. Turkey, deer, pheasants, mourning doves are commonly seen on the property.
