The cottage was lovely—nicely appointed, super clean, and the perfect size for my needs. The fenced yard and easy river access were great, and the location was very quiet. Cassie, the host, was friendly and communicative, and I appreciated her allowing me to bring my two Vizslas. However, one day while my dogs were calmly playing in the yard, the host’s two large dogs were let out next door. They began barking aggressively through the fence. I get my young dog into the cottage and am going back to do the same with my older girl. Then the two dogs broke through the gate and chased my older dog around the yard. They made contact multiple times before I was able to intervene and get her safely inside. Thankfully, she wasn’t physically hurt. An older woman, the host’s mother, attempted to help but was unable to control the dogs; I had to use treats to lure them away. This was a terrifying incident. I suspect the host’s dogs use the cottage yard when it’s vacant and are territorial. If my dog had been reactive, it could have ended much worse.I struggled with how to rate this place. It’s a great cottage and Cassie is a good host—but if you’re traveling with dogs, I strongly advise caution. The neighboring dogs are a serious liability, and the current setup is unsafe for guests with pets.
