Beautiful and serene vacation retreat

We have stayed at the wilderness acres on Bear Lake cabin multiple times and this year was by far the best. The renovations that have been completed are truly amazing while still honoring the original cabin. The attention to detail makes this cabin so comfortable and serene. The fishing was great and the loons visiting twice a day sure added to our experience. Robin is an amazing host and responded to our reach out so timely. We are already planning our next trip there!

4th of July 2026 Vacation

This is the second time our group of 4 has been here. The first time was 3 years ago and I cannot say how much it has changed for the better. The recent total renovations are absolutely breathtaking. The cabin is clean, lots of windows that allows unobstructed views of Bear Lake and the forest. Everywhere you go the windows lets you enjoy every aspect of this property. The kitchen is fully renovated as well and stocked with everything you would need. Lots of fresh towels and laundry is available. The new landscaping is perfect and beautiful. The boat house, new aluminum boat with trolling motor and dock completes this perfect cabin retreat. Fishing is a bonus with lots of bass and pan fish to catch! The host is very nice and responsive which is a big plus. We all can’t wait to schedule our next trip. Thank you for sharing your property with us. It is truly a treasure.

Solitude

Hemingway’s Hideout, you drive up the block long driveway opening up to a huge Red log home on over 100 private acres of wilderness. If that was it, I would go!! The home 🏠 is absolutely awesome made to feel like a spa. Plenty of space for kids who will love this place. And Adult features such as the upstairs bedrooms with skylights full bathroom, claw tub and awesome shower. In the evening you will find yourself nightly on the 10-15 deck off the second floor bedrooms. You grab your favorite libations. You’re so far from city lights that when you look up you’ll think Rembrandt himself painted it just for you. I’m a fisherman and I’ll say this, off the dock, 5 trophy size Large mouth bass and a bunch of small ones. 3, 5lb northerns and as far as sunnies and crappies we stopped counting at a Million 😆👍 your view to the far shorelines is Northern Pines and river birch. One last thing, on your last day, the discussion about coming back next year and possibly booking something in the winter. My wife was up this past winter, which she hates! She said it was magical like a Hallmark card. This place is one of a kind❤️

Great week with family in the woods

The property is huge and very private, and on a nice quiet little lake. This was our second stay at this cabin and we'll come back again. Family joined us from out of state and loved it as well. The house is as described, and as long as you remember you're in the woods, there are no surprises. Everybody loved the canoe and kayaks, fishing off the dock was a blast, and we used the grill and the fire pit every day. And a little afternoon nap or reading on the porches made it extra relaxing!

Fathers Day 2023

I/we loved this property and location. Close enough to the Twin Cities that you didnt ruin/waste 2 Days traveling. The location of the Cabin relative to others on the lake was perfect and private. 15 miles to the nearest town was great. Far enough to encourage you to make due with what you have (camping/cabin life) but always knowing you could run into Town if you needed to. The property and cabin was Amazing. Common Areas for eating or playing board games or porches to get away without being gone.

Grounds/location great! Cabin very dirty!!!!!

This property has a lot of potential. The grounds, access to lake, kayaks & row boat are a real plus. The cabin’s history is charming. Sadly, it was not cleaned prior to our arrival. There were spider webs, dead bugs everywhere & mouse dropping on the kitchen counter every morning. Trapped a mouse. Towels were worn. Dirty sheets on bed. Refrigerator leaked so floor wet. Hot H2O challenging. Shower head bad. We had to vacuum the floor and window sills right away. By far the dirtiest rental I’ve stayed at.

Relaxing, perfect get away!

We loved this property! The cabin had so much character and neat rooms. It was so easy to make ourselves at home and relax. We loved being on the dock and the outside buildings also! The property owner is knowledgeable and very helpful with questions during your stay. We highly recommend!!

Serene Cabin Retreat

What a special place! If you are looking to escape and have that North Woods experience, this quiet cabin is on a peaceful lake surrounded by wilderness. We kayaked almost every night and the fishing was pretty good too. There's a nice spot for campfires and outdoor seating. The bugs were pretty bad but that comes with the woodland experience. If you have to work remotely as we did, the internet was strong and reliable. The cell signal is weaker but manageable.

Absolutely Wonderful!

Rent this cabin! Wilderness Acres is an absolutely wonderful spot to escape from the world and enter a total state of relaxation. My husband and I just spent 9 great days there and had a marvelous time. This place is magic - the setting and location (total privacy) - the history (owned by the same family for over 70 years) - the charm of the cabin (be sure to explore the great book selection, antiques, paintings and game selection) and the view just can't be beat. The owner, Robin, was extremely quick in answer questions that we had during our stay and her attention to detail is clear throughout the property. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare all our meals and the extra amenities (canoe and kayaks) were great! I can't recommend this property enough. Robin, thank you so much for sharing this family gem with us - we hope to be back!

Perfect Family Getaway

This property is magical! My husband and 2 boys had a full week at this property and enjoyed every moment! The layout of the home is fantastic if you would like to spend time together or time alone. The lake, kayaks, fishing boat, fishing house, little reading house, and screened in porch are extra bonuses to such a beautiful piece of land! We rested, recharged, and most importantly built memories that will last a lifetime!

Beautiful spot

Property was rustic with many cool and interesting areas on the first floor and a beautiful second level with skylites and a claw foot tub! Peaceful setting with a cool screened in outer area. Lake was quiet with very few boats and we caught fish off the dock. Robin was great to work with and we liked it so much we were able to extend our stay. A perfect spot to get away for a peaceful relaxing getaway!!

Bear lake cabin

We had a fun time. Got a few very small fish off the dock. The only issue was walking around the upstairs lots of creaking of the flooring. The spiral staircase is very loud and rickety Otherwise we had a great time!.

Up North

The old cabin was unique. They do have big ants and tons of mosquitoes. We were very comfy inside and the kitchen has all kinds of things to help with cooking. The kayaks were great, however one did not have a seat in it, so only 3 were usable. The property area was interesting, but the bugs kept us inside a lot.

Secluded beauty in a well-equipped cabin

This place really is secluded! It's a great rustic cabin with all the modern amenities including a full kitchen, two bathrooms, and all the blankets and games you'll need! I brought my dogs who loved swimming and I enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and well stocked supply of split wood (I went in October...it snowed!). I highly recommend if you're looking for a private getaway.

This was a beautiful property for our family to unwind and relax together!

We spent the week over the 4th of July and loved it! The cabin was clean and well stocked with linens, dishes, games, movies, and kayaks. There were charming touches throughout, including the reading porch and bathtub. We grilled almost every night and enjoyed great fishing right from the dock. During the days we explored Isle and Father Hennepin State Park, which has awesome hiking and a fun beach. The town of McGrath put on a wonderful 4th celebration with a parade and fireworks. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing vacation.

Relaxing week in a charming and secluded environment!

My wife and I enjoyed everything about our recent stay at Wilderness Acres, from the cozy and comfortable cabin to the boathouse, playhouse, and screen porch. Being surrounded by the sounds of the woods and the lake was so peaceful, hearing birds and frogs, and standing on the dock while seeing deer splashing in the lake across the bay. The cabin and property had everything we needed, and we enjoyed both the canoe and fishing boat throughout our stay. We caught a lot of fish right off the dock as well! We used the grill and fire pit every day, so we never went out to eat although there are several options within about 15 min. Robin gave us great information ahead of time, and made sure to contact us to let us know some utility people would be on the property. There were no surprises, the bed was great, cabin was clean and well-furnished, plenty of towels, and the kitchen had everything needed. We will definitely be back!

Beautiful secluded property. We loved the lake and spent a good portion of our time out on the boat!

The cabin had all needed supplies furnished. Although secluded, we were able to drive right to it without any trouble. The mosquitoes were definately noticeable, but not as bad out on the water. We were able to have the windows open and enjoy the cool breeze from the many setting areas inside the cozy cabin. The driveway is a winding wooded pathway to the home. Plenty of space to park and turn a boat around. There were many movie/game options for the rainy days too. If you're looking for a quiet get away, this is the place to hear birds singing and frogs in the evenings. Beautiful property!
