As advertised. Great walking trails on-site and bike trail locally in Kinmount. The lake is warm which was very pleasant. Shopping close by. We enjoyed our stay.
Over the last number of years, we have rented many cottages for various occasions, and none matched the experience we had at Alan and Rosalie's log home. The home, the surroundings, the amenities and the overall experience far exceeded our expectations.
First, Alan and Rosalie were the perfect hosts. Alan greeted us upon arrival, gave us the history of the property and told us all that we needed to know to have an excellent stay. He was just a call / text away from any question we had.
Second, the home is absolutely perfect and the pictures don't do it justice. It's absolutely magnificent, from top to bottom, inside and out. The kitchen was fully stocked, the bedrooms were very comfortable and the fireplaces throughout provided a perfect winter vibe.
Finally, this home far exceeded all our expectations and I think this may have been our group's most favorite experience so far. We will definitely be back. Thank you Alan and Rosalie for your hospitality, generosity and kindness.
It was a memorable and enjoyble week in gorgeous cottage with outstanding waterfront (private lake). every single member of our family: my wife, me and boys 18 and 13 years old plus two dogs with no leash enjoed every day of our vacation. So would strongly recommend this property. Owners answered al questions and did everything passable to make our stay comfortable!
This was the perfect place for a family getaway.
We are three couples, so the fact that the cottage has three bedrooms with queen beds, each with an en suite bath, was perfect. Even the water pressure in the showers was great, which I don't think we've had at any other rental cottage. There was plenty of space--both inside and out--to hang out together or get some introvert time.
The trails made for great exercise. The lake is warm, calm, and super private. The kayaks, paddle board, pedal boat, and canoe provided were great options for getting out on the water without getting (too) wet, if for some reason you're into staying dry. We spent a lot of time on the dock, listening to music and throwing toys for the dogs (my chocolate Lab has never been so happy and tired). The beautiful, well maintained gardens lent the place an idyllic atmosphere.
This is the best-equipped kitchen in any cottage we've ever stayed at--important since we all like to cook (and eat!). The barbecue is also in great condition.
Alan was communicative and responsive and super friendly and helpful--he even brought us over a set of chess pieces when we could only find the checkers. I would absolutely recommend the Log House. Incredible, fantastic place for a relaxing getaway. I can't say enough good things about it!
Wonderful week! The couple, cottage owners are very nice, friendly and pleasant. Beautiful water view on a quiet lake. Everything you're looking for is in this cottage. It is well stocked. Highly recommended. We had a great time. We will definitely come back here again.
Our family of 6 (0-86yrs) recently had the pleasure of staying at the Log Home for the weekend. Alan and Rosalie were wonderful hosts and responded quickly to any inquiries we had. The cottage itself is beautiful and spacious with picturesque views. The private lake is an added bonus to the superb scenery. We have rented many cottages between Toronto and Ottawa and this by far is one of our favourites. We really appreciate that the linens/towels are provided and the garbage is taken care of - small details that mean a lot to renters with kids and seniors. We definitely recommend staying here and are already planning our return visit!
Beautiful home surrounded by a little piece of paradise. Our stay at Alan and Rosalie's cabin was such a wonderful experience, the cabin is equipped with all the amenities you need to be comfortable during your stay. The hosts communicate well and make you feel right at home. Thank you for a wonderful stay !!
We could not have been more pleased with our experience at this property.
The pictures don’t do the house justice.
When I saw the fieldstone floor I thought it was going to be very cold but the floor is heated with radiant heat and makes the whole experience so cozy.
We had a fire going every waking hour in the huge two story fireplace.
The cottage is comfortable and very well equipped.
We fed four but it would be easy to feed 8 or more. Lots of prep space and all the right dishes, pots and utensils.
It was very clean and the linens and towels were first rate. The property was magnificent and the trails groomed for easy walking.
A real getaway. We loved it.
The experience with the owner was great.
Thank you!
We cannot say enough goods things about our experience at the Log House. The owners are wonderful people and very responsive -- but we didn't encounter any problems. The house itself and the beautiful acreage is better than the pictures, simply because being in such a place is magical.

Fantastic Place
The property and the house are even better in person than in the photographs. We were met by Alan upon our arrival. He explained the history of the property which is quite interesting. He gave us a walk-through and explained everything we needed to know to enjoy our stay. He is a very nice man and very helpful. He was quick to respond to my questions and seemed very willing to try to accommodate us in any way he could.
The entire house is very clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked with all of the standard equipment as well as having some coffee and tea which is a nice touch. The bedrooms are nicely decorated and comfortable.
We were there in February and hiked the trails on the property which are groomed by snowmobile sufficiently that walking is quite pleasant. The entire property is beautiful and the trails are well marked.
Prior to renting the log house, I had only made three short-term house rentals and, while I was happy with those, each felt like I was renting from a business. The experience was perfunctory, and the properties felt more like hotels. The log house felt like I was renting from a family friend. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet getaway.

Stunning Log Home
LOVED our stay for the weekend! Wish it had been for longer. You name it they had it there for you to use. Beautiful log home, it was designed and thoughtout with all the little perfect and extra touches!
Can't wait to go back!
We were a group of 5 that stayed a long weekend at this cottage. It is a spacious and beautiful property and we won't hesitate to return. Alan was very responsive with our questions and gave a detailed tour of the property that was interesting and helpful. Highly recommend.

Great Place!!!
My gfs and I stayed here for 3 nights and the property was perfect. The cottage is beautiful and has pretty much everything you'll need for your stay. The lake is clean and we loved swimming in it and hanging out on the dock. Would love to book this again for our annual cottage weekend!

Amazing view
Everything was amazing. Only the couch that turns into bed downstairs was really old and uncomfortable. If you sat on it, you would trip over. But other than that it was excellent.

About the host
Hosted by Alan & Rosalie Howard
We are retired teachers with a passion for international teaching. For the time being we are happily living the rural life just outside of the village of Kinmount and run a small business, Private Lake Retreats, offering unique vacation options on this tranquil private lake where our family traces its history for over 100 years.
Why they chose this property
300+ acres A private lake with only four homes 7-8 kms of well maintained walking trails around the lake and through the pristine forest A stunning, comfortable, and distinctive log house, with an old barn foundation providing a unique walled garden
What makes this property unique
This property has been in the family for well over 100 years. The Log House was build by Alan's parents in the late '90s and then purchased by Alan and Rosalie in 2017. We spent the first year gutting the interior, reconfiguring the layout, and updating virtually all aspects of the building to finish it as a very comfortable, elegant home that tells our family stories.
