Just steps aways from one of top-rated beaches on Eleuthera, 'Thereabouts' on Winding Bay, is a lovely, family-friendly vacation rental waiting to welcome you home. With magnificent views in every room, the open, light-filled living area is decorated in an updated Bahamian style with loads of comfort. It features cathedral ceilings, and has sliding doors on either side to allow for cool island breezes. This is a beach house built for people who love the beach, with two large patios, outdoor showers, and plenty of privacy. Wake up to a gorgeous sunrise then spend the day snorkeling, kayaking with sea turtles, exploring the two+mile beach and surrounding Cays or just relaxing in a hammock in our beachside Chickee Hut. You'll be surprised how fast the time goes once you slow down. At night, discover the wonder of watching a panoramic night sky instead of TV. There are no screens (TV's) here ( but, yes, to wifi). What you will find are are plenty of games and puzzles and books. This is your chance to unplug and discover what relaxation really feels like.

Had the best time staying in Winding bay!! First time to the island and this location and home was such a big part of a fantastic experience!! It is a little heaven on earth!! The house was beautiful and very well equipped with everything we needed! Kitchen well equipped to cook and we grilled most days we didn’t eat out!! Loved the beach the paddle boards and tiki hut perfect hangout spot out of the sun!! Highly recommend this home and Elaine was a gracious host answering all our questions before we got there and provided detailed island information which helped maximize our first time island experience!! We can’t wait to go back!!

A home away from home

The house was perfect for our family. The bed rooms are at opposite sides of the house and have their own bathrooms. Lots of privacy There is a pull-out bed too in the living room. We used the couches a couple of nights. There were lots of sheets and pillows. The beach is perfect. We spent a lot of time enjoying it and relaxing. The home owner was responsive and very nice to work with. I'd stay again in a heartbeat! Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

We had another wonderful stay at Thereabouts. Great location, beach and house. The changes in weather, views and colors of the water are absolutely amazing. Our daughter and husband joined us this time, for our second stay in this beautiful spot. They were amazed at the natural beauty and will also be returning. Can’t wait ‘til our next stay!

The house and property were as advertised. It was very peaceful and quiet yet you can get to Rock Sound or Tarpum Bay quickly for a dinner out or for groceries. The beach was amazing and the fishing was good out by the points. I highly recommend this property and my family and I will be back. 5 full stars

This little gem is close to the best fish dock in all of Eleuthera. It is quiet, quaint and just what the doctor ordered. The owners were quick to respond, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful. We can't wait to go back.

Wonderful week at 'Thereabouts' on winding Bay

One cannot find a more comfortable and relaxing house in the Bahamas than this one. We have been to multiple outer islands but find Eleuthera and Winding Bay to be our favorite spot. The house has everything you need and the beach is just footsteps away. The owner was extremely helpful and was quick to answer any questions we had. We highly recommend this wonderful home and look forward to staying here again.

Can’t wait to come back!

We had the best time in Eleuthera and loved staying at Thereabouts. It was a perfect house for our family of five( 3 kids from 9-3). The house had everything we needed to make meals when we weren’t dining out. We loved the secluded location. I think we had one day where we saw other people out on our beach. It was truly a wonderful place to stay and we are already planning our trip back for two weeks the next time we come.

A little bit of paradise

Our stay at Thereabouts was just as we had hoped for. The view from the home and the bedroom was amazing. The grounds were well kept and everything you could need was in the home.We pretty much had the beach to ourselves the whole time. We took the kayaks to Halfsound and had a beautiful day paddling around seeing turtles, fish and did some shelling along a secluded beach.We would like to thank the owner for allowing us to stay at her home as it is truly a little bit of paradise. I ahould also mention that Latoya was of great assistance and a wonderful lady.D&D

Perfect place!

Villa is clean and bright. With the right wind off the Atlantic, you can keep the doors opened, if not, the a/c unit was more than enough. Kitchen was well stocked and the bbq was an added bonus. The villa itself probably has the best beach location on the bay…crystal clear water. Tremendous amount of sea life all around the bay. Thank you Elaine.

Great House, Beach and Island

"There Abouts" provided us with comfort, ocean views and seclusion. The house could not be more perfect to spend ten days in. Coolness of the air conditioning, to the house patio for viewing the open grounds, to the beach structure for private sunning and shade at will. Winding Bay is very protected for swimming and fun.The beach at "There Abouts"also led us to renew our vows of marriage. Thank you, Elaine and LaToya.

Beautiful view, beautiful Clean house!

The house was very clean, every question we had was answered within minutes, the caretaker of the house was phenomenal! The property manger was beyond sweet and so nice to deal with.. the house had such beautiful views, neighbors were not that close, it was like being on winding bay all by yourself, peaceful and beautiful, we’ve never seen the stars that beautiful before! Perfect house, amazing people to deal with!

Just as beautiful as the pictures, and what a lovely and gracious host. Very responsive to our first-time visitor questions, and you could tell how much the owner loves their home and the island, just as we did!! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating, and it started with the amazing host, Elaine.Clean, spacious, and very well-equipped. Even with a little glitch in the A/c, Toya, the manager, was on top of it. She was a hoot, had lots of great suggestions and told us if we needed anything, just "stop by". TSA lost most of our dive equipment and Elaine, the owner, sent someone over to make sure we could use theirs. We were truly taken aback by the fantastic hospitality. It made a huge difference in our overall experience.Thank you, Elaine and Toya, for a memorable family vacation. You are a gem, and so is your home!

Relaxing!

We loved Thereabouts and it is a great place to stay if you want 100 steps to the beach, quiet, and amazing stars at night. While snorkeling right off the beach, we found starfish, turtles, conch, and various fish. The house has everything you need for a relaxing stay. The location is terrific for day trips to places like LightHouse Beach and Governor’s Harbour. The property manager and owner were very accommodating and we highly recommend staying here due to the owner and his kindness. If you want to truly relax, and feel like you are the only people on the island, this is the place.

Perfect Accommodations

The property was exactly what we were hoping for. The layout of this house provided everyone adequate space and spaces to enjoy each other. The outdoor shower and bathroom accesses are great for keeping the sand outside. There were plenty of towels for our family of five, and the convenience of a washer and dryer. The beach cabana provided the perfect place out of the sun to watch the kids play in the water, and stow our things in the shade while paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling, etc. Just a short walk (about 10 minutes SE) along the beach around the bend provided a coral rich spot perfect for spotting tropical fish, and sometimes sea turtles. We will definitely be booking the Thereabouts at Winding Bay in the future!

Our Favorite Vacation

We came to Thereabouts 8 years ago with no kids and this place held a place in our memories that we weren’t sure it could live up to with kids. Somehow, it was more. This time we came with 8 and 10 boys and the chance to disconnect from the world and reconnect with eachother. I cannot explain in words what this place means to my husband and me and now to my 2 boys - they explored the waters with joy and confidence. We spent every night making dinner, playing board games and listening to music. No TV or electronics for a week and time to just relax and be present? Yes, this is the place.

Paradise

Stayed in August 2019. The property and location were exactly what we were looking for. We were looking for unspoiled beautiful beach, nearby snorkeling and fishing and long beach walks. This location was absolutely perfect. Winding Bay and nearby Half Sound are home to sea turtles, fish, rays, and lots of other sea life. Snorkeling off Joseph's Cay was great. We had the beach to ourselves most of the week and, although there are several houses on this stretch of beach, we only saw other people one afternoon for an hour. Proximity to nearby Tarpum Bay, Savannah Sound and Rock Sound for groceries and restaurants was convenient. The layout of the home was great with the bedrooms on opposite sides for privacy and the tiki hut on the beach was great for shade from the sun. We hope to come back soon.

Wonderful quiet location

I traveled with my husband and 7 year old son, and could not have asked for a better house, or beach. We enjoyed swimming, my son learned to snorkel in the calm waters of the bay. The beach is sandy (not rocky) and perfect for young kids. If you want to see fish, head to the "cut" 2 houses over, where there's mangrove, and plenty of fish to see. We also spotted a few baby sharks, 2' long, nothing to be afraid of, and a baby turtle in the mangroves. Also found a large starfish in the beach. We mostly had the beach to ourselves. The owner was very helpful with any questions I had, about the house and the island in general. The house is well cared for and shows great pride of ownership. The kitchen is well equipped with cookware, and misc supplies.

Great Place

The house is as advertised and everything worked. It was the most "stocked" of any VRBO house I've stayed at with items left from former guests to assist us. The only negative is that due to being on the bay there is less wind and thus more bugs. Not in the house but on, and near, the beach. My wife is highly susceptible to bits and itches like crazy. Obviously this is not the fault of the property manager and there is nothing to do about it. Just a heads up. The bay is calm and beautiful and very safe for kids which is the main reason we choose it. The nearby mangrove grove is worth exploring. All in all we will happily be returning.

Lovely

We had a wonderful stay! The home was more than what we needed and well furnished! The view from the master bedroom was amazing. One of the best parts of the trip was using the outdoor shower, which is right outside the bathroom. The property is private, right on the beach. We used the paddle boards to check out the bay, which was really neat! We lost power one evening but used candles, headlamps, grill & gas stove - all was fine! We spent most of our beach time on the Winding Bay beach at the north end, as it had a nice bonefish flat for fishing. (about a 5-10 min drive). We were there before the busy season ramped up, so there weren't a lot of restaurants open, but we had nice meals at Frigate's (in GH), Wild Orchid, One Eleuthera Farm to Table & Davis Marina. The grocery in Rock Sound was great! The place is about an hour from Governor's Harbour airport. Did our car rental through Eleuthera car rental - they were super nice & accommodating. Overall a great trip!

We thoroughly enjoyed our weeklong stay at Thereabouts! For us this was the perfect vacation on gorgeous Winding Bay. The people of Eleuthera are warm and welcoming! I have to start with the communication leading up to our trip with the owner, Elaine. She is the best at answering any questions and concerns almost immediately. Also, is a wealth of information as the lovely home has been in her family since they built it in the 60s. Her local manager, LaToya, is quick to respond with any issues. I would suggest getting WhatsApp as many of the local businesses use this. The home itself, is incredibly well cared for. Clean and very well stocked with anything you need. The screen doors all work perfectly. And WiFi works well. We have been traveling to the Bahamas for over 30 years and this is the best home we have found. The chickee hut on the beach is great for getting out of the sun with still getting to be on beach and view the lovely bay. We enjoyed the included use of the double kayak and the paddle boards. The stars at night are amazing! This is a quiet spot on a quiet beautiful island. The perfect place to relax! Thank you Elaine for sharing your home with us. Next time we will stay much longer!

The house was completely renovated in 2012, all new windows and doors, central air, Kitchen and baths modernized. The house continues to be well maintained as our family tries to spend as much time as we can there. It really is a very special place. I know that you'll agree once you've visited.

Thereabouts is situated on the most desirable section of Winding Bay—one of Eleuthera’s best beaches. The pink sand beach at Thereabouts slopes gently into gin-clear warm water. Thereabouts is one of only a dozen homes on Winding Bay and most of the year, it feels like a private paradise.

What makes this property unique

Thereabouts is a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. In addition to sunbathing and beach--combing, nearby reefs offer amazing snorkeling and Bay fishing year-round. Bone fish are regularly seen and caught in Winding Bay, Bonefish Creek (behind the house) and Half Sound Bay (at the far end of the cut).
