Wonderful getaway!

We went for a weekend late May, and it was wonderful. The property is clean and well maintained. The host, Luke, was friend and informative, the weather was great. Lots of fun water activities provided. Would definitely recommend for families.

Gorgeous view, cute place, the calmest lake

This place is super cozy and charming! The warm wood interior of the cottage makes you feel right at home, and the view of the lake is just incredible. The water's a bit chilly, but it's clear and peaceful, and there’s plenty of space for the family. They’ve got all the fun stuff—canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and even a big stash of board games! We’ve stayed here twice now, and the host is always so thoughtful, checking in before and during the stay and even being flexible with late checkout. We loved it—such a perfect spot to make memories with family. Can’t wait to come back!

Peace, quiet, and the beauty of nature

We enjoyed the most refreshing weekend surrounded by the bush, the lake and the fantastic fall colors. We had everything we needed and more for a family of 6 and our dog. You can tell the owners take pride in their place and they were available if we had any questions. The fire pit was great in the evening, and the views of the lake were awesome especially from the master bedroom. The ensuite bath was also a great amenity. The cottage is very spacious inside and out and we loved having the indoor fireplace to cozy up to. It would be great in the summer with swimming and canoe and paddleboard and the screened porch and gazebo...we will have to come again! The only downsides would be the steep hills in winter if that scares you and the many steps down to the lake (or, rather back up to the cottage) if you are not fit or have knee problems...but the lake views can be enjoyed from the cottage/deck without having to go down. And use caution following the trails in fall as the leaves make the trail/markers very hard to see. We definitely would recommend this place and would come again.

Great for a private, quiet getaway

Luke is an excellent and very responsive host. He gave us lots of good info and advice and responded promptly to questions. Thumbs up for: - spacious with well-equipped kitchen & linen closet - lots of toys, non-motorized watercraft, AV equipment - abundant bird life (loons, heron, kingfisher, hummingbird) Could be improved: - living room lighting quite dim for evening reading - boxspring and structure of double bed creaky and inadequate support for an adult - BBQ needs a good cleaning

A magical weekend getaway

Had this amazing property booked with some friends as a surprise birthday getaway for my partner, and everyone was impressed. The house sits high on a hill facing a gorgeous view of a lake. The house was equipped with everything you will need to spend an amazing weekend with friends. There are also lots of things to do, from BBQ-ing to having an outdoor fire, jumping in the lake, canoeing, hiking, reading, playing lots of games, and of course relaxing on the lower deck close to the beautiful clear water. You wouldn't want to leave if you had the choice! Our host Luke was super helpful and quick to reply if we had any issues or questions about the property. Thank you Luke!

Beautiful place but might need heavier-duty vehicle than Toyota Yaris to get there in winter

We stayed here the weekend of March 11-13. The cottage and the setting are beautiful. The owners were quick to respond to all communications and allowed us a later checkout on Sunday. My only issue was the road in—it’s a private road that isn’t sanded or salted (at least it wasn’t on the weekend we went) with a steep hill to navigate just before reaching the cottage. On March 11, there was a sheet of ice just below the snowy surface and my lightweight Toyota Yaris couldn’t make it up the hill. The car slid down into a snowbank. To their credit, when I called the owners, they arranged for somebody to tow me out and covered the cost. The other members of the party drove up later that night in a Ford Explorer and ended up sliding sideways down the hill. We parked both vehicles at the bottom and lugged our stuff to the cottage, which required several trips up and down the icy slope. If I had known about the hill at the time of booking, I would have looked for a different place. We stayed at this cottage a year and a half earlier in the fall, and the owners said they didn’t say anything about the road at the time of this booking because they assumed we remembered what the road was like (I didn’t; I am one of those people who has trouble remembering what they ate the day before). The week of our planned stay, Luke did ask if my vehicle has four-wheel drive (it doesn’t) and then the morning of March 11, because a delivery van hadn’t been able to make it up the hill the day before, he offered to give us a full refund if we wanted to cancel (but also said in the email that he thought we would be fine, as long as we had some momentum as we started up the hill). My reason for going into detail about this is not to lay any blame; it’s just meant to be a cautionary note for anyone who may be considering staying at the cottage in the winter and who doesn’t have a heavy-duty vehicle. Both of ours did have snow tires, but those weren’t enough. On the other hand, I wouldn’t need any persuading to return in the spring, summer or fall. Like I said at the beginning, it is a lovely cottage in a gorgeous setting (and the fireplace is a definite bonus!).

Terrific all season retreat

A wonderful place to stay. Great location. Conscientious owner. I would have rated it a 4.7 had I been able. A few things needed to be dealt with before renters come but over all a very clean place with lovely views. Access to trails a plus.

Beautiful cottage, friendly host

After staying here, I now know why there are so many positive reviews :) Luke is so welcoming and friendly! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt we were taken care of - check in/check out was seamless, the cottage itself was perfect, clean, and cozy - it overlooked the beautiful Wollaston lake and we enjoyed great views from the large windows. The beds were comfortable, the BBQ/propane was set up outside, we enjoyed the fire pit at night. Canoeing in the lake was also very relaxing. Highly recommended all around and we hope to be back in summer~~

Stay at Cottage

No toilet paper (we had to buy), no soap/shampoo in the washroom for bath, we had to dump garbage/recycle 6 km apart in the town (this was awful and not mentioned in the website), filthy couch, dirty gazebo and BBQ machine. Bed/pillow cover was not fresh (may be washed) but old. Good location, nice view. Good kitchen facilities.

Weekend Getaway

Location was great for what we wanted, a bit further into the woods than anticipated but great for side by side ride. The property is not for the elderly or unattended small children. It has a beautiful grand room with fireplace and lots of space. We had a lovely stay, bedrooms were sufficient, kitchen equipped with everything you need. Owners were easily accessible and very attentive. We would recommend this property!

This is a beautiful cottage in a pristine setting. It is clean, well equipped and everything is in good repair. The owners are friendly, attentive and helpful. They gave us lots of information and were available by text or phone if we had any questions. They are very generous with their property and its many comforts. My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we would not hesitate to return.

About the host

Hosted by Luke

Host profile image
We are a family of three who enjoy the cottage throughout the year. In the winters, we turn the lake into an ice rink and play hockey, have fires at night. In the summer, we swim all day and go for long walks or hikes in the Crown land. It's our home away from home and we occasionally offer it to guests who are looking for a quiet getaway. As we have a child, we have plenty of cottage toys, board games and puzzles for all ages.

Why they chose this property

This is a cottage at the very end of the road with only one other cottage visible from the dock. It's completely private and kids can run around freely. We chose this cottage because it was comfortable enough that you could easily live in it year round but still had the cottage feel without "roughing it" too much. With two 4-piece bathrooms, king size and queen sized beds, we felt very comfortable the instant we met the owners, from whom we bought it.

What makes this property unique

The privacy and space is definitely unique, as is the size of the cottage. Rooms are a decent size and even though it's a "cottage", it's really a home as well that one could easily live in year-round. The large sized trampoline is a fun toy for kids and the lake is a nice size (not too big, not too small) so you can explore with a kayak, canoe. If you have a boat, you can launch it at the public launch site on the lake.
