About this property
Heron House - spacious one bedroom guest apartment in Salmon.
Come and relax in our airy, light-filled space! Newly built in 2023, this spacious one-bedroom guest apartment is comfortably furnished, full of thoughtful touches and amenities, and well-equipped for any length of stay.
It occupies the upper floor of our garage, but is fully separate with its own private entrance. Please note you will need to climb 15 interior stairs to access the apartment. It's on the corner of a quiet residential street, and is easy walking distance to Main Street's restaurants, brewpubs, shops, museum, and bakery, plus the river and wave park.
The open living area has plenty of comfortable seating, including two loveseats and a queen-sized sofa bed. The sofa bed has a new memory foam mattress, and will be ready made up as a bed for you if you will be using it.
The full kitchen is well equipped for cooking and baking, with good quality cookware, plus bakeware and multiple small appliances.
The space is heated and cooled with a mini-split heat pump, with additional heating in the bedroom and bathroom.
The bedroom has a queen bed, plus 2 closets and plenty of dresser space for longer stays. We use only 100% cotton sheets and duvet covers, unscented laundry soap, and environmentally friendly and cruelty free cleaning supplies and shower gel/shampoo.
There are mountain views from every window.
When the weather is warm enough, you'll be able to enjoy an outside seating area under a shade sail at the side of the house, with a small barbecue grill.
Heron House guest apartment is above, but fully separated from our garage/workspace below. The full driveway is available for parking, together with off-street parking adjacent to the driveway. There is plenty of space for RVs and trailers of any size.
It's surrounded by perennial flower beds and vegetable gardens. You may see us coming and going from the garage, working in the gardens or watering. If you're outside using the patio area under the shade sail, we will avoid working in the gardens during that time to give you privacy.
We hope to provide a welcoming, safe space for all adults, but due to the half wall at the top of the stairs our apartment isn't suitable for young children who are mobile, but too young to deal safely with the open stairwell.
We live just down the street and can be quickly available if you have any issues, requests, or concerns. We're always happy to give local recommendations.

About the host
Hosted by Keri Evans
My husband and I immediately fell in love with Salmon and its surrounding wild landscapes, when we first came here as Forest Service volunteers in 1994.
We were welcomed into this great community and were so happy to make it our home. We hike, fish, hunt, gather, garden, ski, snowshoe, float the river, and continue to explore the vast beautiful land we call home. We are happy to share our local knowledge with guests.
In 2023 we had the opportunity to build ourselves a garage a couple of blocks from our cute small house, and expand our garden and orchard space. We built a guest apartment upstairs, to provide a welcoming space for friends and family. When we don't have family or friends visiting, we love to share this space with other visitors too. We named it Heron House, as the blue-gray siding is the color of a heron's plumage. Many herons call the Salmon river home, and we honor these beautiful birds with artwork, both inside the apartment and outside in the gardens.

Why they chose this property
Salmon is a great small town, remote and self-sufficient, friendly and welcoming to tourists but retaining its authenticity as a "real" place to live. The surrounding natural landscapes are full of beauty and wildness, and it's our forever home.
