Our “Haus Katja,” featuring a comfortable and modernly furnished holiday apartment, is located in the farming village of Dunum, right next to the North Sea resort of Esens-Bensersiel on the East Frisian North Sea coast. Here you’ll find the perfect setting for a wonderful holiday in East Frisia.
Our house is located right next to the forest, where you can enjoy beautiful walks undisturbed by the tourist crowds. And we’ll also let you in on the quieter spots along the North Sea.
Around our house, there’s plenty of space for sunbathing, barbecuing in the garden, and for the kids to play.
Dunum is a small farming village located away from the main roads. Nevertheless, you can reach the coast by car in about ten minutes. The hamlets and farms in Dunum are widely scattered. We offer you an unforgettable holiday with games of “Boßel,” barbecue evenings, folk theatre, carriage rides, and group biking and hiking tours.
Dunum is centrally located with excellent transport connections to all tourist destinations in East Frisia. It’s not far to the coast and thus to the tourist and spa facilities, such as the North Sea health resorts of Esens-Bensersiel or Neuharlingersiel. However, you do not have to pay a visitor’s tax here. We only offer this option if the visitor’s card is worth it for you.
According to an old legend, the tomb of the Frisian king Radbod lies beneath Dunum’s “Radbodsberg.” He was the only chieftain to unite all the Frisian tribes and secure a historic victory against the Northmen. Our old 13th-century brick church is also a special attraction.
Around Dunum, you’ll find the authentic East Frisian hedgerow landscape, extensive wetlands with beautiful and fascinating flora and fauna, and a large forest teeming with wildlife.
The East Frisia Hiking Trail runs right through Dunum and offers you the healthiest way to reach the North Sea by bike—whether you’re heading to the coastal and North Sea spa towns or to the dike. We’ve also prepared a biking and hiking map for you, the residents of Dunum. Our location is ideal for walks, bike tours, and all kinds of explorations into the unique and diverse natural landscape of East Frisia. Enjoy an active yet relaxing holiday by the North Sea and make the most of the North Sea’s invigorating climate.
From Dunum, you can easily reach all the many destinations and sights that East Frisia has to offer. Visit the East Frisian islands or, for example, explore beautiful old chieftain’s seats such as Dornum, Greetsiel, or Lütetsburg. You should also “stumble upon” the friendly and cosy towns of East Frisia—for example, Aurich and Jever are just a short distance away. A special and rich artistic treat is the Nannen Museum in Emden, founded by Henri Nannen, the founder of “Stern” magazine.
The North Sea spa town of Esens-Bensersiel, located right nearby, has plenty to offer for sports, relaxation, and recreation—for example, the Langeoog harbour, the beach, the beach portal with the covered play area “Bennis Abenteuerland,” swimming pools, tennis courts, surfing spots along the dike, fitness facilities, beach volleyball, fishing opportunities, and much more. Speaking of swimming pools: While in Bensersiel, don’t miss a visit to the seawater wave pool with its giant slide and the “Sonneninsel” North Sea thermal spa, a modern, heated water park featuring North Sea water, a large indoor slide with a panoramic view, and a state-of-the-art wellness, sauna, and fitness centre! It’s well worth it!
Take day trips and visit numerous old castles and palaces, mills, museums, exhibitions, and other cultural highlights, or explore the diverse wildlife of East Frisia’s geologically unique combination of marsh, geest, and moor.
Also very close by is the North Sea spa town of Neuharlingersiel. Neuharlingersiel is a 300-year-old fishing village with an active fleet of crab boats. In the beautiful historic fishing harbour, East Frisian fishing is still actively practised today by many crab boats. There is a wide range of tourist attractions for your holiday:
A beach with the fantastic “Platschi” water play area, the new, modern “BadeWerk” spa and wellness centre with a seawater indoor pool and sauna facilities, as well as the Kurhaus, Kursaal, an information centre with the “Leuchttürmchen” children’s playhouse, the Sielhof as the “Haus des Gastes,” green
