Took my 15 year old son to the city for a little getaway. We left our car at the Newark Penn station and rode a train into Manhatten. The train stopped at the station at Madison Square Garden and from there it was about a 10 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel is near many subway stations and is about a 7 minute walk to Times Square and 15 minutes to the Empire State Building. Very easy to find a subway and make your way around the city. I saw a couple people complaining about the elevators being slow but we did not have any issues at all. Our room was on the 10th floor and the longest we waited for the elevator was probably 5 minutes if that and that was during the busy afternoon. The check in staff was great. The room is not huge but was perfect for what we needed which was to sleep and shower basically. The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel. The breakfast was a nice option in the morning before heading out into the city. Would definitely stay here again if in the city.
To start I thought this might be a scam because the rate was fairly inexpensive for NYC. But it was legit. That being said you get what you pay for. The lobby is tiny, the breakfast was edible but not enjoyable. The food was the equivalent of soft rubber and taste about the same. We reserved a king bed. We arrived an hour early for our check in and were told the room wasn't ready (which was totally understandable), so we walked to central park and did some sightseeing along the way. Then walked back via 5 avenue. We arrived back at the hotel at 4:30. We were told the king bed room wouldn't be available until at least 6 pm. So they offered us a room with two double beds instead. Sounds great but, be warned, these rooms are tiny. we had next no space to move within the room. My wife got up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and tripped over the desk chair and got banged up pretty good in the fall that followed. Overall it is worth the money if you are only staying a night or two.The valet parking was fine, it is not 75 as we were told up front. It is 80 but 94 after taxes. If you are looking for amenities and comforts of a normal hotel, this should not be your choice.
